I was planning a trip to the river (45 mins away) since the long weekend would give me more spoons but I cancelled since it was supposed to rain all day. But alas no rain so far, sad to have cancelled the trip.

Outside my office are these beautiful roses (app says Rosa Carolina but I haven't verified)
They smell so good! I would love to make syrup or rose water from them but I don't trust that they haven't been sprayed by groundskeeping. Besides I don't think I could get away with picking enough petals without being noticed lol
I never seem to see any hips on these plants though. Do they make landscaping cultivars that don't produce hips like they can produce thornless cultivars of trees that usually have thorns?
I'll have to keep a closer eye as we move into fall

Revisited the pollinator garden, and it looks like the goldenrod is finally starting to bloom. Can't wait to add it to my Assumption bundle.

Signet-style silver ring with a round coin-like copper Gorgon face, a tapered domed band and a flat round top. The apotropaic image of a Gorgon's head was a common protection symbol throughout ancient Greece and the Hellenistic world. This particular image was done in the Attic style, based particularly the Gorgon images found painted in kylix cups from the 4th Century BCE.
Each piece is hand-made to order in my home studio, with unique variations and defects as a result of the fabrication and casting process.
If you would like your ring in a size not listed, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I can accommodate most sizes in most styles.

Our Lady of Herbs
Tumblr media
Recited my first Novena in honor of Our Lady of Herbs in the 9 days leading up to the Assumption of Mary inspired by the Polish Folk Witch's amazing patreon.
In the spirit of the Germanic tradition of "Nine Kinds" or "Neunerlei" I wanted to gather nine herbs for blessing but I all the herbs I wanted weren't yet available.
The goldenrod, central to my Holda/Mary scyrncetism in this land where Elder and Rose aren't nearly as present, wasn't blooming yet, which is odd for August but that's a regional practice, it's not always on an exact time table
I'll try to gather some more throughout this period known as "the Women's Thirties", ending on September 15th. Hopefully this will allow me to bulk up the herbal bundle too.
Tumblr media
Pictured currently is a bit of non-blooming showy goldenrod, evening primrose, purple coneflower, plains coreopsis, woodland sage, lemon bee balm, and false sunflower.
I gathered primarily golden flowers for their association with the sun as Holda's hair is said to be beams of sunlight. After seeing @pagan-stitches post on the Miracle of the Sun, it felt extra appropriate for this practice.
These plants were mostly gathered from a local pollinator garden which was sown and blessed on the Feast of St. Francis. Each plant was propitiated with whispered praise and offerings and called upon for aid.
I prayed during the Novena for Our Lady to answer my petition and to bless the herbs which will be used for protective purposes throughout the darker, colder part of the year we are nearing. I've been going through a lot of anxiety lately with big life changes that I've had difficulty coping with and I turn that weight over to prayer as a bundle of herbs, asking Her to reap my pain and help me better carry my harvest.

"you are not a machine. you are more like a garden. you need different things on different days. a little sun today, a little less water tomorrow. you have fallow and fruitful seasons. it is not a design flaw. it is wiser than perpetual sameness. what does your garden need today?" joy marie clarkson

Slowness.
In a world obsessed with speed, choosing slowness becomes a quiet form of rebellion. To read without skimming, to walk without rushing, to eat without distraction , these are not idle luxuries but practices of restoration. Slowness reconnects us to rhythm, and rhythm reconnects us to meaning.

The spring equinox the day after a blizzard. And it *is* a nice spring day today though half the town is gonna be without power for a week.
Such a tonal whiplash from yesterday but I guess that's life on the plains
