Based on the text messages and emails I talked about in my last post, I’ve organised the characters into 4 different categories by how frequently they appear in these messages.
I was working with thirty-two text messages total, and fifteen emails. Within these, I’ve isolated thirty different characters. You’ll be able to see that some of them seem to be variations on others.
The categories I’ve used are common, where the character appeared more than twenty times total across all messages, uncommon, where it appeared between ten and fifteen times, rare, where it appeared between two and ten times, and unique, where there was only one instance of the character.

Based on my very limited knowledge of linguistics (also Google), I think those ones in the ‘common’ category are likely to be equivalent to our pronouns, conjunctions, determiners and prepositions. The less common characters are then more likely to be nouns or verbs. But that’s about all I’ve got. And because I can’t find any historical or currently-used alphabets or language systems that look like this, I think this is about as far as I’m going to get in terms of deciphering the messages.

I’ve been doing some research on ancient alphabets, and the one that looks most similar to the characters we’ve been seeing is Elder Futhark, a European Rune system used in the 1st Century:
Tumblr media
The characters that have been popping up for us are definitely different to these runes, but I can see similarity between some of the structures, and the angular form of the characters. Here are some of the characters that looks most like these runes
Tumblr media
While there are similarities between the two sets of characters, I’m not convinced that it necessarily constitutes a connection. May well just be a coincidence. If any of you know of any other ancient of modern alphabets or languages that look like the images I’ve been posting please DM me.

So I’ve been getting these really weird texts and emails for the last day or so. Here are a couple of screenshots of how they’re looking on each platform:

As you can see, there’s no sender? I’ve never seen that before. And no idea what those weird characters are either. Is it a language I just haven’t seen before or something like that?
Have any of you had anything similar happen? Or do you recognise the characters? Please message me on here if so. I think it has something to do with the blackout and everything that’s happened since.

Symptoms Masterpost!
Just thought I’d put together a bit of a masterpost of the symptoms I’ve been experiencing since the blackout, as well as those people have reported to me. It looks a little like a Mayo Clinic article but what can you do. I’ve collected a total of 17 symptoms. Please email ([email protected]) or otherwise message me if you have any to add. I’ve divided the symptoms into two categories because that’s just the kind of guy I am. List is below the cut.
Physical Symptoms:
General elevated physical aptitude
Improved eyesight
Improved hearing
Faster running pace
Increased endurance
Increased strength
Greater lung capacity
Reduced exhaustion
Acne reduction
Heightened immunity
Noticeable fading of scars and other blemishes
Improved sexual performance (I’m pretty sure this one was a lie)
Accelerated healing
Intellectual Symptoms:
Accelerated learning of new concepts
Increased calculation speed
Greater ability to focus for long periods of time
Reduction in being ‘stumped’ and having ‘tip-of-the-tongue’ moments
Some people who have been experiencing advanced physical symptoms have spoken to medical professionals and were not given any conclusive information. One person’s GP did think it was a bit weird that they had suddenly and miraculously recovered from the profound hearing loss they had literally been born with...

