not me realizing that trevor has the first-gen immigrant issue of not feeling connected to his culture but that has the added difficulty of being mixed and living with white people who aren’t connected to his culture and therefore can’t help him reconnect to it... i think a lot abt how he’d cling to fred for being caribbean even if it’s nowhere near the Same. and how he’d get attached to any representation of guyana he can find even if it’s not specifically related to afro-guyanese culture and im just. im just. starts crying actually

holding his fifth edition player’s guidebook, brian rambles on about something technical, a type of strategy, general gameplay stuff. a slow descent, it started off as nothing more then an absentminded comment, but as he continued– his obvious passion for the subject at hand couldn’t help but shine through. 🌾
it’s not something you see everyday, the usually stoic farmer’s eyes brimming with an almost kiddish excitement, he gestures vaguely, an slight smile blooming, growing. that is, until he catches the other gaze and something clicks, he realizes what he’s doing. 🌾
brian’s words screech to a clumsy halt, with rosy cheeks and the book now held close to his chest, he stammers. “ oh. oh, i’m sorry, i didn’t mean to… um. ” 🌾
as a general rule, artemis doesn’t speak very much. she’s just not very used to it, if she’s being honest, and she likes to absorb as much as she can from the locals before trying her hand at speaking up herself. too often she’s gotten in trouble for referring to things that don’t exist, or using slang that’s considered inappropriate in certain contexts.
that is to say... she isn’t opposed to the farmer rambling to her about a game he likes as she sits patiently and listens. if anything, it’s rich and informative, a far more detailed description that she reckons she’d get anywhere else. for that, at least, she is grateful.
but when brian stops speaking, clutching the book close to his chest, artemis furrows her brow and cocks her head to the side. it seems she’ll have to spare a few words of reassurance here, and she considers them for a moment. “but you... didn’t talk about bards yet...?”

@lawrising sent:  002  :   what   is   something   your   muse   hates  ? ( record thingy ) // listen i looked at harumi's dislikes already but !! id love to see more detail on them perhaps !! /  accepting!
answered here! transcript under the cut:
so good morning, afternoon, evening, whatever time it is when you're listening to this. alina sent: what is something your muse hates for harumi, and she specified, “listen, i looked at harumi’s dislikes already, but i'd love to see more detail on them.” so, um, on my oc about pages, i put down, like, their likes and dislikes. and for harumi, her dislikes are self-importance, cryptids, and surgeons.
so, um, yeah, i, um... so harumi is for my friend’s killing game server. um, so that's going to be kicking off really soon. and i'm really excited. i'm a mod on there so i know some stuff, but i don't know all stuff. and i'm very excited. and so all of these dislikes came from sections of harumi’s application because, like, it was such a thorough application and it really forced me to like, think about what harumi’s going to be like. so, um, now she's like, pretty fleshed out, i think, and i think it's cool for her. um, so her dislikes, right, so self importance, cryptids, and surgeons.
so, self importance ties into her core values, which is, like, one of her big things is that she doesn't really care who does something as long as something gets done. so, for instance, like, if someone, um, like, if someone was in danger, like, if they were having a health crisis, it doesn't matter to harumi who saves them as long as they get saved. so, she doesn't like it when people, like, insist on getting credit for things that they do, um, if it seems to her that they care more about getting credit than they do about the thing being done. um, which is just something that — because she, like, when she does things, she does them without expecting to get any credit for it. she doesn't really, like, it just rubs her the wrong way, i guess, and it makes her feel like people are in it for the wrong reasons, if they're insisting that they get credited for everything that they do. i don’t know how to explain this, because i think she would understand things like artists wanting to get credit and things like that. because, like, you know, obviously for monetary reasons, but this is more of a thing, like... um, harumi, if she were doing something that would, like, paint her as a hero or whatever, she would probably try her best to do it anonymously. because she just doesn't want the focus to be on her versus on whatever it is that she contributed. and that's just something that she cares about a lot. it's, like, one of her values that, you know, it doesn't really matter to her who does whatever it is as long as it's there, because she really highly values progress. um, rather than, like individual accomplishments.
