When you had caught your boyfriend cheating on you, you had gone to the one person who you knew would have your back, no matter what. You had at least sent a text you were on your way, so when you showed up crying on Nick’s doorstep, he was expecting you.

“Hey, what happened?” Nick asked, ushering you into the house. “Talk to me.”

“I caught him with another girl.” You said through your tears; you were soaking Nick’s shirt, but he clearly didn’t mind, especially since he was pulling you closer to him.

“I’m gonna kill him.” Nick grumbled. He hadn’t liked the guy in the first place, but he was being the supportive friend. “No one gets to treat you like that.”

“Thanks Nick, but it’s ok really. You warned me.” You said. “Thanks for being here now. That means a lot.”

“I’m always here.” he said. “I’m free too, if you need someone to show you how a real man should treat a girl.”

You looked at Nick. The two of you had been friends for a long time, and you had gotten the feeling he was thinking more than friends. You had been going down that path yourself the last couple of months as well.

“You know, I might take you up on that.” You said, looking over to Nick. “We might as well start this off with the ‘there’s only one bed so we have to share’, right?” You giggled a little.

“Sure.” Nick said. “You want some of my clothes to wear too? I know you didn’t bring any pajamas with you.”

“Yes please.”

When you went official a couple weeks later, everyone finally told you it was about time. You and Nick were the happiest anyone had seen the two of you be in a long time.

Alright, here we go...sorry it took so long!

Prompt: “I could just stare at you forever” “Creep”

You were hanging out with your boyfriend Brendan. He was getting ready for the playoffs and you had flown out to see him. You hadn’t seen him since he left Michigan, and now that finals were over, you had been on the first flight out to see him. He had been on a tear recently for Henderson, and you hadn’t gotten to see him as much as you had hoped, but any time spent with him was enough for you.

Tonight, he had invited you out to the game; you had decided to go (you hadn’t gone quite yet because you weren’t ready to deal with all the questions; you and he had done a good job of keeping your relationship out of the public eye, and you wanted to keep it that way). He had asked you to wear his jersey. You weren’t sure, but then he said you’d be up in the press box with his dad and Jordan, so you gave in.

That night, he got a goal and he pointed up at you. You sent him a “heart hands” back and at the end of the night, he met you after the game. “Come on, let’s go home. Just you and me tonight.” He said. You weren’t going to complain-some alone time would be nice.

He had a glass of your favorite wine waiting (which you knew Pat had totally gone and bought, since Brendan couldn’t get alcohol yet). You sat down on the couch to watch a movie, but he was spending more time staring at you instead of the TV.

“Bren? Whatcha doing?” You asked, pausing the movie.

“I could just stare at you forever.” He said, grinning.

“Creep.” You laughed. 

“Oh, you know you love it.”

“I do. But I would love some of your cuddles more.” you said, grinning as he opened his arms to let you settle in. This was your favorite place to be.

For bug day

Bug and Bords, maybe bords is babysitting or smth and bug is asking him about all of his tattoos, so he tells her about them all and then she gets upset when he says she can't have any (at least not yet anyway)

And then, to make it up to her, Bords letting Bug colour in his tattoos

And then when reader and Quinn get home she's passed out with pen on her cheek and Bords is just like

"I felt bad, I'm weak, look at that face"

It was finally date night and Bordy had told you both he would babysit bug.

She was so excited about the idea and you had no worries they’d be great together.

“Can we watch a movie Bordy?” “Sure, go pick out which one you want I’ll get snacks!”

He came back to find her already up on the couch with the intro to the mighty ducks came on.

“Don’t you get tired of Hockey bug?” She looked appalled “Never Tommy”

They lay up on the couch, Bug’s head rested on Thomas’ bicep until he removed her to take off his hoodie.

Bug stared in amazement at his tattoos “You have drawings on your arm Tommy!”

He laughs “Yeah bug they’re called tattoos”

“What are they?” She cocks her head to the side in confusion. Bords starts listing off all the tattoos and what they mean, what they are.

“Can I have one?” “No bug”

Thomas watches her bottom lip quiver “Why not?”

