Some brothers ~

H: Madara helped me... but the cake burned a little.
T: It's no big deal. We will cut off the burnt parts.

All things considered, Madara's constant endeavour to become the strongest there ever was was sorta admirable even if he failed.
Hashirama always had the upper hand during the war.
Madara killed someone to awaken Mangeykou. He was still inferior to Hashirama and even Tobirama.
He took his brother's eyes to get Eternal Mangeykou Sharingan. Still got his ass beat by Hashirama.

"The only one who can fight on equal grounds with me is you." Said EMS Madara seriously
Hashirama's expression sums it up: "You big buffoon, you still haven't realised you're no match for me?" is what Hashirama must be thinking.
Hashirama constantly holding back really fed Madara's delusions.
Then Madara went and got a bomb (Kurama) and still Hashirama destroyed him.
And when Uchiha's genes failed him, Madara stole Hashirama's power to become stronger (the irony) and finally achieved godhood and finally surpassed Hashirama....for a few hours.
Then he got his ass beat by a plant.
Madara is the original loser.

Do you think the obsession of Madara for Hashirama drift only for its power?
Going to assume that “drift” was a weird auto-correct issue and its meant to be “is” (otherwise I don’t understand what you’re asking), so this may not be the answer you want, but:
Not at all. Madara loved Hashirama enough to awaken his sharingan for him LONG before he began seeing Hashirama’s prowess in battle. It was clear that neither had ever met the other on the battlefield at that point, so even if somewhere between their first meeting (where it was obvious that Madara liked him even then) and their parting as children, Hashirama showed Madara his mokuton…. eh that’s really no indication of how powerful he was. That said, when we saw them fighting as teens, neither were using ninjutsu. Where and when Hashirama started using his mokuton is an unknown, but it’s safe to say that it had no real impact on Madara’s love for him for a LONG time.
I think the power obsession is really just an excuse. As Madara fell farther and farther into darkness, yes he became more interested in power than in people, but I get the impression that for a long time, he was just hiding behind the power interest to protect his own emotions. If he could just tell himself that he admired his strength and wanted it for himself, he didn’t have to think about the complexity of his feelings towards the other man.
As he pointed out, power is a concrete thing. It’s an easy thing to focus on, and as he also claimed, it’s more real/important than emotional things. Given his behavior as a child, this was an attitude that he likely forced himself into. He taught himself to be this way. And everything points towards to him teaching this to himself through his feelings towards Hashirama, which he rejected and objectified in an attempt to make them easier to live with.
I don’t think I’ve ever actually gotten this ask before.
