"If you look at the scene properly, you see Alfred’s dream, everything that is happening is happening in his head - but is it really? Could it be that Herbert has snuck into the dream? I see Herbert as the puppet master who is actually pulling the strings in that situation.”

Pompeji - Das Musical

Concept Recording - no performances yet (german) [ Youtube | Amazon ]
About: Pompeji - The Musical is waiting for its world premiere for several years now, but you can buy the Concept Recording since 2008, so you get a good impression of the planned play - and it has what it takes! Gunar Braunke (Book and Lyrics) has created a story that captivates the listener, and created together with Christian Stader (Music) 14 songs, which convince through ingenuity, profound lyrics and a well-known cast. When it comes to the music, everyone will get their money's worth. From menacing rock songs (Die Träume des Magiers) over profound duets (Der Weg) to emotional ballads (Zweifel). Inspired by the novel The Last Days of Pompeii, the musical adapts the basics of Edward Bulwer-Lytton's story and gives the listener a thought-provoking lesson. Here's a great compliment to Braunke, because you can find in almost all lyrics wonderful sentences which are completely understandable and complement well with Stader's compositions. The music of Christian Stader at this point is again particularly noteworthy - Because it delights with ingenuity, unused ideas and capturing melodies.
We can only hope that Pompeji will soon find a suitable venue, where the songs shine in new splendour through orchestra and scenery.
Storyline: The archaeologist Plinius makes excavations in the ruins of Pompeii. Increasingly frequent tremors send his imagination back into the revived city and to it's former residents. Soon he witnesses a web of intrigues of the dark magician Arbaces, a high priest of the Isis cult, who has come to fame and fortune through the lies of his religion. Plinius, who falls in love with the beautiful Ione, soon finds himself in the midst of the events and in a web of jealousy, love and murder. At the climax of the events, the true disaster befalls the people of Pompeii [...] Those, who buy the concept CD, get in addition to the music a booklet which brings the reader closer to the story with its characters... and you want that booklet!