so yeah, she doesn't really like it when it seems like all people are in it for is for their own self image, if that makes sense. she doesn't care so so much when it's other people, but it's something she really, really, really hates if it's herself. um, she's the kind of person who doesn't really pay attention too much to what other people do, and, like, if someone's acting against her values, she won't be like, “i hate you on principle” or whatever. she’d just kind of ignore them. i don't know how else to explain that.
so that's self importance. the next thing is cryptids. so, this comes from a kind of joke that i've made with harumi, where, like, harumi’s really into, like, ghosts, and like, spirit channeling, and all of that sort of stuff. she really likes the supernatural in that sense. and this comes from the fact that she was originally based off of pearl from ace attorney. and a big part of pearl’s thing is that she's a spirit medium. so that's where harumi’s love for spirit channeling and ghosts and all of that stuff comes from. however, she doesn't have, like, a general interest in anything that could be considered supernatural. so, for instance, she doesn't believe in cryptids. um, and it's funny because like she gets so offended when someone implies that since she likes ghosts and finds ghosts very interesting that she'd also be, like, super into bigfoot hunting or whatever. she's like, “how dare you”. like, she gets genuinely offended because of that, because she just — she just doesn't see them as related in the slightest. like, because ghosts aren't just, like, some supernatural thing, quote unquote, to her, they’re something, like, more important and more, i don't know, significant. and so she believes in ghosts, but she doesn't believe in cryptids. and she will get offended if you can't separate them.
um, and then the last thing on this list here is surgeons, and this is tied to her backstory actually. um, and i don't know how much i can get into it, because i don't know how much this might play into the killing game itself, because i don't want to give too much away about her backstory, um, you know, just in case my friend wants to do something with it. so, um, i will say, though, that, like, so harumi’s role is that she's, like, a caretaker, right? so she works in health care and stuff. and, um, surgeons scare her because, on some level, like, things, like, dissection, or, like, surgery, or whatever, get portrayed in like, cartoons or anime or whatever, as being something that, like, creepy scientists do, creepy doctors do. and harumi really doesn't want to be seen as creepy. she really, really doesn't want people to think that she doesn't care about them and that she only cares about, like, i don't know, like, just figuring out how they tick or whatever, she doesn't want them to believe that she doesn't genuinely care about them. so, she's really scared of being seen as someone who's just — like, as much as she values progress, she doesn't want people to see her as someone who like, seeks progress at all costs, right? like, she doesn't want, like, you know, like, she's a nurse, right? so people wouldn't really, like, think of that for her, but since her parents both worked in medicine, she kind of sees it all as vaguely related. and, you know, harumi’s generally interested in, like, health care and stuff. so, you know, and, like, she learned a lot from her parents about medical research and stuff like that. so yeah, there's like, just, yeah, she just has a general dislike of surgeons. and this is like, different from how, like, she dislikes self important people and she'll just ignore them. with surgeons, she, like, actively avoids them. she really doesn't like surgeons. they just scare her and freak her out, she just keeps thinking about, like, franken stein, from soul eater with their glinting glasses and being like, “i'm gonna dissect you” and whatever, she just keeps thinking of that sort of stuff, and it freaks her out. she doesn't want to be near people like that and she's scared of being seen as someone like that.
so yeah, that's um, that — those are her three dislikes on her about page and i'm not gonna go into other things because you know, i have been talking for a little while, but i hope that illuminated some of the stuff that's on her — on her about page and i hope you enjoyed listening to this and i'm excited to record more voice notes for you guys. alright, thank you again, alina for sending it in. and i care about you deeply. yeah, okay. bye.