“They’re for adults bug” she starts to get quite emotional and Thomas doesn’t know what to do so in quick thinking he grabs her colouring pens off the table and holds them out to her “You can’t get one yet but you can colour mine in if you want”

Her little eyes light up. She’s grabbing all the pens, colouring in the lines and explaining to him why she’s doing the colours she is.

It’s later whenever you both get home, stumbling in the door to find your daughter not in bed bud instead passed out on Thomas’ chest while his arm is bright blue and pink.

Bugs got green pen right across her cheek and still holding the open pen in her hands while she softly snores.

You raised an eyebrow at the boy “Pen?”

“She asked if she could get a tattoo! Started crying! I’m a weak man! I couldn’t say no!” The two of you just laugh, Quinn picking bug up to take her to bed while you bid Bords a goodnight.

It’s a few weeks later and Thomas has come to see Bug again “I’ve got something to show you”

“What is it Tommy?!”

He pulls up his sleeve to show her a new tattoo, a ladybug.

“What’s that?”

“It’s a bug, for my bug”

THE MISCONCEPTION ABOUT COMMENTING ON FIC

I’ve read all kinds of posts both from writers and readers lamenting about comments on fic. Authors are upset when they don’t get any, readers don’t know what kinds of comments to leave, etc. And it finally clicked in my brain why I think a lot of people don’t bother writing comments. 

And this is what it boils down to:

Writers do not want praise.  We just want to talk about our story. 

I can’t speak for everyone obviously - but I think the majority of writers don’t care so much for the “omg you’re a brilliant writer!!” comments as much as we just want to hear your thoughts on the story. Even if it’s just your thoughts as you’re reading of “oooh x happened! I can’t believe y said this! What’s going to happen now that z has happened?!” We literally just want to talk about what we’ve written like you would with a friend about a tv show. We’re not out here demanding praise like some entitled narcissist. 

While praising our writing skills or writing style is appreciated, it doesn’t need to be said on every fic and every chapter that you read. If you regularly comment on someone’s work that’s telling enough that you like our technique. Readers shouldn’t feel pressured to have to praise a writer’s abilities every time they want to comment. 

In the grand scheme of things, talking about the fic/chapter is actually more helpful to us writers instead of spewing praise. It’s the same with artwork. As nice as it is that people tell me “wow your art is so pretty!” it’s a LOT more useful to me to get comments like “I love their expressions!” or “the lighting on this is gorgeous!” because then I know WHAT people are liking about it. If no one ever comments on my backgrounds, I now know what to improve. If most people comment on liking the expressions, I now know the strong points of my art and can use it to my advantage to make even better art in the future. 

The same goes for fic. If multiple people tell me they liked a certain part of the story I now know that things similar to that are a hit. It’s feedback I can use to improve the story and give my readers more of what they want. Without that I have no idea what they like about the fic.

Talking with a writer about their story also gives them inspiration!! Nothing gets us more in the mood to work on a fic than to have people wanting to talk about it. A lot of times just talking about one of my fics with someone will give me that push to continue working on it. Getting a comment that just says “great chapter” or “you’re a great writer” doesn’t do much to motivate us to continue that particular fic. But if you talk about the story and the characters it gives us motivation to continue working on it, may even give us ideas for future chapters. I would hope that those of you with “comment anxiety” find this approach so much easier than trying to praise the writer every time you read.

So that fic the author hasn’t updated in forever that you’re dying to read? Talk to them about the fic and the elements of the story! It will make the writer want to talk to you about it and will get their mind thinking about it, hopefully inspiring them to continue where they left off. Fics that are left in silence are more likely to be abandoned or even deleted because nothing feels worse than putting your heart into a story to have no one say anything about it. 

TLDR; Writers do not want praise, we just want to talk with our readers about the story itself, and these are the kinds of comments that inspire us to keep writing more.

and we’re done. Only the 1 injury. Now to fill out my report and clean up the ambulance. Then going home to my nice warm house and having a hot mug of tea.

And we’ve now had all 4 seasons (summer/sunshine, winter/snow, fall/wind and cold temps, and spring/rain) in one day. We are back to racing. 🤞🏻 to no more injuries.

And we have our first one of the day…thankfully the tears from the video had just stopped (they started again, but that’s cause I hit my head in the top of the ambulance, lol)
