Alexander Mcqueen: Fall 2001 Ready-to-Wear ‘What a Merry-Go-Round’ Collection

The metal animal skeleton casually draped over an ethereal model's shoulder illustrates McQueen's comfort with dark energy and death's ubiquity. For him, with his personal history of transforming sexual trauma into creative conquest, sexuality and romance were always intermingled with darker psychological forces. He possessed the philosophy that claimed, 'eroticism is assenting to life up to the point of death'. For McQueen, his clothes always mixed seduction with the macabre to become simultaneously titillating and intimidating.
