so there seems to be a big theory going on right now that Stolas's lullaby to Via is an indication that either he expects to die or that we as the audience should expect him to die at some point in the series.

I think that this theory is making the lyrics too literal and misses the point of the lullaby entirely.

firstly. Let's start with Stolas's emotional state in the flashback scene and then compare it to how he is in the present day.

In the flashback, he is clearly very sad and lonely. His relationship with Stella is already (or always has been) cold and unfeeling. (Admittedly they are both tired and it's late but the loneliness is still very evident.)

The only happiness he has is what he shares with Octavia. And he is clearly the only one really raising her, as all her little stick figure art only features him, never Stella.

He truly believes that his life is already ending and that his daughter is the last adventure he will get to embark on.

No battles with Heaven. No romance. Just the slow death of the universe.

Now let's jump to the present day.

He's dealing with the family drama of Stella yelling at him for the affair, but he doesn't seem all that fazed. He doesn't fight back exactly, but he does not let her screaming ruin his mood.

Once she's stormed out of the room, he's actually quite cheerful and trying to get the day off to a better start.

Then at Loo Loo Land he is legitimately having a good time. Trying to cheer up Octavia, yes, but also very much enjoying himself.

This looks nothing like the lonely man we see at the beginning of the episode.

So that begs the question. What changed?

The answer is simple: Blitzo came into his life.

I wrote in another post about how it is very likely that Blitzo may be Stolas's first real adult love. Since it is very likely that his marriage was arranged.

This is why he's so bad at appropriate boundaries with him. And why he wanted to spend the day with both him and Octavia. He wants to be with the two people who make him happiest together at the same time.

The point of the lullaby in my opinion was to give us an insight into what life was like for Stolas before the series began. How miserable he was until a certain ridiculous imp came into his life and made him realize (unintentionally) that a relationship built on romance and sexuality is very much real.

Now stolas still has a lot to learn. And of course he can't rely on blitzo for all emotional needs.

But he's no longer resigned to a life where the best days are behind him. Instead his life is suddenly full of possibilities and he wants to explore them.

That is, to me anyway, a really hopeful message about this character. And I hope as the series progresses that his and blitzo's relationship develops into something long lasting and precious.

Finally got around to see helluva boss ep 2 and as much as I adore it exploring deep into stolas' relationship and the pretty colors, my real attention had to go to this bitch
