All goofs aside, I am very excited to see where this thing with Scorpia big crushing on Catra goes. I mean, calling them “soulmates” and Scorpia saying “my wildcat,” I don’t see how that can Not become a big deal in canon. If it doesn’t, ah well, I can definitely still enjoy the casual wlw content sprinkled in. But the potential for it to be big and impactful is right there.

As much as I love Scorpia and think scorptra could be very interesting, it’s not like I expect that to be canon/endgame/whatever. It’s very clear that if anything will be endgame, it’ll be catradora, which I’m over the moon about. Scorpia’s feelings, however, are very much canon and have to be acknowledged. Obviously, Catra doesn’t reciprocate those feelings, she’s much too focused on Adora, as well as her own goals within the Horde. But as Catra continues on this downward spiral, self-sabotage, and destroying what few connections she has with other characters, her relationship with Scorpia is going to throw that descent into sharp relief. Catra may manipulate Scorpia, use her because Scorpia’s feelings, and naivety, make it possible, and overall take advantage of her.

This is the perfect opportunity for Scorpia to stand up for herself, assert herself, and not let her relative kindness be taken advantage of. It’s a strong bit of character development, and also connects back to Scorpia’s family backstory. Her family was, frankly, a bunch of pushovers who let the Horde take over without a fight (as far as we know), so Scorpia being the one to stand up to Catra could be one thing that leads her to stand up against the Horde and do what her family didn’t before.

For Catra, Scorpia standing up to her and calling out those manipulative and toxic tendencies (also potentially Entrapta abandoning her-but that’s another meta) may be what finally makes it clear to her that, no matter what her intentions are, whatever her reasons, or trauma, what she’s doing is wrong. Well, she already knows the Horde is bad, she’s said so in canon, but this is the chance for Catra to realize that she’s, in essence, becoming just like Shadow Weaver, the woman who made her life hell, and is the source of the vast majority of her current issues. If she’s using Scorpia’s love for her own selfish ends, she’s doing essentially the same thing Shadow Weaver did. It makes it much more personal, it could be what starts pushing Catra away from the Horde, down her own path of self-improvement and recovery. And on top of all that, it allows Catra to be sent down this path from a relationship other than the one she has with Adora. One that doesn’t have the same complicated entanglements in their shared history, and encourages Catra to make and keep bonds with more people, to not make Adora the center of her universe.

One way or another, Catra and Scorpia should be a really interesting relationship to see on screen this season, especially because Scorpia’s family gave the Horde the runestone that Shadow Weaver used to gain power and lord over Catra as a child. There’s a lot that could be explored and even if it’s not this, I trust this crew to flesh out a really really interesting dynamic with these two. I cannot wait for season 2.
