Am I being too prude to think Jeremiah and Belly having sex changes things? Like one of them will be Belly’s endgame. They’re brothers, it’s a link for life. For her to be back w Conrad after having tons of sex during a 4 year relationship with his brother... That’s weird as fuck. It’s even worse that Jeremiah cheated on her considering they are intimate, a bigger betrayal, so I don’t want jellyfish either. I haven’t seen season 3 so far and if she had sex with both brothers, I won’t at all. That’s pretty messed up for me
Spoilers ahead!!!
I completely understand!! and I don't think that's prudish at all, tbh. we've yet to be told how far Jere and Belly have gone in the show, but it is is implied they are sexually intimate with each other in some shape of form. If you've read the books you know that this is very different from the books, and most people I think have been very annoyed by the change. In the third book, in fact, when Conrad finds out Belly and Jere never went that far with each other, its implied that thats a huge reason why he felt okay confessing his love (one reason anyway). It wasn't too late. It's actually the only thing that makes me think maybe neither jellyfish or bonrad will be endgame. Jenny Han has been setting us up for Conrad Endgame since day 1, but making her and Jere have sex is just a really weird and uncomfortable addition that I do not like, especially if bonrad was the plan from the beginning. In the beginning of s4 Belly states that she's "only been with two people" (Jeremiah and Conrad) and to me, that implies she's had sex with two people, sadly. If we ever do find out, it could be during Jeremiah's bachelor party. in the books, that's where Redbird is drunk and says a lot of Jere's private information around Conrad.

I’d definitely prefer they showed Belly and Jere being intimate enough to make us think they had sex — but ultimately didn’t — rather than the alternative!
I completely agree!! I find it relieving that so many other people also found them having them be sexually active sooooo weird. I was afraid I was being a prude for thinking it but like .... its weird!!!

when people say Conrad is immature for pining after Belly for four years, I just wonder if they've ever experienced love before.
he doesn't PINE for her, first off. its not like he spent all four years dreaming about her - he tried to move on. why else would he have never come to visit???
second, yes he didn't get with other girls for 4 years because yes there was no comparison in his eyes, but also he's damaged. Conrad stopped being with Belly because he was damaged and he was hurting her. he doesn't want to do that to someone again. (in the books too he does try to date, its just also hard when he's still grieving).
third, he tried so hard to find happiness without her but that's also hard when that person was such a huge part of your life AND his brother probably talks about her. I have friendships that have been over for years that I still get sad about and wish we could fix things - did I move on? yes. but that doesn't mean when those friends come up again I don't still remember the good old days and get sad. he LOVED her and LOST her while he was also losing his mom. that's a huge gaping hole that was left in his heart. that's not something you can just get over.
fourth, Conrad has "pined" for Belly for years. before they were together, and after. he distances himself from them BECAUSE he doesn't want to get in the way of Jeremiah and Belly. that is not immaturity. thats MATUREity. Jeremiah, who had liked Belly for like a single summer before her and Conrad got together, pined for her and purposely wedged himself between her and Conrad. THATS immaturity. "pining after his brothers girl is immature" Oh okay so we agree that Jeremiah is immature? Considering he was fully aware of Conrad and Bellys feelings for each other when he pined after and dated Belly?
fifth, I wouldn't say any character in this show is fully mature. they're all young adults, and being in a love triangle with two brothers is naturally an immature thing. but there are things that are more immature and more damaging than others. being in love with someone for years but trying not to make it known so it doesn't hurt anyone else can be seen as immature, but it's also way more mature than anything either Jeremiah or Belly have done combined.
six, love isn't just something you get over. that's the point. if he loved her and then just moved on and stopped loving her in only 4 years, it wouldn't sound very much like love. he loved her as kids, and he loves her now. not to mention it was first love - which is even harder to get over. Belly said herself she still loves Conrad!! a part of her will ALWAYS love him!! she just had an easier time moving on (despite still loving him) bc she was able to villainize him, which is what he wanted so she COULD move on. Conrad knew he just fucked up. and loving someone and knowing you lost them bc you messed up is even harder to move on from because there's no closure.
lastly, Conrad holds in all of his feelings and never once tried to get in between Belly and Jere DESPITE BEING IN LOVE WITH HER, he was going to be the best man to the woman he loves wedding. the ONLY reason he ever tells her his feelings if bc he finds out that Jeremiah is a cheating dirt bag and he suddenly couldn't live with himself if Belly DID marry him. how is that immature??
Jeremiah cheated on her and then proposed to fix it when Belly was emotionally vulnerable and Conrad silently loving her and only getting in the way when he's afraid Jeremiah WILL hurt her is more immature?? make it make sense.
moral of this story, yeah every character is immature. that's kinda the point. it's a coming of age story, they have to GROW as people. but saying Conrad silently loving the woman he dated BEFORE Jeremiah ever dated is more immature than literally anything Jeremiah ever does is wild. crazy work.
#anti jelly#i went on a rant im sorry#but its actually insane#like?????? what?#like whos going to therapy and trying so hard to move on???#and whos marrying his brothers girl without a cent to his name or any plans for supporting her????#the summer i turned pretty#bonrad#conrad fisher