@lawrising sent:  001  :   what   is   something   your   muse   loves  ? ( record thingy ) // violet bc ... ik she loves things and i must hear abt them  /  accepting!
answered here!! transcript under the cut:
so, this question was asked by alina, and it is: what is something your muse loves, and it's for violet. and they said, “because i know she loves things, and i must hear about them”, which i very much appreciate, because i don't get the chance to talk about violet too much. so i'm always like, “let's go!” um, so thank you for sending this in, alina. and, um, so i actually pulled up violet’s, um, about page to look at what i had written for her likes, and it says forests, the rain, the sound of a river, etc. um, which is so basic, and i'm so happy that it's so basic, because, like, because you're right, violet loves things, but we don't know what they are. i don't think even she really knows what they are. um, and the things that she likes, or that are written there, are all very nature oriented. and that's because that's all violet really knows about herself.
so, something that is important to violet’s character is that — oh my god, i'm so cold, my room is so cold. anyway. sorry. — um,  something that's really important to violet’s character is that she has amnesia, right? and she doesn't remember anything about her life before... just being in the forest, and waking up there, and then knowing that she had to go along with danny, and then just living in his mansion as his maid. and, like, at the same time, still kind of sneaking back to the forest whenever she could because that was where she felt, like, comfortable. and that's where she felt, like, most whole, right? so obviously, she loves the forest and she loves nature. right? but, like, what else does she love?
and this is a really big question for violet when she's trying to figure out what her identity is, um, and, like, who she really is, and what her whole deal is, right? because i — i've mentioned it in, um, a previous ask that was, i believe, also sent by alina, that violet has a lot of trouble, um, knowing if she wants to find out who she is, because she's just so scared that she's going to find out, like, what, like, she's going to recover from missing memories, and she's not gonna like what she sees. right? and at the same time, she feels so fundamentally incomplete without them. so she's like, “i have to get them back. but i also am scared to.” so that's, like, a big thing for her. um, however, i will say, um, violet does like, um... she likes anything that's elegant and beautiful. she really likes the aesthetic of pretty things. and, um, you know, like, yeah, i don't really know where i was going with this, but like, i was thinking about how like in chapter two, um, we get, like, a chapter from her perspective. and it's all about how she's like, going through danny's mansion and just kind of wishing it were more beautiful. like, she's going through and she's just like, there is, like, a phrase where she's like tasting the threadbare carpet through her toes, and she's, like, you know, feeling the banisters that used to be so polished, and now it's worn away. and she's like, “i just wish i lived in a more beautiful mansion.” um, and she feels so strange for that, because she's like, “all i've ever known is that i'm, like, just some random person who woke up in a forest. and here i am wishing i lived in a more beautiful mansion,” right? like, that's — um, and so it's something that's confusing for her, but she's always been drawn to, like, things that connote luxury, right? um, so that's a big thing for her. she really loves luxury and opulence and beautiful things and elegant things, like, she's absolutely the kind of person who would, like, go to watch ballets and operas and whatever. and she doesn't know why she just feels, like, you know, she's suited for those things. another thing that violet genuinely likes to do, she really likes to do things with her hands, right? like, she doesn't like to be idle. sorry, one second. um, yeah, she likes to do things with her hands. and she doesn't like to be idle. so cleaning is actually something she really enjoys. but she'd also — like, i could see her really liking, um, art, like, in general, right? like, i think she'd be really good at painting and especially really good with, like, pottery and stuff like that. so i think she'd really like that and i think, um, she would be able to appreciate art really well too, um, because, like, she's very intelligent and very well spoken, even if she is generally quite quiet.
so yeah, so she likes art. um, she likes opulent things. she likes nature. yeah, um, these are all things that she loves that, like, she never really gets a chance to discover about herself, at least pre the events of the novel. because she's just so obsessed with who she is, quote, unquote, supposed to be, right? like, she's supposed to be danny's maid, and she's supposed to be quiet, and she's supposed to be a servant. right? and she gets so married to that, like, concept and that aesthetic that she purposely limits herself, but it's also because she's so scared to finding out who she is, so she's like, trying to sequester herself into the aesthetic that she feels like she's supposed to have.
