"Unalive" is a word that needs a true meaning other than a stupid censor for "dead".

Like, "undead" refers to creatures that are scientifically dead yet have come back from death or "defeated" death by supernatural means. Vampires and zombies and the like...

But what are robots? Things that seem alive but are just running programs and simulations? Androids or Synths?

I'd say they were "unalive".

A sentience that was never truly alive by definition, yet approximates life to such a degree that humans can feel empathy and compassion for these things. They do not bleed blood, nor do they truly breathe like humans. But they are "alive" in the sense that they can be ended by pulling a plug or being shut down without being destroyed and with the ability to resume "life" as if it were never shut down at all.
