He was always dressed well, that being one of the things that initially drew her to him. Of course there had been a lot more things not but he had a gift for spotting style. Barbie asked for his advice on many of her outfit choices, needing a second opinion she trusted when she second guessed herself. She moved her sunglasses down to get a better look before pushing them back into place. “Did you? Huh, well, I’m glad you kept it. Gives a nice view,” the girl said as she leaned back into her chair and laid herself out to continue to tan. His next comment didn’t even phase her, Ken always wanting their next destination to be the bedroom. He had one thing on the mind but she was quick to bring him back down. “I’m sure it would look good there too but I have an hour and a half to sit here in the sun and do absolutely nothing before I have to get on for a meeting. As much fun as I’m sure we’d have, the sun sets in a few hours and I know who’s bed you’ll be in tonight so we can reconvene then.” She patted the chair next to her without looking away from the sky.
-
Ken pouted, obviously disappointed, but he did his best to not make it look too serious. In the long run, it really wasn’t. He just had a hard time keeping his hands off of Barbie when he got the chance and seeing her relaxed and enjoying herself just drove him wild. “Do you want me to leave you be? I know Barbara time is the most important time.” He always wants to make sure that he is giving her the space she desires because if he is too much he is fairly afraid that she will run and leave him alone in their beautiful home because she doesn’t want to be tied down for too long. He respects her, he wants nothing but the best for her, and he wants to be the best for her. “I have nothing to do for the daytime anyways. I got a thing with the guys later, but that’s it. So if you do want me around....I promise it will be a lot of fun.” He was always saying he was going out with the guys when he had a thing to do for Lotso. It was the only thing that didn’t get him a million questions that broke his heart to lie about. He was still so behind and wanted to take any job he could to get out of debt so he could be the man Barbie needed, but it was still hard. “Either way, I am ready to accept your decision, beautiful.”

Ken had gotten the swim shorts just for Barbie to notice. He had been planning it perfectly and knew that eventually he would casually stroll out to her someday. Today was his lucky day because he played it right and there she was, looking at him like he was doing something right. He beamed at her. He couldn’t help himself. He hadn’t even planned on being here for more than a few minutes and now he could spend the entire day here if that was what Barbie wanted. If she wanted him around at all, of course. “It is new. I got it off of my last ad. I had a feeling you would like it.” His grin turned a little cheeky as he got closer to her. “I can take it off though, if that’s something you want to. I mean...I bet it would look a lot better on the floor....”

She’d been feeling a little low on some sunshine lately, needing something to help bring back some of the glow in her skin. When she got overworked she always felt it and the best remedy for when she felt a little run down was hanging by the pool. Taking a break was sometimes just as important as working or so she’d come to realize over the years. That didn’t mean that it wasn’t hard to keep from looking at her phone. Even when she was just scrolling she had to force herself to turn it off and set it face down on. That’s when Ken came out to join her, making it all the easier to not be tempted to look at it. “Oh, that color looks great with your skin tone,” she said with a firm nod. “Is that new?”

"What's it like to brag about raking in dollars and getting bitches and models?" - atta
Ken placed a hand on his heart. “Wow, first off, I am offended at the term bitches. The people I keep close are not bitches, they are beautiful people. Strong and passionate!” He was joking at the offense for the most part, but his words still held truth. He held the people he spent time with in high regard and he would always speak that truth. “I mean, if you’re asking how it is to never be alone it’s pretty cool. I don’t mean to brag if I have been. That’s super rude of me.” He needed to be more of a gentleman in front of Kit’s fiancé. How could he be so stupid? “I deeply apologize if my words have been making you uncomfortable. I will be so much more polite going forward.” @attadreyfus

