How the mighty have fallen. In MotoGP over the last 40 years, a Honda or Yamaha has won 35 championships. With the exception of Casey Stoner in 2007, they were all consecutive. It's 2024, and Ducati is now unrivaled, taking the last four championships with ease. This year it's been the exception to see a Japanese manufacturer in the points scoring positions. Honda being the worst, the FACTORY team has scored a total of 15 points thus far, and all of them were scored by Mir. What has happened to the dominance of Honda and Yamaha? Is it bureaucratic engineering? Are they not taking risks that could put them back in the front because it's a risk? Ducati brought the now standard aero, the ride height devices, wings on the tail sections, and a host of other design innovations that have become standard in the sport, which is why they dominate the grid with eight entries. Yamahas new engine that was tested in Jerez earlier this year was, putting it lightly, a flop. Ducati previously had issue with corner entry and holding corner speed, but now have the advantage around the entire track and the biggest advantage on corner exit/straight line speed because of the raw horsepower getting to the ground. If the other manufacturers can't catch up, we're most likely going to have to change the name of MotoGP to the Ducati cup.
