My friend Marie started blogging again, after tweeting about the 10 year anniversary of the Jeffrey Campbell ‘Lita’ platform bewt. (Which, has sparked something short of a Lita renaissance. Something I’m not mad at)
Marie’s desire to blog again inspired me. It’s been about, 7 years since i last blogged and the energy to even attempt to type up something that exceeds an Instagram caption’s worth of words, just wasn’t there anymore. And in a time when vlogging and video content is more desirable and consumable, I ask myself, à la Carrie Bradshaw, do people even give a shit?
Well, at least until recently.
Back when I used to blog, I mainly wrote about the exciting and experimental shift menswear had taken. From 2009 proper, until I entered my 20’s, I captured the visual grammar menswear had taken. From the early hard players like, JW Anderson and Shaun Samson, to more established labels like, Jeremy Scott and Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy. This was a time when those of us who knew what was going on, relished in its splendor.
I always looked at 2014 as being the last of the fun because by 2015, some of the labels who were the vanguards and had ushered in this refreshing wave of color and splendor, seized up or decided to embark on new projects. It also didn’t help that the masses started to pay attention and dictate where we were now going.
Despite all of that and this here history lesson and reading Marie’s first post over at her new blog and being stuck at home because of quarantinta, I caught myself missing the feeling these first collections gave me. I missed writing about these collections and putting to words the emotions fashion gifted me.
And now that I’m older, nearing 30, with the body that can no longer fit into the experimental fashions my once twinky body could and a mind that has been through the darkest of days and back into the brightest days only the sun could give, I find myself wanting to write again.
I may not post often and I may need to find a new avenue to take, when it comes to the content I want to focus on, but I think this pandemic forcing me to stay home and making me shift my perspective on life, has made me want to go back to the start.
So, uh, let’s begin, faguettes!