but yeah, i also do want to say that, like, this isn't a conventional thing, because like, what does your muse love, but i do want to say that she genuinely loves danny so much. um, she has, like, a troubled relationship with him and it seems like she doesn't really like him that much, but she does. like, she cares about danny so much. and over the course of the novel, she also grows to care about henry and beatrice, like, immensely, she loves all of the other main characters that she's, um, around, like, especially danny, but also, like, henry and beatrice. and what's really interesting about violet is that, like, out of the four main characters, she's the most, like, how do i say this, like, she's the most unattached because she comes from nowhere, like, she didn't grow up with all of them. she doesn't know who she is. she's just like, some random maid. and she didn't really have strong bonds with any of them. like, even danny at first. she just felt like, indebted to him out of, like, a weird white saviour complex thing, right? and then she grows through really, really, really genuinely care about him and love him and want the best for him, um, which is so sweet for her. i care about that so much. but yeah, like... um... yeah, i think that's about — i mean, that's not about it. she, she grows to love a lot of things. um, but you know, these are just kind of some of the things that she loves. and i think she's just so sweet. i think she's everything. that's just my opinion. so thank you for sending this in. this is a little bit shorter than the other ones that i have done but not that much shorter, so i think it's fine. and thank you for sending it in again. and i hope that you enjoyed listening to it. and i will talk to you in the next voice note!

@lawrising sent:  004  :   talk   about   your   character’s   positive   traits  . ( record thingy ) // for the villain himself, danny!!   /  accepting!
answered here! transcript under the cut:
so this question was sent in by alina and it is talk about your pos — you know, um, sometimes i just wonder about myself — talk about your positive traits. well, i'm very cute. i'm so charming and i'm intellig — okay, okay, um. [laughs] so thank you, alina, first of all, for sending, um, all of these questions in to my ocs because i really like talking about them and i really like being able to discover more about them through the voice notes. anyway, i'm going to try and read the question again. um, it is talk about your character’s positive traits and it's for danny.
um, so this one is fun. because, you know, um, as alina has mentioned in the ask itself, danny is the villain of the novel, um, at least for a grand majority of it. um, which is cool, because he actually travels with the party, so it's kind of like a he's not a villain, like he's on the other side of the world and you have to meet him there. it's more like he's a villain because he's constantly causing unrest within the group itself. and i think, yeah, i don't know. like, i — i just really like his dynamic and his role in the story and i really like him as a character. obviously, like, because he's my character. and like, i, like, it's so weird to me that people like, you know, like, and dislike certain characters of mine, because i literally love them all so much, no matter how awful they are.
um, but anyway, so his positive traits. so, it's pretty easy to come up with a list of negative traits for him because he's the villain, right? but he's also like, got positive traits. so like, for one thing, he's really charming, even when he's being mean, he's really, really charming. and one of the ways that this is illustrated is like, especially through his relationship with beatrice, like, beatrice isn't really a pushover. like she kind of is, but she kind of isn't, but like, beatrice actually trusts danny. and that's important, because, like, there are people that beatrice, um, like, kind of is a pushover towards, but she doesn't like them. she doesn't trust them, right? like, um, so, there are people that beatrice has in her life that are mean to her, and she doesn't forgive them, like, she tolerates them. but she doesn't go to them. she doesn't trust them. whereas with danny, like, he has hurt her in the past, but she's forgiven him. and she now trusts him, like, so much, even though trusting him is something that henry is against, like, he hates danny so much, right?
