Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker
OKAY EVERYBODY..... It’s time to say goodbye because this is our LAST BLOG. This week we will be talking about the Eumicrotremus orbis, more commonly known as the Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker. These weird creatures have modified pelvic regions that help them stick to things with suction cups.
Nutritional Requirements:
While in the wild, the feed on crustaceans that are slowly moving near them. They also eat worms, and mollusks. These animals are on the ocean floor mixed in with all the mud and sand.
Growth and Development:
Lumpsuckers are incredibly small fish that grow to be about 2.5-7.5cm. Very few exceed this size, but it is very rare. The largest one ever found was about 5 inches long.
Behavior:
These fish like being by themselves in the water, they aren’t usually found in groups. They when they feel threatened, they will either hide in rocks and sand found on the ocean floor, or they will swim in different directions.
Reproduction:
Female lumpsuckers will lay their eggs during the warm months of July-October. The male fish later come along and fertilize the eggs.  The boy fish is responsible for them eggs until they hatch and takes care of them by using their lumpsuckers to attach to rocks and be near them at all times to save the eggs from predators.
Evolutionary Origins:
These crazily named fish come from the waters of the North Atlantic and North pacific oceans. They mostly live off the coast of Iceland.
Habitat:
The Pacific Spiny lumpsucker has many habitats that it can live in. Although, wherever they are, they will use their suction cups to attach to a hard surface such as a rock. They can live on rocky seafloors with some plant life, eelgrass beds, places where algae grows, etc.
Taxonomic Classification:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Actinopterygii
Order: Scorpaeniformes
Family: Cyclopteridae

Jersey Cattle
Tumblr media
Hey everybody! Back again for blog #30! ARE you excited to learn about the Bos taurus, more commonly known as the jersey cattle?!
Taxonomic Classification-  Cows
Jersey cattle are a small breed of dairy cattle. Originally bred in the Channel Island of Jersey, the breed is popular for the high butterfat content of its milk and the lower maintenance costs attending its lower body weight, as well as its genial disposition.
The Jersey breed originated on the Island of Jersey, a small British island in the English Channel off the coast of France. The Jersey is one of the oldest dairy breeds, having been reported by authorities as being purebred for nearly six centuries.
The breed was known in England as early as 1771 and was regarded very favorably because of its milk and butterfat production. At that early date, the cattle of Jersey island were commonly referred to as Alderney cattle although the cattle of this island were later referred to only as Jerseys. Jersey cattle were brought to the United States in the 1850’s.   The Jersey cow is quite small ranging from only 880–1,100 lb The main factor contributing to the popularity of the breed has been their greater economy of production, due to:The ability to carry a larger number of effective milking cows per unit area due to lower body weight, hence lower maintenance requirements, and superior grazing ability.
Tumblr media
High butterfat conditions, 4.84% butterfat and 3.95% protein, and the ability to thrive on locally produced food. Castrated males can be trained into fine oxen which, due to their small size and gentle nature, make them popular with young teamsters. Jersey oxen are not as strong as larger breeds however and are generally out of favor among competitive teamsters.
Dehydration also is common for Jerseys, so producers need to get fluids into newborn calves quickly. This starts with high-quality colostrum, which is a vital component to calf hood growth and development.Colostrum should be harvested clean and fed within two hours of birth.
THE END!

