niki comes back to your apartment after an argument and try’s his best to comfort you f, semi angst kinda?

Word count - 710

a/n: a very short story just so I could dip my toes in the water. Please enjoy! :)

You were left to wallow in sadness after Niki slammed the door a few hours ago, wanting to get away from the situation. You guys had another petty fight. He accused you of cheating on him when he figured out you went out to lunch with a guy you were friends with from high school. No matter the amount of trust he has for you can stop his jealous thoughts from forming. Moments like these never fail to make you question your relationship with him. Despite these depressing night when he leaves you for hours on end, you can’t help but sympathize with him, always considering his perspective. When you reach to turn off your lamp from your nightstand, to go to sleep, ready to just forget about tonight, you hear a knock on the door.

“Are you still awake?,” Niki asks timidly from behind the door, leaning closely so you could hear him. Instead of turning off your lamp, you go to reach for your phone, checking the time. 2:05 a.m. Surprised that he came back home, you hesitantly get out of bed to open the door for him. Usually, he just stays at Jake’s house and comes back home from work as if nothing happened. Slowly, you unlock the door, not fully opening it, knowing that it’ll hurt to see him after the painful things he said to you earlier.

The inner corner of his eyebrows raise, giving you an emotional look, hating himself for making you feel so belittled. You open the door completely and walk to your bed, signaling him to follow. As soon as you sit on your mattress, he drops to his knees to be eye level with you and his apology starts to flow out of his mouth, “I’m so sorry, I freaked out over something so little, you’ve shown me nothing but love and I shouldn’t dismiss all of that just because you had lunch with some guy,” he says, feeling nothing but regret.

He grabs for your hand and you let him hold it as he starts rubbing his thumb against the back of your hand. Niki looks up at you vulnerably, you use your other hand to cup his face. He leans into your palm, closing his eyes, as he continues to trace circles with his thumb on your other hand. By being with you, Niki realized his love language was indeed physical touch. He catches himself savorony instances like these, never wanting to lose someone like you.

“Baby, let me make it up to you,” he says softly as he starts to climb in bed, taking you along with him. Too tired to protest, you follow his lead, welcoming his willingness to comfort you. He engulfs you in a bear hug and starts to nuzzle his nose in your neck, fully taking you in. The smell of shea butter lotion mixed alongside your honey scented body wash always makes him cuddle you closer wanting to get lost in your enchanting scent.

You start to get comfortable, quietly giggling at his childish antics, “You’ve gotten clingier haven’t you?” He mumbles under his breath in agreement as he continues to rustle in the blankets still looking for a comfortable position to rest in.

“Every time we fight, I always replay it back in my mind. I’ve noticed that I take you for granted and I’m sorry,” he whispers into your chest, too shy to make eye contact with you. You don’t say anything and start to play with his hair. Niki has always had a problem with communicating about his feelings, but tonight he’s shown you that he's willing to try.

He looks up, facing you now, resting his hands around your waist. He leans in timidly, afraid that you’ll reject his advances, but you let him place his lips on yours right away, “Do you think you could forgive me?”

“Always,” you say, smiling at him genuinely, leaning into the crook of his neck, missing his warmth. After all the fights you guys have had, not one could deter you away and ruin the feelings you have for him because at the end of the day, he will prove his undevoted love for you no matter the circumstances.