so there's a reason for that. and it's because, well, first of all, danny is very charming. but he's also really good at making you feel listened to. right? like, when you talk to him, he isn't dismissive, he's very attentive when you speak to him. he knows how to say the right thing when he wants to say the right thing. like, i know he's a mean person to henry. and that's mostly because he's given up on henry ever liking him ever again. and he's more nettling henry so that he'll get attention, right? like, he's like, “if it's between being hated, and being ignored, i'd rather be hated.” but he's not, like, a mean person to other people. like, he's clueless and insensitive, um, sometimes, but like, when he understands that there is, i don't know, that some sensitivity is required, he's actually quite good at being sensitive, um, especially when he cares about that other person. so, um, i could say that his sensitivity is another one of his positive traits, because, like, i don't like to say that sensitivity is a bad thing. um, like, it can be very difficult for the person involved with the sensitivity, right? like, sensitive people have got it rough. um, and a lot of people don't really get sensitive people and find them difficult to be around, etc, etc. um, and at the same time, like, danny's an incredibly sensitive person, and because of that, he understands people who are hurt, like, so much more than people who are less inherently sensitive. so that's also another reason why he and beatrice get along really well.
um, and yeah, other stuff. so danny is charming. he's a good listener. he can make you feel appreciated. he understands people who are hurt. uh, what else? i do want to say that danny isn't booksmart necessarily, he used to be, i used to have him be booksmart. and then i was just kind of like, “no, what if he was, like, illiterate, heart emoji?” um, but, no, um, he's not illiterate, he can read, but, i mean, he just doesn't like to read. he is very, very dedicated. which is interesting, because it's, like, he dedicates himself to a lot, but it's all motivated by spite, which is, like, different from other characters who are dedicated. um, but the fact of the matter is, danny is quite dedicated. um, oh, you know what, he's actually really good with kids. i, um, forgot to mention this. um... sorry, i heard a sound outside and i was like, “what ha — what happened — ” and i lost my train of thought. um, he's really good with kids, and you can see it when he's interacting with bethany’s, um, little brother. his name is gavin. um, and gavin is like this huge, huge chatterbox. right? like, he talks so much. and everyone's like, “okay, shut up, gavin.” right? but danny is very much like, “okay, little mr. exposition,” right? and he, like, he's very gregarious, and, um, you know, so he's good with kids, right? like, kids really like him because he's tall and he's funny. and, you know.
um, so yeah. danny does have good traits. and, like, i feel like if he were a terrible human being, like, fundamentally, henry wouldn't hate him as much. but because, like, he isn't a terrible human being fundamentally, like, he does have good traits, and people do like him and people do trust him. that's what gets him. because he's like, “danny's a terrible person, but you all don't see it.” so, but, you know, really, it's more that henry is really wrapped up in his grudges against danny. and, like, of course, danny has learning to do, right? like, he's not, like, a terrible person, but he's also not the greatest person either. so, he has learning to do, everyone has learning to do, even for an amazing person. but yeah, like, i do feel like it's pertinent to mention that he does have both positive and negative traits. and like, people like him, you know, like, they really and truly do. and there's a reason why they like him, it’s because he makes them feel, like, comfortable and safe. and, like, he's funny, and he's interesting to be around and he's sensitive and, like, you know, there's just all this stuff that, like, he's got going for him.
um, and he's also like, influential, which i think is really cool because, like, nobody else in the main, uh, group of henry and company have ties to, like, their neighbour town, which is like, the town of, like, it's like very, um, science and religion focused. um, but danny has kind of a hand in there. um, anyway, that's, that's kind of besides the point, i find danny's, like, connection to phoenixville, really interesting. and it does a lot for his character, i think. but i'm not going to talk about that here because it's not really a positive trait. but yeah, i just think danny's really interesting. and i'm really happy that i got to talk about him because i care about him so much, and so deeply. so thank you again, for sending this in.

Absolutely a sucker for the “ARE YOU HURT” once over. The wandering hands, frantically checking for blood or pain just SOMETHING. ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED of what they might find while searching. The panicked look on the face of the person doing the checking, the glossy, confused “I’m fine” from the person being checked. HOO BOY just inject that shit right into my veins
