healing is not always pretty. self care is not always face masks and fancy oils (though there’s nothing wrong with that). for me: self care right now is trauma work, writing, face time therapy, daily talks with myself about the acceptance of my life and my current state, attempting to stay physically healthy and not let my depression and anxiety win, and practicing patience. getting out of shape, and being ok with that. being on my phone all day when i wanted to spend time reading and baking, and being ok with that, and trying again tomorrow. setting loose plans, not meeting them, and being ok with that. losing control, and being ok with that. emotionally isolating (as well as self isolating), because it’s what i need to heal, and not going out of my way to find social connection like others are enjoying, because it’s not what i need. self care for me in this time, is following what i NEED, not what i’ve imagined this time looking like in my head or comparing how productive everyone else is being, and being ok with facing myself in all of my painful, messy and sometimes insufferable struggle with my mind. and, some face masks and fancy oils. this is a time where everything comes to the surface, as we all slow down, and what we normally engage in isn’t as accessible to us anymore. we are now, more than ever, faced with ourselves, and for some, like me, that can be scary. here’s to being kind, struggling, adapting, and doing some real fucking self care. though i’m doing what’s best for me & keeping my distance, i am always here. i hope you’re doing whatever’s best for you. 🖤

“Okay well we don’t need to worry about that right now, let’s just focus on getting these boxes into the house. If we leave them out here, someone is inevitably going to knock them over and you definitely won’t be able to return or use them if they’re all broken”, Lola decided. “Maybe we’ll be able to lift them between the two of us”.

“Yeah definitely need to focus on these right now.” She looked to the boxes. “Yeah, we can do this.”

Adrian continued to smile at her as he nodded his head. “I’m sure I can spare a minute… or an hour helping you out.” he chuckled. “Are we gonna try and find a cabinet in the house that can actually store this?”

“Thanks. I’d try to move them myself but I think I’d end up smashing them and then it really would be a waste of money.” Dolly hummed. “I have no idea. I might just unbox them and see if I can still use them for like... storage? Maybe I can plan a party with them or something? I don’t know.”

“It really does”. There was really no point in arguing that, not after what they had all been through during spring break. “She just really doesn’t seem like herself. She’s always been a bit of a type-A personality, we all know that, but it just seems more intense than usual”.

“I’m in the kitchen”, Emery called when Dolly let herself into the apartment, putting the finishing touches on a small cheese board that he had made for he and Dolly so that they had something to pick at whilst cooking. “It’s really good to see you, do you want anything to drink?”

;; Dolly followed the voice to the kitchen and put her bag on the floor. “I could really do with something alcoholic right now. Whatever you’ve got.”

“i’m sorry, ang-dolly, what am i supposed to do to fix this?” joey asked. he followed her back to the boxes and picked up the next one.

;; “Maybe you’re not meant to fix this.” Dolly told him plainly. “I’ll just stay outside with the other boxes while you move them.”

When Dolly admitted that she was here because she had promised to let him know if things were getting bad, he started to gently run his fingers through her hair in what he hoped was a reassuring manner. It had always comforted him when he was sad or sick, which is why he was trying it with Dolly. “Mina is a smart woman”, Noah said softly. “Whatever is going on, you’re not alone. I’m here for you always and we’re going to work through this together”.

;; “She is.” Dolly pulled back, trying to think how to phrase what she was going to say. “I just... I don’t feel like myself and I don’t know what to do. The island kinda messed with me and I couldn’t sleep so I went back on to the sleeping pills. Then we all went in to lockdown and everything I do is... it’s with people. I couldn’t do the things I loved. I couldn’t be on a stage. I couldn’t plan parties to distract myself. Now things are getting back to normal and it’s like I’m waiting for everything to go back to normal and it isn’t. I keep doing stupid things and I don’t know what to do, Noah.” Her eyes were still holding back tears but very barely.

“if it gets you to leave faster, let’s go.” dolly gave in and walked back outside to where the boxes are.

Just as he was about to get into his car, the male noticed a familiar voice from a far, causing him to turn just to see Dolly. “Imagine drinking out of these.” he said with a small chuckle as he made his way over. “Do you need help?

joey watched as she stubbornly tried to move the box until she seemed to get stuck. he leaned down to place his coffee take out cup on the grass and walked over, picking up the box. “can you get the door for me?”

;; “I don’t need...” Before she could even finish, he’d already picked it up. She let out a frustrated exhale through her nose and went to go and open the door for him. “Just in to the kitchen for now.”

;; Dolly put her hands on either side of the box to get ready to lift and lifted when Lily told her to. She was moving slow as guide so neither of them felt rushed.
