she smiled at him as he offered to model for her. “i’d love that – and in exchange for your services as a model, i could buy you a truly disgustingly greasy new york style pizza from an american restaurant i found a few days ago. sound good ?” lana smirked at him as he vehemently denied being involved with emma. she knew him, and she knew that there was a lot more to the story than what he was telling her. “of course i will.” she agreed, and winked at him. honestly, first chance she got, she was probably going to do exactly that – but not exactly for modeling. “they can be.” lana admitted with a chuckle. she was close with the cromwells, but even she could agree with that statement. as zephyr pulled out his phone and lana read the post, she was honestly in disbelief. in fact, she giggled when she read that. “no, no way. he wouldn’t do that to me.” even though he would, and he had. “mel is definitely lying, that didn’t happen.” she blocked the phone and gave it ( shoved it ) back to him. “no. i told him i loved him right before i went to take care of you, and i just – no. lip is a lot of things but he wouldn’t do me like that.” still, lana knew that mel was trustworthy. and zephyr loved her, he wouldn’t just tell her a lie like that if he didn’t trust there was some truth behind it. “would he ?” the facade of her denial was coming down fast. it made sense. she remembered that there had been a girl walking out of the ball next to him who’d vanished after lip ran into her arms, not to mention that he had been acting weird the morning after. and the way he’d looked at her that morning had been different, it was a look with an emotion that no one had ever given her before, and now she was able to recognize – it had been pity. she felt her eyes water and her bottom lip begin to quiver. “would he ??” she repeated, looking into zeph’s eyes, praying this was just some rumor.
zephyr didn’t answer any of lana’s questions, he knew he had already crossed that line. he didn’t want to risk going any further than he already is and risk getting tagged -- sent to jail. as if this was only a friendly game of capture the flag. he only bit his lip, watching her reaction -- her emotions spiral quickly. “you know most of mel’s blog is true.” are some of the only words he offered to confirm her suspicions. he stepped forward to wrap his arms around her shoulders, pulling her in for a hug as soon as he recognized her bottom lip trembling. “i’m sorry.” he spoke softly -- although there was a part of him that hoped those words were enough for her to believe. believe that he didn’t love her, even if she loved him -- that she was TOO good for him, that part would take time. healing. and zeph was more than happy to be there for the entire process ( second thought, that might not be the best idea speaking zephyr’s track record of getting over people was at a total zero percent. but at the same time, perhaps this could offer some sort of healing on zephyr’s part as well.

"i think you’re a great model, and maybe i should start to use you as my model again.” she suggested with a laugh. “oh ! are you and emma, like, a thing ?” lana loved zephyr, that was a fact known by both of them, and she was always going to love him. she loved him so much she would’ve been happy to hear that he was seeing someone again, regardless of the mess that her own love life was about to become. at the end of the day, lana just wanted zephyr to be happy – be it with her, or with somebody else. “i did. i feel terrible about it, he was really nervous about his aunt and uncle being at the party.” and then he said he’d found a way to make himself busy. “what ?” lana asked, confused. “no, i don’t read her blog. i like her, but i don’t really read her blog. why ? was something in there ?” poor little baby bird – she had no idea she was about to get violently pushed out of the safety of her little nest of blissful ignorance.
“well i would be very happy to oblige to your wishes.” the next question made zephyr’s heart skip a beat, an almost blush grew on his face as he shook his head. “no, no, no, no. we’re just friends, nothing more. that doesn’t mean that she still needs a model for her wonderful clothing, though. maybe you can put in a good word for me.” it was obvious that zephyr did want to be more than friends with a certain ms. woods, but there was a large part of him that held back since relationships never quite worked out for him. after all, there were only two people that zephyr actively talked to from his childhood. the second just so happened to be standing in front of him. “yeah, the cromwells are a pain in the ass.” he spoke with a laugh, shaking his head. zephyr knew that would be her response, his phone seemed as if it was as the ready. he quickly pulled up mel’s blog -- a url he would ashamedly admit was in his most recent searches ( and probably his top searches as well. ) he scrolled down to the topic of the masquerade events, handing his phone over to lana. “i can’t believe he’s never told you.” a smirk sat on his face although it melted away once he realize how upset lana might actually be over this. this suddenly wasn’t just about revenge on lip.