"You're the kind of guy the ladies want." - Marie
Ken flashed her a grin. It was sweet, he was sort of aware of it as a reality, but he also knew that if they knew everything there was to know about him that it was not true. No lady wanted a man so wrapped up in his debts that he had to hurt others to carry it out. Most of the time Ken didn't even allow himself to remember those events. Blacking out from either booze or drugs or pure will-power; he was a gentle creature, and having to get his hands dirty was not something he liked doing or felt good about. He knew there was no one in his life that would understand the deep shit he was in and how suffocating it felt because there was no way out. No way away from Lotso that didn't hurt every single person he cared about in the process.
But that wasn't even what was important right now. What was in front of him was, and all he saw was Marie, the starlet that shined brighter than the North Star and her giving him a compliment he did not fully deserve. "Thanks," he said with a giggle, placing his careful and fragile mask back on as he focused on charming rather than lying. "I hope that applies to the woman I do want. Not that all woman aren't beautiful and meant to be kept close and cherished to the heavens, but....it's nice when the woman I'm looking at is into what I got." He looked her in the eyes and winked. "Don't be mistaken though. The guys and the girls are already lining up for you. I can't blame them, either." @catscratchfevcr

It was kind of fun to have people coming to Kit’s house unannounced, beyond the initial shock of thinking that she was being robbed. That would never fly in the Dreyfus house: not just because she didn’t have many friends, but her mother would also think that it was unacceptable. “Oh, no, it’s no problem. I’m sure I’ll get used to it.” She had been cooking for two, but Atta supposed she could throw some extra in for him to try. Any friend of Kit’s was now going to be hers, too. “You can stay until it’s done if you’d like some,” she offered, gesturing to one of the seats at the kitchen island. “The pleasure’s all mine! Getting to know someone includes getting to know their friends, in my opinion. How long have you known Kit? Obviously a lot longer than I have,” Atta added with a laugh.
-
“I hope you do. ‘Cause Kit’s house is really nice and normally really close from my favorite bars and I would really hate having to change my routine.” He also liked to check on Kit. It was important as the best friend to make sure that their best friend has not completely lost it yet. “I would love to stay for breakfast. Whatcha making? It smells incredible.” He leaned against the counter, taking a moment to think. “Umm...a really, really, long time? I am not the best with numbers, I won’t lie.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “He’s a funny guy, that Kit Charming. I know all of his dirty secrets. What do you want to know about your future husband? It’s only fair you know what you’re getting yourself into.”

Sometimes she forgot that people actually knew her before she ever knew them. Many around town had probably seen Marie in something before ever finding out about the Kit Charming engagement details. It was almost surreal if she was to think too hard on it, instead choosing to look at him. During her arrangement with Kit her eyes hadn’t looked over his friends as more than people who she needed to remember but now that she could, Ken had the face for the screen. “Just as any woman would love to see a handsome man say beautiful things to them through a screen,” she said looking to him with a small suggestion behind her eyes. “I think they’d eat you up, you’d fit in perfectly.” Perhaps better than her sometimes. He seemed to be good at talking, she had a fire inside of her that she knew stopped her before. Perhaps the fact it all happened this way was a good thing, finally giving in to the person her mother wouldn’t approve of. A lady, just not in the way she wanted. “As long as you don’t mind keeping me company I’d really appreciate it, that sounds exactly like what I need.” Marie exaggerated a voice a little, a smile coming forward. “That’s a very big promise to upkeep you know,” she said giving him a raise of her eyebrow before taking his hand. “I can only hope the same for you. To start, I think I have a drink to get you for helping me out like this.”
-
Ken snorted. “If I was on the screen, I would be the dopey best friend that said stupid things all the time. I know my roles, Marie. It’s okay. I don’t let that bother me much.” He was the witty, slutty bestie. He was the himbo. He couldn’t be mad about it because, well, that was who he was in real life. He didn’t think he could pretend to be anything else when being himself meant so much to him. “I would be crazy to not keep you company. I mean, you’re Marie Bonfamille! Is there any other woman as talented and interesting?” Of course his mind drifted to Barbie for a moment, but as much as he loved her, he wasn’t lying. Marie was enchanting for different reasons that Barbie was. He felt a little bad for feeling that way but he didn’t. He guided her into the party. It was still loud as ever and even more busy because midnight was approaching. He knew he was going to have to take his bodyguard role pretty seriously the moment they stepped inside again. He squeezed her hand reassuringly before pulling her a little bit closer so he could link his arm with hers. “I don’t go back on my promises. Where do you want to go first, Miss Marie?”