bearded emperor tamarin
The bearded emperor tamarin or scientifically, the Saguinus imperator subgrisescens, is in the Animalia kingdom, Chordataphylum, Mammalia class, Primates order, Callitrichidae family, and Saguinus genus.
Tumblr media
The bearded emperor tamarin is described as a monkey subspecies of the emperor tamarin, distinguished by their drooping white mustache. Their fur is gray and dotted with yellow or brown spots. They have black hands and feet with a long brown tail up to 15 inches (38.1 centimeters) in length. On each limb, they have claws used to climbing trees. They grow up to 10 inches (25.4 centimeters) and weight 1 pound (.45 kilograms). Bearded emperor tamarins are very social and they live in social groups of two to fifteen others, led by the eldest female of the group and followed the other males. When they sense danger, they shriek to warn the others members to defend their territory. Their decline of population is caused by predators such as wild cats, dogs, snakes, and birds and also humans destroying habitats. Bearded emperor tamarins are omnivorous, eating both plants and animals. Their plant dietconsists of fruit, nectar, and tree sap. Their animal diet consists of insects, bird eggs, and small reptiles.
Tumblr media
The bearded emperor tamarin is found in tropical rain forests in Central and South American from southwest Amazon Basin in Brazil, eastern Peru. and northern Bolivia. They are most active during the day, leaping on trees with their social groups and they sleep in the trees during the night.
The bearded emperor tamarin breeds April to July in which the female emits pheromone chemicals, alerting the males. In each group, the two oldest males and two oldest females breed and reproduce. The female’s gestation period lasts between 140 to 145 days, giving birth to two or three young. The whole tamarin group takes care of the young and the males usually carry and groom the babies. The baby tamarin walks at 2 to 5 weeks and eats solid food at 4 to 7 weeks. They become independent at 10 to 18 weeks but they still stay within their group. They are weaned at 15 to 25 weeks and reach sexual maturity at 2 years old.
Fun Fact: The emperor tamarin is said to resemble the facial hair of the last emperor of Germany, Wilhelm II.

Red Panda
Hey everybody!Wow we are already to the last blog before spring break! Time to learn about the Ailurus fulgens, more commonly known as the Red Panda.
This animal is really weirdly named because it has small relation to the giant black and white panda that is thought of at the use of the word “panda”. Red pandas are related to the panda and raccoon but they are classified in their own unique family, which is odd because you would think that it would be in the family of pandas.
Nutritional Requirement:
These animals are actually quite smart. Unlike the giant panda, who eats mostly bamboo that can be found a lot easier, the red panda finds the most nutritious leaves and roots to eat. They also eat fruits and bugs that they find in their habitat.
Growth and Development:
Red Pandas usually take about a year after they’re born to grow to their adult size. They reach sexual maturity about 6 months after that, when they are about 18 months old. Adult Red Pandas usually grow to be about 8-14 pounds and 24 inches long not including the tail which is about 16 inches long.
Tumblr media
Behavior:
Red Pandas are active during the day, but are most active during dawn and dusk. They are awake only 40% of the day. When males and females are enclosed and cannot get away from each other, they get very aggressive. These animals are solitary animals and most of the time like to be by themselves.
Reproduction:
Red Pandas breed with each other in the months January- March. Implantation takes a lot longer than you would think. It takes 90-158 days for implantation to fully process. Once they are born, they won’t reach maturity until they reach 18 months.
Habitat:
Red Pandas live in places in China, Northern Myanmar, etc. They live in rainy forests with high altitude and humidity. Some live in the mountains. They can live in most regions, depending on the food sources.
Tumblr media
Taxonomic Classification:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Mammalia
Family:  Ailuridae

amazon river dolphin
Hey guys! We’re back for blog #17! This week we will be learning about the Inia geoffrensis, or more commonly known as the amazon river dolphin
Taxonomic classification:
kingdom: animalia     phylum: chordata    class: mammalia      order: artiodactyla
family: Iniidae
Tumblr media
Nutritional Requirement:
Their diet primarily consists of fish, and they depend on healthy fish populations for their survival, feasting upon over 50 types of fish. They also consume shellfish, crabs, crustaceans, and even small turtles.
Growth and Development:
In the wild, the average life expectancy of these animals is only 33 months. However, in captivity, they have been recorded to have lived between 10 and 30 years.
Behavior:
The Amazon River Dolphins are social and friendly creatures, living since centuries in the Amazon and its tributaries. Usually seen roaming alone, or in pairs during the mating season, these dolphins would hover in groups of 10 to 15 when there is an abundance of prey. Like most other species, these dolphins sleep with one eye open.
Reproduction:
Courtship and mating foreplay have also been recorded with the male nibbling the female’s fins. However, if the female is not receptive, the male would react aggressive. The frequency of intercourse in a couple is high, and they have been observed to use at least three different sex positions lying head to head, lying head to tail, and contacting the womb at right angles.
Evolutionary origins:
A characteristic that is unique to these dolphins is the presence of stiff hairs on the beak, which are sensory organs aiding them to sense the presence of a prey in the muddy river bottoms. These water mammals have conical teeth in the front portion of their mouths, which is ideal for holding their prey. The molar teeth situated in the rear end of their mouths are shaped ideally for grinding food before they swallow. This is known as ‘heterodont’ dentition.
Habitat:
Botos are generally concentrated below the confluences of the channels. They dwell in the fast flowing, whitewater, clearwater or blackwater rivers of the lowlands. But they are strictly freshwater mammals. They are also found in the lakes, the largest tributaries of the rivers, and seasonally in the flooded rainforests.

