A Hittite cuneiform tablet declaring the first surviving recorded peace treaty in history between Ramesses II and Ḫattušili III respectivly rulers of the New Kingdom of Egypt and the empire of the Hittites. The tablet is written in the Hittite language and their cuneiform.

This is one of three known relics of the treaty. Also known as The Treaty of Kadesh.

The Egyptian version of the Egyptian-Hittite peace treaty between Ramesses II and Ḫattušili III. This records the first surviving recorded peace treaty circa 1259 BC.

This is one of three surviving inscriptions of the treaty. Also known as The Treaty of Kadesh.

This inscription is found at the Precinct of Amun-Re in Egypt near the great temple complex of Luxor.

Fragment of the beard of the Great Sphinx

Together with the nearby pyramids, the Great Sphinx at Giza is one of the great symbols of ancient Egypt. It is generally attributed to Khafre, the king who built the second pyramid.

Some pharaohs repaired and renewed already ancient monuments and they duly advertised their sacred work. In the 18th Dynasty, a Prince Thutmose fell asleep in the shadow of the Great Sphinx. It purportedly spoke to him in a dream, promising Egypt’s throne but pleading to be freed of accumulated sands. On taking the throne, Thutmose IV did clear and repair the sphinx. The plaited beard was likely his work.
