alright you beautiful people it's time for a longform Bethan Special Interest Ramble Moment because I need a sec to yap and process Aqours' finale live, and I thought tumblr would be a better place because my autistic ass is no match for the bluesky character limit, buckle up let's go!!!

I got into Love Live! when in late 2014 and it was already a huge special interest by the time Aqours debuted in 2015. I was a big μ's fan and after having my world shaken by their final live, I initially was skeptical about the franchise introducing new groups but was glad to be able to hold on to Love Live! a little more. KimiKoko released and I was immediately obsessed.

one thing about Aqours was that they came into my life around my GCSE years, a.k.a. two of my worst academic years ever. I hated myself so deeply as a teen, was bullied, struggled with my schoolwork, had some of my first panic attacks, and was all in all messy and a complete wreck. Aqours gave me so much joy amidst everything - I remember watching Love Live! Sunshine!! season 1 as it aired (I worked out how to use LINE LIVE on my crappy lil hudl tablet to watch it live before the english subs came out), waiting all day to see the single music videos drop or hear the full versions of insert songs, camping out on twitter during the First Live to follow what was going on, yapping about all of this to everyone around me even when I had very few IRL friends into Love Live... I loved them so much. the Love Live! franchise as a whole even inspired me to want to be an idol and I even attempted to set up my own school idol group. I unfortunately didn't get far.

as mentioned prior, Aqours' debut wasn't far from my GCSEs and during that time particularly Omoi yo Hitotsu ni Nare was a song that gave me so much strength during exam season. it's still my favourite of theirs. Aqours' journey and story of never giving up and pushing forward through setbacks, both through the characters and their voice actresses, inspired me to do the same.

fast forward to adulthood, and although my special interests have shifted and I haven't been as up to date on the franchise, Aqours' discography is one I return to often. as I started doing drag, I returned to this love once more as a performer, and I feel like my love of the Love Live franchise has channeled into this so much - and I used my drag king persona to achieve my teenage self's dream of being an idol. my plushie of You, my Aqours oshi, was with me almost every practice for the anime drag night I did, and on show day.

so needless to say their final live hit me hard. I was hoping to be able to go to Japan for it but alas, it wasn't possible. watching back the clips and their final speeches earlier has left me with so many feelings as I've been so busy it it didn't fully hit until earlier. I was so comforted by their warmth and energy, and yet so emotional the whole time. above all I'm just full of gratitude for all the joy they've given me, and proud of them for all they've achieved. it's been so hard to put all this into words.

Aqours are a group I'm honoured to have grown up alongside. they're still so close to my heart and I'm so grateful to have followed their journey from the beginning. they'll always be with me in some way, no matter what they do next. maybe one day we'll meet again. maybe one day I'll actually get to see the voice actresses perform in person! no matter what the future holds I'll hold on to all of the memories.
