It's not even like Logan is always perfect. She breaks out sometimes, like the rest of them, and there are days where she throws her hair up into a shitty ponytail or just wears an old sweatshirt from freshman year, because her hair or outfit didn't look the way she planned it to. It's just that those things don't even break Logan. She's just always striking, always absolutely captivating, even at her most exhausted. Even at her bitchiest, her meanest, her most petty and spiteful, people still find her charming and lovely, giggling at her absolutely 100% serious jabs like she's just joking. People would take anything from Logan: a kick in the teeth, a spit to the face, anything, if it meant Logan was around them. She would never though, and that's the worst bit, the way she always apologizes when she catches herself in a bad mood, always tries to make it up to people. It's sweet, in a tooth-rotting, awful way. Alex hates her, sometimes, she really does.

That's the second issue, really; Alex hates Logan.

I'm wondering if, as a society who cares about vulnerable people, we could stop saying "traumatize" when we truly mean "upset"?

I am sick of hearing sad books or movies "traumatize" their readers. I simply do not believe that happens. A traumatic experience might be adjacent to books (I have vivid memories of books I was reading around certain experiences and even how the contents of those books affected my processing of the experiences). But it's not caused by the book. And, y'know. The weather is Christofascist Censorship Attempts outside.

Meanwhile from the other side I continue to be surprised at just how badly people fail to understand trauma and traumatic experiences in general. Watering down the term isn't helping. Find other hyperbole to express that The Bridge to Terebithia gutted you, chewed on your heartstrings, and made you cry your first pair of contact lenses right out of your preteen eyes.