Activity Sites
I’ve started to compile a list of Activity Sites in the central Sydney area. I’ve also mapped them out and will put the map above the details in case you have a short attention span. Thanks to those who’ve written to me with your evidence too. Please contact me if you know of something not on this list!
People who were close-by these areas during the blackout have since reported that they’ve been experiencing similar symptoms to those I’ve been having. Some have gone to their doctors, and some have gone to the police. In both cases, they’ve been laughed at and/or fobbed off.
The map contains 13 of the central Sydney sites, and I’ve also listed two others that seem to be garnering a lot of attention from the police.
I’ve got to admit, I’m really enjoying this stuff and seriously considering a transfer to a journalism degree.
Anyhoo, here’s the map:
Tumblr media
Sydney Park Smoke Stacks: This site is just around the corner from my place. Immediately following the blackout, there was heavy police and military presence. Since they left there have been multiple sightings of characters written on the walls (I saw these myself), as well as reports of strange lights and sounds (I haven’t seen this yet, and it seems to only occur between 1 and 4am (AEST).
The Rocks: multiple Activity Sites have been reported in quite a concentrated area here. Wondering if this is something to do with historical significance/age of the area.
Barangaroo: This is one of only two reported Activity Sites that aren’t centred to a building. Here, no characters have been present but the park has been closed all week, and people around the area have been reporting similar symptoms to those I’ve been having.
Hyde Park Barracks: This is a funny one. I was told about this by some high school kids who went there on a school excursion the Friday following the blackout. Within an hour of them messaging me, the site had been closed and has remained so. Characters are reported to have been burnt into the walls there, but it doesn’t come up in any pictures or video the kids tried to take.
Vaucluse House: Increased nighttime activity has been seen in the house. Lights going on and off throughout the night. Particularly between 1 and 4 in the morning. Characters have been seen carved into some of the exterior walls. Site has been closed all week.
Macquarie Lighthouse: Heavy police presence here, and the site has been closed.
Leichhardt Town Hall: Characters seen on the side of the building near the bus stop. Strange activity between 1 and 4am inside the building.
Carriageworks: Heavy military presence here. There was a lot of strange noise (crashing and buzzing sounds) reported while the power was off. And the site has been blocked off since.
Coogee Pavilion: Characters can be seen all around the exterior of the building. Police were spotted trying to paint over the markings but they cannot be covered. Since this incident, the site has been blocked off to the public and sheets have been put up to cover the exterior walls.
Taronga Zoo: The zoo has been closed since the blackout with heavy military activity in the surrounding area.
Fort Denison: The island has been completely surrounded by police and military boats. Ferry routes which went close to the site have been completely re-routed to avoid the area.
Queen Victoria Building: This site hasn’t been closed, nor is there much police presence. But particular walls on the lower levels have been covered, and a couple of shops suddenly closed for ‘refurbishments’.
Sydney Town Hall: Again, the site hasn’t been closed. But there is constant police presence in the area. And access to the building is very limited.
St. Mary’s Cathedral: The cathedral and surrounding area have been closed off since the blackout. Increased police and potential military activity has been going on at nighttime.
Ebenezer Church, Ebenezer (not mapped): This site was closed and completely blocked from public access/use after the blackout.
Captain Cook landing site, Kurnell (not mapped): Here, characters were seen burnt into the grass by the Obelisk. It was quickly covered and the site blocked off with police hanging around all the time.

Quick update on the ‘symptoms’ I’ve been experiencing since the blackout.
I’m definitely running faster. Every time I go out for a run, I go further and at a way faster pace.
I can’t use my glasses anymore. They make everything blurry and hurt my head.
I don’t seem to be needing as much sleep as before, I’m quite comfortable on 4-5 hours a night.
My Uni work is easier that it was before, and I can definitely read faster.
I’m still lactose intolerant. I was hoping that would be fixed as well as my short-sightedness but let me tell you!!!
Please pm me if you have anything you’ve been experiencing as well!

So, there’s this place in a park near where I live called the Sydney Park Smoke Stacks. Since the power came back on, there’s been a fair bit of police activity there. I went and tried to ask the police what they’re doing, and they told me they were investigating a cold case from the late 1980s. I’m 100% that is not a thing that happens.
They now won’t let us anywhere near the site, and look like they’re putting up a marquee of some kind to block it all from view.
It all seems a bit weird. I’m wondering if it’s one of these ‘Activity Sites’ people have been talking about.

Alright. I’m coming here before I post about this anywhere else because if there’s anyone who’s going to believe me about this shit, then it’s you guys.
Right now, it’s Thursday afternoon. On Tuesday night at 7:09pm (AEST), the entire Greater Sydney Area completely lost power. I mean all the way from the Eastern coastline out past Forbes and Parkes. And from Newcastle all the way down to Nowra.
Tumblr media
It seems that some places with generators (hospitals etc) were okay. But the central power didn’t come back on until 5:43pm on Wednesday. Not only was this an absurd land area that lost power, but the power cut and came back on at exactly the same time across the entire area.
At the time, I didn’t think all that much of it. It was a bit inconvenient because I had an assignment due the next day and my laptop ran flat, but other than that it was no big deal. The power companies reckoned it was something to do with a fault at the Sydney Central Plant, which I initially bought. But now that I think about it, that doesn’t make much sense. Areas way further out that rely on other plants were affected in an identical way. And they’ve all been really vague with their answers to people’s questions. Not only that, but the police are now investigating at all affected power plants. That doesn’t seem like normal procedure to me.
Now this morning I went for a run. I posted about it on Twitter because at the time I was too high on my own success to really think about it. But I outstripped my previous personal best by a ridiculously long way. That can’t be normal either. And I’m sure my eyesight’s better than it was before.
Maybe I’m just losing it, I’ll try and post again tomorrow.

Soooooo… we’ve had no power for about 3 hours. I have a 3000 word essay due at midnight tomorrow. SOS!!
Maybe this is the oil crisis that post-apocalyptic novelists have been freaking out about for 100 years.
Anyway, have a selfie.
