the   forest   was   a   blur.      branches   whipped   past   his   shoulders,      his   breath   tearing   from   his   lungs   in   ragged   pulls.      boots   skid   over   damp   leaves   and   loose   dirt.         he   moved   like   he   knew   the   woods   better   than   himself   –   all   instinct   and   momentum,   sliding   between   the   trees   with   a   grace   of   something   that   wasn't   quite   human   anymore.      but   it   wasn't   danger   behind   him.      not   really.      it   was   him…         theo.      footsteps,   laughter.      close.      too   close.      he   didn't   know   what   he'd   do   when   he   caught   him.      but   gods,   did   he   want   to   find   out.   

the   hum   under   his   skin   was   erratic.         not   quite   a   warning,   but   a   thrumming.      like   static   down   his   spine,   anticipation   eating   through   him   with   every   heartbeat.      his   wings   twitch   just   beneath   the   surface.      aching   to   break   free,   but   he   keeps   them   tucked.      this   wasn't   about   escape.      not   really.