Belly really truly believes Conrad barely loved her and cares nothing for her in that way anymore. she truly doesn't think the breakup even hurt him. she only thinks he was pissed at her for being a brat, because well, she was. she isn't being cruel to him this season. she seriously is just THAT oblivious. every time Conrad talked to Belly he made it very clear he didn't care so she would move on. every time he tried to tell her, something happened like Jeremiah and her KISSING on HIS car. or Jeremiah just being there, purposely wedging himself between them. to Belly he was a jerk who never even cared that much, an ex that just strung her along.
meanwhile, Jeremiah knows. he knows how much he loved her, Conrad told him. and he knows what Conrad looks like when he's in love. be sees all the looks he gives Belly when she's not looking. he knows he never got over her. in s2 finale he tells Conrad that she's still in love with her and Conrad doesn't deny it. THATS why Jeremiah wanted to tell Conrad in private first. THATS why Jeremiah didn't want to ask him to be best man. he knows that Conrad used to be deeply in love with her, and for all he knows still is.
it's not Belly who is cruel this season. It's Jeremiah.

Maybe I’m reading too much into this… But Bonrad’s sex scene explicitly shows the bra being taken of… But in Jellyfish’s scenes, Belly is always wearing a bra, even in bed with him. Is there any chance Jeremiah and Belly didn’t have sex, or is that just wishful thinking?
I've thought the same thing! obviously in the books Belly doesn't have sex with anyone until she gets married, and it was a huge implication that this was the reason why Jeremiah even proposes marriage because Belly wants to wait for marriage. Redbird himself even says it at the bachelor party.
Since Conrad and Belly have sex at Cousins in s2 flashbacks, it changes a lot. Also when Belly finds out about Jere cheating she says "you know I've only been with two people" and Jeremiah says "I know" in a very begrudging way, as if he doesn't know who the other person is, but he has a feelings it's Conrad (since Belly hasn't dated that many ppl before Jere). OR he does know, but man that would be very bold of Belly.
All of this makes me wonder the same thing. It would make more sense even of Jeremiah cheating if it was bc he found out that Belly and Conrad had sex but him and Belly have never gone that far yet. However, I really have a hard time seeing the show show us them being sexually active and then saying "actually no we were just trying to make you think that." I mean I could see it, but I also think they've added that they've had sex to not make it look like Jeremiah is just trying to marry her for sex.
however I too have hopeful thinking, because sleeping with both brothers is just so weird. her body count is literally two brothers total and that's just so weird!!!

I just read someone say that Conrad is Laurel and Belly is Susannah and now I'm in shock. because oh my god.
Conrad IS Laurel. stoic. always does what's right. never shows emotions. tries to stay neutral and level headed. will do ANYTHING for the people they love and WILL fight when the people they love are being mistreated.
Belly IS Susannah. makes choices off her feelings. never considers others but also considers others too much. let's herself being swallowed whole by another person just to avoid change. loves spontaneity and adventure and FUN.
Susannah always said Belly was her special girl, and Laurel always said Conrad was her special guy, but now it all makes sense.
They are each others mothers.
And Jeremiah is his dad.
no wonder Laurel hates Jeremiah and Belly sm. all she sees is Susannah marrying their dad and seeing every mistake be made all over again.
no wonder Conrad and Belly are so compatible. they have the personalities of two friend-soulmates, and now are soulmates in their own way. it was truly destined.

