Last Friday, this guy came over. He told us he lost his family and home and he needed a place to crash for a while. Jennie and I weren’t sure. Munch, feeling feeble, hadn't been up for long walks. But today, he surprised me by guiding me down the block to the park. It was beautiful and sunny. I unleashed him and we slowly walked across the grass and leaves, catching up to me, stopping for scritches. I started crying. I started crying because he was looking at me and I knew he was saying goodbye to me. He wanted to have this walk with me more than anything. This afternoon, after four days without eating, I knew it was his time. And we said goodbye last evening. I don't think Jennie and I could have hoped for a better companion through our life of adventures together, weathering the very best and worst life had to throw at us.