Pit bull
Hey guys! Back for blog #16! This week’s will be on the Canis lupus familiaris, more commonly known as a pit bull!
Taxonomic Classification:
Kingdom: Animalia     Phylum: Chordata      Class: Mammalia      Order: Carnivora        Family: Canidae
Tumblr media
Nutritional Requirement:
These dogs are mostly domesticated and could be fed any ordinary dog food. They also eat other meats and whatever else they can get their paws on. They can eat pretty much everything except grapes, chocolate, peanut butter, etc.
Growth and Development:
When pit bulls are born, their size can range from 6 ounces to multiple pounds. When they grow to adult size, they will weigh anywhere from 30-60 pounds. It takes them up to 2 years to grow to their full size.
Behavior:
Pitbulls are known for their very violent and aggressive behavior, but not all of them are this way. Only the dogs that are taught to fight or react this way actually are violent. If they are raised to be social and are trained early on, the dog overcomes the violent instincts.
Reproduction:
Some pit bulls are bred to sell to multiple types of buyers. Breeders look for dogs with desired traits and breed them to make perfect puppies. The gestation period is about 8-10 weeks.
Habitat:
Most pit bulls are domesticated and either live in a shelter or a home. But inevitably, some live in the wild without a home. They are all over most countries, but originally came from the united kingdom and united states.

Kingdom: Anamalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Sarcopterygii
Order: Carnivora
Family: Felidae
Tumblr media
Nutritional Requirements:
Caracal mainly hunt rodents and birds. Since most of the food they eat are covered in fur, they use their claws to take it off so that they can avoiding swallowing lots of fur. They don't do this with birds, because their stomachs ARE tolerate of feathers.
Growth and Development:
The average caracal grows to weigh around 26 pounds. They will get about 2.4 feet long. It will take this organism about 18 months to reach full size and about 1 year to reach sexual maturity.
Behavior:
This organism is mainly nocturnal and solitary. During mating season, you would be able to see the caracals in a habitat together. Like other normal cats, they purr when they're content, growl when upset in any way.
Reproduction:
During mating season, they mate and then the male caracal leaves. The mother caracal gives birth and takes care of the baby. The gestation period rages from 78-81 days.
Habitat:
These cats mainly live in arid and dry areas, but also can live in woodlands and savannas. Some even live in desert areas.

Donkeys can grow to be 5 feet tall and weigh 1,000 pounds. Female donkeys, also known as a jenny, usually reach adulthood at age 2. Male donkeys, also known as a jack, usually reach adulthood at age 3 or 4.
Tumblr media
Behavior:
Donkeys usually live in herds which are social groups lead by a group leader. Donkeys can be very disrespectful and violent if they feel unsafe. These animals have a legitimate reason for their actions, they just don’t understand how to control them.
Reproduction:
Donkeys mate with horses to reproduce horse-donkeys. Donkeys are born with 62 chromosomes. They reproduce 1 baby donkey, also known as a hinny, per birth. These babies stay with their mothers for about 2 years and then live on their own.
Habitat:
Like I said before, donkeys live in herds that have a leader. They are said to come from Africa, but are now mostly domesticated and living with their owner. They live in hot and harsh environments that suit their needs.