As much as she liked having people calling to book the girl that was famously engaged to Kit Charming, the last thing she wanted to do right now was have to answer anymore questions about the ordeal. Everyone wanted to know what happened and perhaps that was one of the reasons she’d slipped out of the venue that night. She’d never felt suffocated by her job but being his ex-fiance was a role she apparently hadn’t prepared for adequately. She breathed the smoke in like a layer of protection against the eyes on her. That never kept her from standing straight with her cat eye drawn on sharp enough to cut anyone she needed to. His acknowledgement of her work caught her by surprise, not everyone was the type to know what she’d been in but it was a flattery that worked for her. “Have you? I’m flattered to have been welcomed onto your screen,” she said with a laugh before taking another drag of her cigarette. “You say that as if you’re not up and coming yourself. You’re a model after all.” Marie hadn’t met Ken personally but she knew of him from word of mouth and doing her own research when she first started this scandal with Kit. “Maybe if I give modeling a shot then you could try your luck on film. Casting would love you.” He was the type. Attractive, good build, tall, giving all things tall, dark and handsome. Marie put out her cigarette with a sigh, knowing she’d need to break the habit sooner or later. “Only if you promise to help me completely block out all the people who want to get the next juicy gossip from the girl that almost married Kit Charming. Tonight I want to be just Marie,” she said holding out her hand for him to take if he chose to accept her offer. “Think you can help me do that?”
-
Ken had never considered being an actor. He wasn’t sure he would get the whole memorizing the lines thing down and he was good at what he did so he never really tried to be more. He was sure that sounded awful; it wasn’t that he wasn’t ambitious he just....was content with where he was. Though now he was wondering how good he would look on the silver screen as an extra or something. He could totally play the witty friend if he tried surely. “I have. I’m not ashamed to say I wanted to see a strong woman doing what she does best. As for me....I dunno if I would be welcomed to your world as easily as you would with mine.” He put out his own cigarette right after her and grinned. “I can be your personal bodyguard without a doubt. People don’t know how to mind their own business and if you get a few drinks in me I can be the best muscle you have ever had. I am not afraid to be used!” He really felt for her. Wanting to be her own person was a great thing, and he was confidant that she already was and just wasn’t seeing it yet. He was hoping he could help her see it. Nothing pained him more than seeing an obviously strong woman struggling with her power. She deserved to be a force to be reckon with and then some. “No one is going to tell you who you are tonight. This is your night and it’s gonna be awesome.” He held his hand out to her. “I promise to keep you safe and to make sure you have the best end of the year that you can.”

Ken had a habit of entering Kit’s home without actually giving Kit a heads up. It was kind of like his second home really so he got really comfy really quickly. He also was just a very simple man who just didn’t have it in him to think that far ahead. Today it was because he had been out super late and he wanted to refresh real quick before heading home. Kit had a really nice bathroom and normally didn’t mind so he just let himself in and was going to let Kit know of his presence then and there. Before he could even do anything he was running into a gorgeous woman that had to be his new fiancé. He didn’t know much about this woman other than the fact that she was crazy rich and hardly knew Kit. “Hi! I’m Ken, the best friend. And that’s my bad. I kinda forget that I don’t just live here sometimes.” He smiled sheepishly. “That’s another bummer. But you don’t have to apologize. I smelt the food and had to see if Kit was using his kitchen on his own for once before I did what I needed to do.” He chuckled, mostly to himself. This was honestly so crazy. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Atta.”

