Hi, what do you recommend one does when they feel disconnected from their gods / faith when depression and down moods get to you? Especially during these times, I get so disillusioned with everything :/
I know this feeling exactly! Sometimes mental illness can create a sort of barrier, where you really can’t “feel” your gods, and sometimes you just aren’t well enough to do any active worship. I’ve been there many times.
First, know that the gods are not mad at you for this. They understand mental illness, and they will never be mad if you have to take some time to better your health.
Here are some really easy, low energy things you can do, that will help you to feel more connected to your gods:
• Write a letter to your deity/deities. Address it to them. Write about how you’re feeling. Write out a list of things that you’re grateful for that they give you. This is not only a good way to connect with them, but also can help to boost your mood because of the ability to vent, and to pick out some things you’re grateful for. Leave the journal on your altar if you have one.
• Listen to some music you think they’d like. Make a playlist for one of them. Dedicate your listening time to them.
• If you have an altar, just sit in front of it. Light the candles and sit there. Talk out loud to them. Cry if you need to. Tell them about your day.
• Read some poetry, hymns, or prayers out loud to them.
• Draw a picture for them. Doodle, color with crayons, make a sculpture out of clay. Leave it out and tell them you made it for them.
• Write down a list of your strengths. Even though it’s hard to pick them out, they’re there. Think about how proud your gods are of you, because they ARE proud of you.
• Do another devotional activity that relates to them. Here are some examples:
- Apollo: Sing, play an instrument, draw, listen to music.
- Ares: Write about your strengths. Listen to a motivational speech. Listen to some music that makes you feel strong.
- Hermes: Watch a funny video and laugh about it. Call a friend. Reach out for help, if you need it.
- Athena: Learn a new skill, even if it’s meaningless. Read a book.
- Aphrodite: Take a self care bath. Put on a face mask. Dance to music.
I didn’t have time to proof read this so hopefully there are no mistakes. Know that you are doing a good job, and you are SO STRONG for getting through this. It isn’t easy. 🖤

The BEST and ONLY RIGHT way to worship the GODS is
However you want as long as you’re respectful. Don’t feel obligated to perform daily elaborate rituals.
Sometimes it’s just as sweet to make a cup of tea and pour a little out to the god you want to have a quiet morning moment of prayer or conversation with.
There is so much joy and love to be found with the gods in the quiet spaces of your day.
Washing dishes and tidying up can be soothing and meditative if you devote it to Hestia. Caring for your plants can be a wonderful little devotional moment to Demeter, Persephone, even Artemis. Take a moment to stop in that little patch of sun streaming through your window and feel the love for Apollon swell through your chest. Instead of altars I’ve created little decorative nooks for the gods and if it involves a plant in that space I devote that plant to the god in charge of that little corner.
I hope everyone finds some small measure of peace while we distance ourselves from each other in the name of Aesclepius, and find time to think about the gods now and again. However much you worship is enough. Everything you do is enough. Your love and devotion to the gods is enough.

Hestia element associations
Fire: the hearth, candles, toasting marshmallows over a campfire, sending sparks into the sky
Water: warm honeyed tea on cold nights, a hot shower at the end of a long day, a glass of cool water when you're sick and feverish
Earth: lying on the grass in summer, listening to quiet music and laughing with friends, warm blankets on chilly nights, playing in autumn leaves
Air: warm breezes drifting in through open windows carrying music, things that smell like home

Hm. Yasha spending her first few days in mental and physical freedom with her nose in a book that will make her stronger, surrounded by plants and her friends. And then spending the remainder of that time being beaten bloodied and knocked unconscious. And smiling for the first time.
How can a character be so soft, yet so dark? So fragile, yet stronger than anyone could’ve imagined? Everything about Yasha is beautifully oppositional; it’s beautiful because her story is not about resolving these contradictions in her character, but instead about allowing herself to embrace them. Her hair is two-toned, her eyes are mismatched, her soul is soft, her body strong. And it all kinda works. What a character, man… Ashley has really given us something special with Yasha.

“Golden Theoi, Great gods with laurel wreathing your hair, I call upon your names! Come divine ones, Listen to my praise and prayers, And be welcome in this place. The new year dawns, And with it comes the trials and tribulations of everyday life. I pray that you make this year bearable, And design its course of action yourselves so that every day is marked with your love. Unionize us, oh Theoi, Make humankind a species of kindness and peace. End your feuds and cancel our wars, Bless us and help us cherish one another. Eternal gods who have seen so many years, Make this one the best yet. Fill it with miracles and signs that you are among us, Bring your presence into our lives. I pray to you and hope that if it id your will, It shall be done. Khaire, fair ones!”

a word of advice: open your windows. wash your sheets. exfoliate your legs. read a paperback. make your bed. moisturize every inch of your body. go to sleep with soft skin and sheets that smell like the wind and a mind full of words worth dreaming about
