So proud of my mother for doing her own research after I sent her that meme. A sign she hung in her car window.

hey, you autistic cutie– remember to do a body scan once in a while.
are you hungry? have you eaten recently?
are you thirsty? maybe drink some water
do you need to stim? (touch, sight, smell, taste, hearing, pressure, vestibular)
are you uncomfortable? is there a light or a texture or a smell that’s bugging you? do what you can to make yourself comfy
if you’re alone, do you need some human (or animal) contact? if you’re with other people, do you need to be alone? you can go to the bathroom if you need a short break but can’t get away
do you have any meds you should take? it’ll only take a minute to go get them if you can
is there something else you wish you were doing, that you could be doing, but you got distracted or hyperfocused? do your best to spend your time in the ways you want to
and remember that you are perfectly you, and that’s all anyone can expect you to be.

Games, computers, fantasy/mythical creatures and races, some animals, and other things that right now I can't name!
i love being autistic because once i love something, i will soak up knowledge about it and become a human encyclopedia on that interest.

I still pick up sticks and think of them as bows or swords in a fantasy world!
As I have grown up, I have never lost the child-like wonder for the world that so many adults grow out of. I love that I can take immense pleasure and joy in the same little things that I could ten, twenty, or even thirty years ago.

I like how my autism gives me a unique perspective. When you see the world from a different angle you’re more likely to bring something to the table which isn’t already there and you might come up with thoughts, ideas and solutions that the people around you haven’t already thought of.

I like how I stop to question the norms that most people just follow and conform to without thinking twice about it.

Breaking news: local autistics looks absolutely stunning while stimming, whether it be flapping their arms, rocking, twirling hair, chewing, bouncing their leg, running, jumping, or any other action

Shoutout to autistic butches! Butches who can’t present how they’d like to because of sensory issues and/or executive dysfunction, butches who are sometimes or always nonverbal, butches who stim, butches who have shutdowns and meltdowns, butches who are dyspraxic and feel awkward in their own bodies, butches whose neurodivergence plays into their sexuality and/or gender identity or complicated the process of discovering them. We’re important and beautiful/handsome and we’re exactly who we’re supposed to be.

so today I had a call for a patient having an asthma attack. me and my partner go, and we’re treating the patient, and her fiancee shows up with her daughter, who had a tooth pulled that morning and isn’t in school. we take the patient to the clinic and I sit out in the hallway with the daughter, who was a bit scared cause her mom wasn’t well. we start talking, about her brothers and her school and her pets and video games and her favourite ice cream that she gets to eat all day because of her tooth. she asked what I was studying, and I told her, and we talked about what I did volunteering as a first responder.
then she says ‘I have autism’ and I look at her and say ‘guess what? I have autism too.’ and she was so excited. we high fived. I told her it was nice to meet another girl with autism, because it was mostly boys. she asked if I had sensitive hearing too. then when her mom came out, attack over thanks to the medication, she told her mom.
then afterwards she told me it was nice to meet me and she gave me a hug. it was great. I’m still so happy. I’m happy that I got to meet that young girl who probably doesn’t know any other autistic women, who probably won’t meet many more. I’m happy that I was able to distract her from worrying about her mom. I’m happy that she gets to see me, going to school and helping people and generally being successful and also autistic. I’m glad that I was able to share that with her, that I wasn’t afraid of other people finding out or realizing that I’m autistic and it’s okay. I’m glad she knows it’s okay too, to be autistic, and to be proud of being autistic.

nice things about being autistic
-hearing tiny beautiful sounds like water droplets and leaves crunching -knowing lots of fun trivia from special interests over the years -brightly colored things that make ur eyes happy -that feeling when someone asks you to tell them about sth you know a lot about and it’s infodump time !!!!!! -the Good Foods™ -when ur logical and rational thinking helps you solve a problem or think of something other people wouldn’t -nice textures are So Nice: cats, very soft blankets, smooth and cold stones, the inside of a brand new sweatshirt
(we could all use some autism positivity. pls reblog and add ur own! it’s ok if they contradict each other or if u don’t relate to all of them; we’re all different)

Shoutout to autistics who experience emotions intensely
To the autistics who cry over “little things”
To the autistics who get so happy they flap and bounce and squee
To the autistics who have to work so hard to control their anger or who can’t
To the autistics who don’t know what they’re feeling but feel it strongly
To the autistics who have panic attacks easily
To the autistics who are “over emotional”, “too sensitive”, “weird”, or “irrational”
You experience the world intensely and the ways you react to that are valid. There’s nothing wrong with reacting to emotions as long as you don’t hurt others. You are not too sensitive or too emotional, you are exactly as you should be and that is valid and that is good.
Live authentically
Live radically
Live autisticly
