Day 30: (Head) Gear: 

A bit of a stretch for the prompt, but horns and antlers and other types of ornamentation in animals can be called “headgear.” Another redraw; I intended to ink a pencil sketch I did last year of some Rocky Mountain elk. In the end, I decided to mostly start from scratch, at least on the elk, since I am not in love with the original sketch.

Day 27: Shell (Western pond turtle)

Day 26: Ego. Research done on magpies indicates that they can recognize themselves in a mirror, which shows a level of self-awareness previously considered exclusive to humans and very few other mammals.

Day 17: Salty (I really just wanted to draw a pelican, but needed to meet the prompt. Check and check).

Day 5: Flame (yeah, not sure what's happening with this, but there is a flame).

Inktober is almost done! So, here are all the days that I haven't posted yet (including today). All of these were started on the correct day of the month, but I just haven't finished most of them yet. I will have a lot of projects to start rendering next month! OH YEAH.

Day 1: Gargoyle (based very loosely on one of the gargoyles on Tower Bridge in London). I'm very pleased with the way this is turning out so far, although I will probably still adjust the anatomy somewhat. And then render it to hopefully look like animate stone. We'll see how that goes.

Day 24: "Fairy" (Superb fairy wren) Day 25: "Temptation" (not super interested in this prompt, so I probably won't ever render this drawing). Day 28: "Camping" (Steller's Jay, in honor of the fact that I was often woken in the morning by these birds calling in the tree above my tent while doing field work on the turtle project). Day 29: "Uh-oh" (Yeah, I think this is self-explanatory)

I've still been working away at Inktober, and have at least started a drawing every day this month. I've just been negligent about posting them. So, here are a few of the new ones! 

10/19: PONYTAIL. A literal interpretation . . . this is Przewalski's horse, and I'm not in love with the ink shading, but that's what November is for, right? To fix all the things I don't like that I did this month? 

10/20: BLUFF. If pretending to be an owl isn't a bluff, I don't know what is. :D Probably the best thing I've done so far this month. 

10/21: BAD DOG. No such thing (as a bad dog), but I drew this anyway. Originally, I'd intended to draw an entire werewolf (which is a better interpretation of the prompt), but the anatomy was giving me trouble, so I gave up on that haha. 

10/22: HEIST. No commentary necessary (there is a video of this event, if you feel like going to look for it). 

10/23: BOOGER. I'm not a fan of this prompt, but I figured out a reasonable way to fulfill it. Hagfish are pretty gross haha.

Day 12: Forget. I decided to do something ghostly for this prompt. I added "Never" before Forget, and did an illustration of one my favorite ghost stories: "She Moved Through the Fair." At least, I interpret it as a ghost story.

Day 13: "Kind." This illustrates the word in two different ways: first these are different "kinds" of animals. And maybe we can consider symbiosis a way of being "kind" to one another. (Okay, so that'a a stretch, but I'm going with it anyway).

Day 11: Eagle. Yeah, that's not an eagle. It's a red-tailed hawk. But this is another re-draw. The older drawing, done in actual ink on actual illustration board (WEIRD haha) is something I did back around 1984. I like the new one better. (Although the old one wasn't bad).

Day 10: Crabby. Not totally in the mood for this prompt, so I did something simple and a bit silly. I mean epic LOL.

Day 9: Nest. Super happy about the way this is turning out. Clearly, it's not yet finished haha. But these are some Australian Darters that we saw when we were house-boating on the Murray River back in 2005.

Day 8: "Match." I decided to add "Death" to the front of today's prompt, so I could justify this Battle Royale design. I'm not sure who's going to win. Well, actually . . . I suspect that the shark and the whale are going to gang up and take that squid DOWN! :D
