The Lord John boutique on the corner of Carnaby Street and Ganton Street which initially opened in 1963, seen here with its wonderful three story high mural painted in 1967. The mural was painted by the then largely unknown pop-art collective聽Doug Binder,聽Dudley Edwards聽and聽David Vaughan.
This was the first Lord John boutique and was opened by the brothers聽Warren, Harold and David Gold. Lord John had eight shops by 1970, and grew to about 30 in the early 1970s, before being acquired by the retail group聽Raybeck.

On the 21st June 1966, 15 young women in mini skirts squeezed into an Austin Mini on a London street.
They managed to break the world record for the number of people who fitted in a Mini, which had been set by American college students a year earlier.
To top it all, the commotion attracted the attention of a Traffic Warden, who issued a parking ticket. Oh well, the cost split between 15 wouldn't have broke the bank even in 1966.
