Hey! To everyone I know and talk to who live in the European Union - the election for the EU-parliament is coming up. 

The EU today has a stronger political power than ever. At the same time the number of active voters is historically very low and there are indications that it will keep sinking. At the same time, the ultra-nationalists, the extreme right, and the conservatives (fiscally, socially, you name it!) are gaining ground in most parts of Europe. There are many suggestions on the table about selling out our natural resources, allowing GMO-food to be unlabeled, doing more and more datamining and a whole lot of other highly unpleasant things.

The rights, privileges and voices of women, ethnic minorities, LGBT-groups, asylum seekers, internet users, entry-level employees, unemployed persons, environmentally conscious citizens - basically everyone who isn’t an old dude with a heap of money who cares not a shit about anything but their own ass - are under attack.

But we have green parties, very leftist parties, social democrats, social liberals, pirates, classical liberals, feminists and a whole bunch of others in our union.

Some of these are too small to make it into the national parliaments, but not into the EU.

So please, vote. If the big parties of your country annoy you with their slow-moving nothing-happens politics, see if your country allows personal elections and try to find a representative who is active and works for your ideals. Or just vote on one of the established parties that seem halfway decent - every vote which isn’t brown, is a vote against the rise of ultranationalistic homophobic extremest parties.
