when pam was at its height heidi loved laser’s love of blowing this up. she wished she had such a desire and ability to do such this. even after the shift she still appreciates laser’s love of blowing things up for fun.

aside from stella, laser was who who heidi looked up to. she wants to get her back on her side.

“There’s the Laser I’ve missed,” Heidi let out. “You know, the bourgeoisie can always use a lesson.” She winked. “I wouldn’t have objected. Do you recall who you’re talking to?”

Heidi sure had changed. Once upon a time she never would have dreamed she would make such jokes — our were they jokes at that point? Her whole aspect on life changed that night her siblings went missing and the rest of her family was left terrified and unable to do anything. They were stunted and that was a word she would’ve never used for them beforehand.

“Let’s watch the world burn, Las.”

“You know, when you said you ‘wanted to hang’, I almost asked if I needed to bring rope and find a member of the bourgeoise.” Laser joked, humor darker than the gallows. “I did bring some firecrackers though, if you just want to watch the world burn instead.”

“I just lose stuff [in my hair]. Like, I’ll have my hair styled with clips and pins and everything, and I find them for a couple of days. The longest is probably about three days later, and I was like, “What is that,” and it was a pin. Because it gets in all the curls and it just sort of gets caught.”

“No one told me, I found out for myself,” Heidi admitted in a low tone, her high still ever-present. “It makes everything slow down. Your brain, your body — everything. You can totally focus on what’s in front of you without the hassle of outside issues coming to bother you while you try to focus.” Drugs were her escape and gave her a sense of security she otherwise didn’t have. “But I guess if it doesn’t work for you, then hey, good for you.”

Heidi closed her eyes and asked again. “You won’t even lay in the lush grass? I don’t think that would cloud your thinking. Quite the opposite if you think about it.”

“C'mon, now,” Heidi let out. “It’s seeing the world through a different lens. Why wouldn’t you want to see everything differently?” Heidi was so high she didn’t even care if he was a wizard, she just felt good. “Mmm, the grass is so soft.” She ran her hands over the dense grass making a snow man minus the snow. “You should give that a shot at least.”

“so someone told you that looking through a haze is some grand difference in perspective which you naively believed? it isn’t. the truth is that this merely obscures reality from you. it does not expand your mind, it narrows and simplifies it.” xen said point blank, his anger bubbling just beneath the surface as it felt somewhat personal now. who was this to tell him about seeing things differently? “it takes actual mental acuity, not a drug induced bandaid, to change perception and see with unbiased eyes.”

“Too long,” Heidi replied blandly as she was unable to think of something witty to say. “Things really have changed.” She took her beer and chugged so much her throat was obviously moving as she swallowed. She had wanted this to be easy. She knew it wouldn’t be but she had hopes. Maybe once they got through the awkward beginning conversation? “But who needs to talk about that?” she asked trying to take the focus away from begging Indi to not get sucked into a different way.

“What have you been doing? We haven’t talked in too long. Didn’t think that would happen.” Heidi was sad. She didn’t have many people and thought Indi was one of her people. “Not enough has been happening.” And she didn’t just mean with PAM. Her emotions were heightened because of her nerves.

PAM sniper and second in command, Indi and Hiedi respectively, were two members to be reckoned with. So many were before becoming softies. Heidi couldn’t let go of Indi even though her attitude was seeming to have shifted. Indi was friends with Mona which made Heidi’s skin crawl. However, she didn’t want to give up on her. Indi had been a total badass and Hiedi still wanted to still see her that way.

When Indi showed up at the bar Heidi raised her drink at the booth they always sat in. “Make sure you get a drink,” she hollered, wanting a good talk with her friend.

pam was going through a catatonic shift since the murder of their former leader on new year’s eve. mona had a less vindictive mission in mind for the collective, and while indi was skeptical of the more peaceful method, mona had been one of her closest and best friends since they were school girls. not to mention her own resolve on magic had wavered somewhat after scratch’s admissions.

heidi, however, would likely want to double down. she had been the right hand on a path of vengeance. while, they’d always had a good working relationship, indi was skeptical of this conversation too. she ordered a vodka cranberry and took a seat in the booth. “long time, no see.”

"It's okay to be okay with not being there." Heidi reached out to touch the woman's arm. "No one wants to see anything like that." She reached into her own bag of work tricks. "Being an at home hospice nurse I see a lot of things no one should see. It might be why I could be there though it was something ...different."

Thinking about her patients Heidi felt genuine emotion. What she was saying to this woman was true. All of it. Sure Heidi was pleased with an attack on those people but her patients -- had she become hardened because of the work?