Atta didn’t realize just how popular of a guy her future fiance was until she spent more time at his house. She’d been spending more time there just to be around Kit more, but also to become more acclimated to the entire estate and start to make it feel like home. This wasn’t the first time that someone had come by when he wasn’t home, looking for him, but it was a first to see someone just saunter in like they owned the place as much as Kit did. “Holy–hello? What are you … are you looking for Kit? He’s not home right now. You know, you could’ve knocked or something,” she sputtered, startled. She was just getting used to other people being around without fear of it being some sort of intruder. “Sorry, I would’ve cleaned up a bit more if I’d known that we were having company, but you caught me mid-cooking,” Atta apologized, wiping her hands on her apron before extending one of them to him. “I’m Atta, by the way. Excuse me being frazzled; we usually don’t have people just walking in in the middle of the day,” she said with a laugh.

She could feel his eyes on her, wondering if her demeanor had changed the way she felt it did. Something about her felt more genuine now and Marie was embracing a confidence she hadn’t felt before. The fact she was able to come out of this engagement scheme the way she did was enough for her to deserve a little fun. It had gotten old, doing what everyone expected of her. “Here’s to hoping he finds it then,” she said raising her cigarette while the smoke cascaded from her lips. Marie hadn’t intended to stumble upon one of Kit’s friends but life had a way of being funny like that. It probably wasn’t the best idea to be talking to him but she couldn’t help herself. He had a jaw chiseled from stone and tonight she’d been noticing it more. “No plans, just seeing where life takes me. I think I’m going to focus on my career, turns out getting cheated on by Kit Charming is quite good for your resume,” she said with a soft laugh. His looks made up for the stumbling through, Marie found it endearing in a way. “You already gave me the best thing.” The girl lifted her cigarette before taking another drag. “Thank you, that’s very kind of you.”
-
Ken chuckled at her words. He was sure that opportunities were coming out of every corner for her now and he was happy for her in that sense. She deserved to have a lavished career on her talent alone, but it never hurt to have some aid from the press. Ken knew all too well how being in the good graces of a scandal could work wonders for a person. Still, he believed she could do it all without it. “You’re a lovely actress. I’ve seen your last few movies. I’m becoming a big fan.” He placed a hand on his chest. “I just want to do what I can. It’s not every day I even get the chance to help a starlet out like this. The only other thing I can do right off the bat is tell you how you should model and how I can get your foot in the door if you wish. But I have a feeling you won’t even really need my help to do that if you wanted to.” He finished his cigarette and wiped his hands on the side of his outfit. “Do you wanna go back into the party and get a drink? Or dance? I would love to show you off and let the world know that you’re the star of this party.”

There was so much left in her life that she wanted to explore after the ending of her engagement. The realization of how trapped she’d been beneath her mother’s shadow hit harder than anything in the gossip blog could have. Now all she was able to think about was just how much she’d done to appease her. That’s why this event was one she felt the need to attend, revealing for the first time since the end of her engagement the person she’d finally been able to embrace. She’d never thought about being anything other than a blonde and yet now that her curls were a black against her red dress. It felt like Marie but the side of herself she’d always hidden from the world. With it being out in the open now she felt a sense of relief knowing it was. That didn’t change the fact that he hadn’t the slightest idea, no one else did. “Thank you,” she said leaning forward to light the cigarette sitting between her crimson painted lips. “No, no, it’s honestly alright. It was probably for the best to have it happen now rather than later.” Little did he know she’d been waiting for this day but this wasn’t the way she’d expected it to happen. She actually felt bad for him, knowing he was still trapped in his own sense. “I hope he finds happiness, I truly do.”
-
The more he stared at her, the more he couldn’t understand what Kit was thinking. He always thought Kit to have a pretty rational head on his shoulders but he let her go? She was stunning; seeing those red lips wrapped around that cigarette was making his brain short-circuit more than normal, and he actually had the urge to smack his friend for being so blind. Still, Kit was a romantic, and a guy that didn’t just fall in love like that. So, if he didn’t love this woman, that was it, but god, he hoped she could find some kind of guy who was going to treat her like the diamond she clearly was. “He will. He’s not the kind of guy who’s just gonna...not sign himself away without love being a factor. No matter what his old man says. He’ll get out of it and come around when he’s ready.” He titled his head to the side as they smoked, studying her, but also just honestly checking her out. He didn’t really have the brain capacity to be incredibly observant, but he did have the brain power to appreciate beauty when he saw it. He was really quick to fall into the charms of beautiful people. He didn’t think he was shallow, but maybe he was. He just.....liked to romanticize more than he liked to romance sometimes. “So what are your plans now, then? I mean, you could have any guy you wanted on their knees in a desperate attempt to please you, so, the world really is your clam right now! Or...whatever that saying is. I’m not really good at metaphors.” He took a drag of his cigarette and smiled bashfully. “If you need any assistance for any of your needs....I’m here for you. Seriously.”

