Eep! So happy to maintain relationships with so many sweet friends! I’ve been chatting with students all day through various mediums and it just reminds me how lucky I am to be surrounded by so many awesome, kind young people! The top three pictures are from three different graduated students and the bottom three are one conversation from one of the boys from my homeroom that is graduating soon. The picture in the middle is just me feeling myself shortly after midnight lol. I hope everybody’s 2019 is filled with lots of luck and joy!
여러분 새해보다 많이 많~이 받으세요! 2019에서 행복하길 바랍니다~ 🥰💜🐷🎉

Hi I’m obsessed with this song and you should be too. Other songs on my walking to/from campus playlist are here: English (X) (X) (X) Kpop: (X) (X) (X) (X) (X) Also, yes, I do realize that lots of these songs have been out for a while... I’m just late to things...

Hi the picture on the left was taken almost six(!!!) years ago when I came to NYU for a dance competition and the picture on the right was taken yesterday when I was lost and wandering around NYU’s campus. Life is crazy sometimes.

Teacher I have not made the message in many months but I am not reluctant for you! I LOVE you and MISS you very much. Please come to visit the high school before we graduate. Thank you LOVE.
A kakao message I woke up to from a former student who I have 100% of the time for. I have no doubt this was written by committee by boys from my former homeroom class. Bless my sweet little hellions.

First two weeks of grad school at NYU:
Positives: My professors are brilliant and have had awesome careers in the international education field; my apartment is awesome and my neighborhood is awesome and my roommate (who was my roommate for 3 years in undergrad) is still awesome; my classes are really stimulating and interesting; there are always fun, interesting, new things to see in NYC; my school seems really supportive of individual success and wanting to connect students with opportunities; I’m slowly but surely learning how to navigate the area.
Negatives: I’m have to re-learn how to be a student; the amount of reading and work required is taking some adjustment and I’ve been really bad about not being able to focus and pay attention the way I need to; I’m busy so I don’t have time to explore outside of my little bubble and revel in being in a big city; I need to get back in the habit of cooking for myself and not spending money on food all the time; The people in my classes are all super cool and have had amazing experiences and they’re kinda intimidating and sometimes I leave class feeling small and realizing how far I still need to come.
But! I feel like as long as I keep my head down and keep doing the things I need to do it’ll lead to somewhere awesome. The hard things will get better and the good things will stay good. For now though, I have 400+ pages of reading to take notes on, a policy memo, a critical reading response, a response journal, and class reflections due so I’m off to work on that~

Jung(정)…It’s the feeling you have when you meet someone for the first time, but remember them, as though from a past life, and it’s the thing that bunches up in your throat, day by day, so that when it disappears, it takes something of yourself. It’s the thing that makes you hold on when you should let go. Koreans often say that love is tragic, but jung is lethal.

I’m not crying! You’re crying It’s so rewarding to know that the relationships I built as a teacher are still strong even though I’m not at teacher at CWHS anymore :( The time I spent with my students is so precious to me and I hope I’m able to stay in touch with these friends for a long time!

I think this video is super interesting! My former high school always sends students to Seoul University (last year we had 9? students). Hearing the perspectives of the ‘top students in Korea’ is worth a watch!

Spent a good 30 mins talking with a student that's gonna take the suneng in a few weeks. This message absolutely tugged at my heartstrings and made me really miss teaching at my school! I've known him since he was in middle school and he's such a bright, friendly young person. He lived in the same apt building as me and we'd often end up walking to school together. Lucky to have to many sweet people in my life!

My heart is simultaneously really heavy and really light today as I wish my students good luck on the remaining 50 days of studying for their big test. I wish I could be there to see them in person but it’s been so nice to hear from them over emails and facebook messages. I love them so much and I hope they know how proud of them I am! Good luck to everyone taking the 2017 수능!
