What to do if you find yourself homless- written by someone who has actually been homeless

Most important: Spend the money you have on a motel. Churches probably will not actually help and shelters can be dangerous or turn you away. At a motel you have free breakfast, access to running water, and a lockable place to sleep. Do not waste money on a gym membership like the popular version of this post says to do, YMCA memberships are like $40.

2. Contact family and friends. Now is not the time to worry about being a burden. Your survival and safety comes first and that is all that matters, anyone worth having in your life will agree.

3. Start a gofundme. Even if someone can’t offer you a place to stay, they might be willing to toss out $5 so you can eat today.

4. Libraries have free wifi. Apply to any and all jobs you can think of if you aren’t already working.

5. Any home is a good home. Even if it’s a dingy apartment in a bad neighborhood. If its cheap and you can afford it, snatch it up. 

6. Pancake mix and peanut butter are filling, cheap, and last a long time.

/hope/ is imagining a society without the state or capital. /hope/ is recognizing humans can manage themselves without them and thrive and help the world. /hope/ is recognizing food forests and guerilla gardening and community care and anti-heirarchy have been, are, and will be successful. /hope/ is recognizing humans can change and grow and find new ways of living that will be inclusive to everyone.

THAT. is hope.

what you promote is a disgusting amount of pesimism, anti-hope, and i'm frankly terrified people like you, who encourage everyone to *not* fight back against this dystopia- by insisting it is not a dystopia- exist.

I'm opening emergency commissions! After living in my flat for 3, nearly 4 years, my landlord is selling the flat so me, my boyfriend (@holocrypticdreamer), and both our cats need to find a new place to live! I have 2 months to vacate, but the housing market here moves quickly, and unfortunately I can't move away as my work keeps me here. Being openly trans and living in the UK, it's not exactly desirable to go job hunting at the minute when I know the company I'm with accepts me as I am, lol. I'll also be leaving my PayPal in my bio, if anyone feels able to send a little my way.

I think those people are vastly underestimating just how much shit humans have historically had to live through, actually.