it's really the way Jenny Han gave us the entire plot between two brothers in s1, telling us so early that this was a plot that would continue until the very end of the show.
when Jeremiah tells Conrad, "Congrats on your win today," and Conrad says, "It's not about winning to me. It's about doing what's right." and Jeremiah mockingly says, "Sure."
THIS. this IS Conrad and Jere.
to Jeremiah, it's ALWAYS been about winning, which also means he ALWAYS assumes it's about winning to everyone else too. his inferiority complex makes him feel like everyone is constantly competing with him, especially Conrad, and when he finally guilt tripped Belly into a relationship with him, to him, he won. he never was supportive of them bc to him, it was just Conrad bragging that he won instead of Jere. it was a like a constant reminder to him that he was once again runner up.
to Conrad, he never cared about winning. he gave up so many things FOR Jeremiah, like football for one. though he does say in the books that he gives up football bc he knew his dad wanted him to do it, its also implied that he gave it up so Jeremiah could play and not feel like he was constantly not good enough. yes Conrad was naturally good at things, but not bc he wanted to win, but bc he always just wanted to do everything right. he mastered every sport, be mastered guitar, he mastered so many things bc he never wanted to do things half baked. and when it came to Belly, he gave her up bc to him, it was what was RIGHT. she deserved someone who could be there emotionally and he couldn't yet. and he knew (thought) Jere could. besides, Susannah made him promise to take care of Jeremiah, and stealing his girl isn't the right thing to do.
Jeremiah is always just living life trying to compete against this image of his brother that he has created thanks to his dad, which is turns makes him more and more like his dad.
Conrad is always living his life trying to be anything but his dad. he would do anything to not seem even remotely like him. because his dad is the very opposite of whats right in this world, and he wants no part of it.

I'm actually so curious if they'll show us Steven and Laurel finding out about Jere cheating.
In the books only Conrad finds out. Laurel is so mad she barely talks to Belly to find out, and Steven is barely a character in the books.
I feel like them finding out would add better depth and better content. I need to see them furious. I need to see them defending her. but I also feel like it won't happen, bc if they know, Conrad knows. and Conrad find out near the end of the book bc hat's what makes him tell Belly he loves her.
Steven would absolutely tell Conrad, and Laurel would likely tell Steven, which again would relay back to Conrad. sadly I think that means they'll stay in the dark, maybe never even discussing it.

"what have I done?" meant so much. it meant so fucking much. because it was a double meaning.
he means what has he done in regards to staying when he knew he should have gone home. staying there meant he was gonna be stuck in the very house he fell in love with this woman in, and living with her while FIGHTING not to tell her how he feels. his chest ACHING every single fucking day now, bc he can't say it.
he means what has he done in regards to taking so fucking long. he pushed her away for so long thinking he would get over her and his love has only intensified. he's almost completely lost her now. she's marrying HIS BROTHER and its his fault. he did this. if he just was honest with her since day one, was just open with her, she would be marrying him instead.
he means what has he done in regards to not only staying at the house with Belly, but clearing the air. he left him vulnerable enough for her to hug him. he made a strong gesture of love and approval. he told Belly he APPROVED, basically telling her he didn't love her like that anymore. he left it open for her to be his FRIEND again. and he knows he can't handle being her friend.
what had he done in regards to him having to watch the love of his life walk down the aisle, right towards him, only to be at his brothers side, not his. he has to witness something he always wanted to see. Belly in a white dress, walking to a wedding march, only she'll be marrying Jeremiah, and he just gets front row seats.
it's full on regret of the love he feels, the love he felt, and the love he knows will never go away. regret of his past, present, and probably future choices all piling up on him as Belly hugs him in a way that makes him want to both never let her go, and run away from fear that he'll tell her everything, right there, right now, if only he hadn't promised Susannah.

guys I'm so ready for Conrad Fisher to be livid when he finds out his brother cheated on HIS girl!!!!! like he's going to be so angry and I'm so excited!!!! idk why either I just cannot wait to see him ready to punch Jere like he's usually so nonchalant and stoic but he's going to be FURIOUS. I want slamming doors. I want yelling. I want Conrad Fisher to realize he never should have let Jeremiah get the girl, because of course, he treated her like SHIT.