Ken couldn’t even remember how he got invited to this New Year’s Party. All he remembers is that a friend of a friend of a couple of friends were going and he wanted any excuse he could to dress nicely and lather himself in glitter....well, body shimmer. He was already planning to drink as much as he could, turn off his phone and deal with Lotso’s wrath later, and then see where the night took him. He wanted to start the new year with a bang and one that didn’t result in him swimming in debt like he did previous years. So this party had to be safe enough for that. He was ready for a night that was going to change his life...after a cigarette. He knew the things were super bad for him and normally he wouldn’t indulge in any, but hey, the celebration was all about letting go of personal vices and being a better person when the year started. He was just about to light it up when he captured the attention of a certain familiar woman. He never knew Marie that well, just that she was Kit’s fiance and she was beautiful. He knew better than to try and get too cozy with a woman that was betrothed to his best friend but....she wasn’t betrothed to him anymore. So Ken couldn’t get himself into trouble for making sure she was doing okay and if the lady wanted a light....he was going to give her a light. “Yeah ‘course,” he held out his lighter for her to burn her cigarette. “Least I can do for the woman too good of catch...even for my best friend. I’m....I’m sorry for how that all went down...I didn’t even know about....I still don’t really even know about....uhh. sorry. You probably don’t want to talk about all that stuff.”
who: @hesadollx where: ghostzone
It was a bad habit that had gotten worse after the lowest point of her engagement facade fiasco but there was something so relaxing about smoking a cigarette. She’d never expected to be that girl who needs to go for a smoke break. She’d even been keeping her use of marijuana a secret from most people, not wanting it to turn sour in the hands of the press. Being looked at by eyes of the whole town was a strain she didn’t realize was so strong until she got involved with Kit. Perhaps she shouldn’t be out this soon after her engagement failed and everyone believes her to be heartbroken but Marie wanted to have fun again, feeling trapped while being cooped up in her apartment pretending to be crushed by the news. That didn’t mean she hadn’t seen the looks she’d been getting that evening, already imaging what they had to say through whispers. Marie could see the pity in all of their eyes, like they felt bad for her, and she hated it. In fact, that exact thing was what drove her to going outside for a cigarette when she saw another pair of eyes on her. “You could take a picture instead, it’ll last longer,” Marie said turning to the girl as she rushed back inside. It was left to just her and one more standing outside in the cold. After bumming a cigarette from someone inside she realized there was one more thing she’d need to find. “Do you have a light?” She asked with a small smile, holding up her unlit cigarette.

Shaggy nodded in understanding, but as he threw half the shot down his throat at once anyway he found himself immediately coughing and placing the glass back in front of him. “Thanks for the warning,” he managed to get out after a moment, chasing the stronger alcohol down with his much weaker drink and wishing he’d ordered a water instead. Once he’d gotten his lungs under control, he finally answered Ken. “Oh, you know, just, like… nothing.” He knew eventually he’d have to find a job, but he didn’t know where to start. Maybe it was lazy, but he’d rather mooch off of his parents for as long as he could.
-
Ken was sad to see how he handled his shots. He knew that not everyone had a liver of steel like he did, but he was hoping he had a tad bit more experience. At the same time knowing he was better at him at that gave him some sort of stroke to his fragile male ego. “Nothing? Like, nothing at all?” He couldn’t believe that. No one looked that good by doing nothing. There had to be a secret skin care routine or job that kept him looking so stupidly hot. “Do you need a job? Are you in-between jobs? Man, I just don’t buy it.”
