Lofting is a dark art, for us it starts with translating scans of the hand written table of offsets written by NGH in 1928. For the most part this isn’t too hard, any anything that looks “off” we can fair in when we draw it. HOWEVER, the transom page is nearly illegible and the voodoo that they do isn’t giving us a curve that is even remotely fair. Thankfully the boat is readable so we will be pulling the lines tomorrow morning

So this years projects at IYRS are a pair of Herreshoffs; 330p, a launch, and 1093 a Colonia Lifeboat (the only known survivor of 30 made). Right now we are lofting and preparing the work surface. I got to build the platforms, layout the grid (stations and centerline) level the strong back (-1/16” off over 17’), build an extension to support the transom, and bring the bring the grid up to the top of the strong back. Finally got to use my trammels and my new planking compass. Once we finish the lofting the molds will be installed on the strong back, just adding a layer of stability to the build process as well as more separation from the heated floor.
