In a heartbeat is an animated short film produced by Esteban Bravo and Beth David in 2017 and the background music of the producer is a famous Spanish composer and pianist. This story concerns a golden copper haired boy, Sherwin has a crush on another boy with dark brown hair, Jonathan. Compared with other animations, anthropomorphism is heavily used to express the process of loving and has a great deal of facial and physical expressions to replaced dialogue.
The story is divided into three parts with two main plot points. At the beginning, it introduces the process of that Sherwin who hides on the tree observes another brown haired boy, but his heart cannot be controlled to beat rapidly and even runs the side of Jonathan, which is plot point one of the film. The Sherwin’s heart is personified his love for another boy. Although he does not want to let other people know it, included Jonathan and he tries to conceal his real mind against the beating heart, the heart attempts firmly to guide the boy to face his love. Metaphor is utilised in this first plot point which shows heart does not be blinded and it represent the direct reaction. This is because people are unable to deceive themselves. Secondly, in this process, the heart gradually loses the boy’s control and even causes physical contact between two boys, such as hold hands. The second plot point is that two boys are disdained by other classmates when the boy’s love is found. In this case, anthropomorphism is used to show the same sex relationship is found by peers when the heart presses close to Jonathan and nevertheless the Sherwin does not say anything to express his love. However, same sex relationship is still discriminated and disdained and therefore, the Sherwin is anxious to drag his heart away from the school and escapes from others’ disdain. Because of this, the heart is broken which means that the expression of love for Jonathan is unsuccessful. Eventually, Jonathan takes a half of broken heart to find Sherwin and they combine two pieces of heart, which means that he accepts Sherwin’s love (the resolution of this story).

In my case, I reference features of the short film, I think anthropomorphism is the most interesting plot and thus my animation concerns Mr. Cloud’s story. Moreover, my experiences will become the main source of the story, particularly it will focus on learning process as a student.
