Warm & Cozy

Henry snuggles in close, sighing contently. The comfort of skin on skin, of heat intermingling is tough to beat. Some people think it’s odd that he enjoys such things, seeing his interest in the macabre. But that’s silly! Life and death are darling dualities, each covering for what the other lacks.

Death is change, a new start, and oh so fun to impart! Yet, whether it’s an entire corpse or one of its cute severed appendages, the end result is the same. The outside turns rubbery, sometimes even mushy, muscles still malleable. There’s still thrills to be had at this stage. Poking and prodding through viscera yields some delightful textures, and he can make all the finger puppets he wants when he doesn’t have to worry about them being his own fingers. Finally, they dry and shrivel, edging closer and closer to dust. That isn’t all bad, keeps well in jars and bottles (the dead can’t rot after all, nyahaha) for whatever future hex he plans to perform.

But getting a reaction requires so much work on his part. The necessity of the right enunciation and cadence of chants can be cumbersome, and the clean up of blood and bile even more so.

Life is nicer in that regard. Others initiate and weave their magic. Including him in discussions. Seeking out his company. Helping tend to his wounds. It kindles a strange sort of warmth in him. 

And as the hand entwined with his gives a playful squeeze, Henry can’t help but give a genuine smile back.
