This Day in History: D-Day's 80th Anniversary
On this day in 1944, Allied troops land on the beaches of Normandy, France. Today is the 80th anniversary of D-Day! That effort was massive. More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft would eventually participate in the invasion鈥攁nd more than 160,000 Allied soldiers would disembark on French shores.
It was the largest amphibious invasion in history.聽 It was also the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany.

80th Anniversary of the D-Day Operation
On June 6, 1944, American, British, and Canadian forces stormed the 50-mile stretch of coastline in northwest France in the largest seaborne invasion in history.
We honor their sacrifices.