"I'm Heidi, by the way."

The way this woman described it all made Rosie think of dragon-pox, and the hospital. She swallowed hard against the memories and the bile rising in her throat. This wasn't about her, and now wasn't the time. Get a hold of yourself, Rose Maddox.

"No deaths is good. That's a nice change." Rosie said, wrapping her arms around her stomach. "I shouldn't be glad I wasn't there, but I am."

“You should never have to reconsider a good smoke followed by a xanax. The two go hand in hand quite loverly,” Said the already stoned Heidi. “This air is delightful.” She smiled, laying in the grass.

xen did not like drugs, nor drinking. he turned up his nose in distaste and pity. “the two pollute your mind, narrow your scope, make you sick.”

“I know you think you want to do that, but I think you should reconsider, mate.”

"It was a sight for sure. It was hard to look away, it was so ...graphic. That whole watching a trainwreck analogy." She pinched her eyes closer together as though in thought. Heidi wasn't lying. It was graphic and the panic was a sight to see: people going here, there and everywhere trying to figure out what had happened.

She put her concerned face on. "I haven't heard of anything major. No deaths anyway." Heidi swallowed hard. "It sounds like it's a good thing you weren't there. It wasn't easy to see."

Rose frowned. There was something about this girl's voice that made her think the surprise hadn't exactly been unpleasant. Maybe she was just reading into things. Her mother always said Rosie looked for reasons to dislike people, or let them down.

"I heard about that, it sounded horrible. Those poor people I hope they're okay."

Although the answer didn’t help her real question Heidi listened. She wasn’t the best at knowing anything that had anything to do with religion and May Day was Pagan. “I didn’t know most of that.” Heidi raised her brow in mild interest. “I’m not a fan of religion but that is interesting.”

She knew plenty of people had siblings but hearing her mention her sister there was an ache in her heart. What happened to Jude and Eloise? Heidi would have given anything to share experiences with all five of her siblings. One day. “Why not share it with your sister?” She said with a bit of confrontation.

“I’m glad you hate flowers and dancing. I can agree with that.” It made Heidi grateful. Maybe this woman could be of use. “I’m Heidi, by the way.”

Heidi had a small on her face since the event ended. Such a great ending to their ideas of fun and innocent. How could they be so idiotic to think they’d be okay. It may not have been PAM — though she wished it was — but someone needed to show power.

She had a small smirk that was barely visible. “What are your thoughts about May Day?” Not caring who she asked.

"May day is typically a festival celebrated for the beginning of summer and falls between the spring equinox and summer solstice. Beyond that, I don’t know much about May day, other than it would be the kind of festival enjoyed by my sister.” Clio hadn’t been back in England for a while. She’d been glad to be taken abroad for a few weeks of work, and overlooked or disregarded by the Deatheaters as helpful when it came to the festival’s grim end but still, she apparently had her uses. “I’m not into flowers and dancing.”

It had been a little time since the attack and Heidi still had no clue who was behind the glorious attack. She wanted to know. She wanted to know who was so brilliant, ruining such a festive day where people expected nothing. She hoped for a sign.

“Any idea who was behind it all? The attack, I mean.” This time she didn’t have a smile. She wanted input and not everyone would be receptive to a smile.

Heidi hadn't been caught. Damn she was good at not getting caught. But Laser wasn't so lucky it seemed. Heidi's head fell. She hated to see one of her own trying to get out of a troubling situation. Not because she judged them (usually) but because they were bonded by their issues with these ...people.

Heidi had to do something. She ran her hands down her brain to perfection and walked up to the person holding Laser and tapped him on the shoulder. "Excuse me, but the out of control frenzy up front needs help from the burly guys." vomit. "Seems this lot is mostly over there. I've got this one." Heidi peered at Laser to let them know she would kick ass if need be.

“You’ve got mixed up with someone else, I swear.” Laser said, hands above their head. Good thing they had all that practice with their American accent. “I’m foreign, is all. I’m American and I’ve only been in town for like, a month.”

stripes. color blocking. not matching but matching. mom jeans. skater shoes. plaid pants. crop tops. belts. the bigger the hair the better. make a statement and an outfit no one would forget.

scrubs. being an in home hospice nurse was a curse wearing scrubs -- and they don't come in her style so pretend they don't exist. they don't fit into her scheme but her career was important enough not to show off the midriff that got her many glances, but unfortunately it was mostly men. she wanted women, thank you very much.

always be yourself, especially when style is the first thing people see.