emmaawoodss:
A blush appeared on her cheeks as she took the sunflowers from his grip and it was hard to hide this time as she wore no makeup on the way down, she knew it would just smudge on the train plus the two were going out later on that night so Emma hardly wanted to do her makeup twice in one day. “I thought you might have been busy last minute..– How did you remember these were my favourites?” She asked, gesturing to her sunflowers with a teasing grin replacing her shy smile from before. It wasn’t that she didn’t have faith in Zephyr not showing up but more like she didn’t want to get her hopes up just in case the plans fell through. Yet now she knew that she was silly to even consider that possibility.
Seeing Zephyr this time around felt different. This time around Emma knew how she felt about him and now she could admire his looks without having to justify her reasons why. The longer she took in his appearance, the more butterflies she felt in her stomach and how he made her heartbeat increase made her wonder how he did it without even realising. It didn’t help that he made the effort to even buy her favourite flowers either.
“The trip was great. It took me longer than I thought to convince my parents to let me stay at Ashcroft though…they wanted to remove me straight away when I told them about the knife incident at the last event. That’s why I left so sudden,” Emma answered him, the two falling into step together to walk outside where the ubers pull by and collect customers. It was crazy how hard Emma fought to stay at Ashcroft and how she was more scared of losing Zephyr than a murderer running around. That’s why they must say love makes you blind, right? “How was your week then? Must have been boring without me, of course.” Emma joked, not meaning it so seriously but ( secretly ) hoping that his week without her made him miss her just as she missed him.
there was a sense of pride that filled him when he noticed the blush on her cheeks -- although he pushed the thought out of his brain. they were friends -- very good friends. and zephyr knew if he tried anything that he would only ruin that. “never too busy for you.” he said, biting his lip for a split second as he gave her a grin. he quickly turned towards the exit, however, “oh, it was only a lucky guess. I almost went and picked wildflowers if i’m going to be honest.” he grinned, glancing over at her as he grabbed his phone out of his pocket, checking to see if their uber was even close. ( to his relief, it was. )
“you told them about the knife? oof, that was your first mistake.” but zephyr never understood that. the need for parents to protect their children -- or the loyalty that came from a child to their parents. he never grew up with it, and that was one of the feelings he almost envied when it came to anyone else. because no matter how hard their lives had seemed, at least they had a home to go home to. maybe zephyr’s feelings like this won’t last long as the thoughts of the adoption idea ran through his head. his attention was pulled immediately back to emma as she began to talk again.
it was hard finding out emma had just gone, not too many words had been spoken between the two since the masquerade party -- just their small disagreement ( more like emma scolding zephyr and him begging her to not be mad at him. ) his bruises were almost all since gone from then, his rib still ached but it was something he could more or less ignore. “oh it was the worst, absolutely nothing happened. you wouldn’t even believe me if i told you that it was the most boring week.” he started dramatically, checking his phone again to double check that the car pulled in front of them was in fact theirs. he lunged forward to open the door for her with a friendly grin. “who knew we needed a ms. emma woods here to make things bearable.”

a whole week -- it felt like a lifetime to zephyr. there had suddenly been no comments to how sluggish his outfits were or how he was never able to tame his hair correctly. ( maybe there were, but they weren’t from the right person so they had mean’t nothing to him. ) it really felt as if the only option for him was to greet her at the train station. it was the least he could do right, surely it was something that she would do for him. even though zephyr still hadn’t quite learned how to drive in scotland, the walk to the train station wasn’t bad. he even had enough time to stop by a flower store ( okay MAYBE he had to go a couple blocks out of his way to find one, but that is nothing he would admit out loud. anything for a friend, right? )
he had very barely made it on time, his walk much slower due to him fumbling to order an uber for the way back to campus. but alas, he was there, leaning against the wall off to the side as people began unboarding the newest train arrival from london. he scanned all the faces as they appeared, getting more and more unsettled as none of them were emma quite yet. although his ever-growing nerves settled immediately once he saw her. a smile appearing very quickly on his face as she had yet to really notice him.
as soon as their eyes met, the already big smile got bigger as zephyr met her halfway. “why wouldn’t i be here? Oh, and for you.” he said, handing over a couple of sunflowers ( to admit, they were cheaper than roses, but he was still hoping she would still appreciate them. ) “how was the trip?” he said, quickly taking her bags from her before she might complain otherwise.

As the train passed by urban areas to rural then finally Scotland, Emma found herself daydreaming through the entire journey. Her head rests against the window watching the rest of the world pass by in a blur while she tried to wrap her own thoughts up before she was back at the university. The week off to see her parents were very refreshing, seeing them getting along and not ignore each other anymore has eased Emma’s worries about them – everything was falling into place and she couldn’t remember a time when she was happier.
Another obstacle she dealt with this week was finally coming to terms with her feelings for Zephyr. It had been something Emma was brushing off for a while but having some distance between them made her realise how much she did care for him. At first, she wanted to just stay silent and try her hardest to forget about them but the longer the days dragged by, the harder it became. So, she texted Parker and now that somebody else knew it meant she can’t back out yet Emma wasn’t totally sold on the idea of telling Zephyr anything…yet?
The train came to a slow stop and the girl was forced to come back to reality, grabbing her Gucci travel bag and exiting through the door. Just as she was walking towards the exit of the building through the swarm of people who had been on the same train as her or running to catch it before it leaves, Emma glanced towards the exit and spotted somebody familiar. A small smile crept onto her face while she made her way towards him. “You’re here.”

zephyr didn’t like josh. it was obviously to anyone who happened to even look at the pair. ever since he learned about certain relations that the other had with emma, he had been put on zeph’s bad side. ( a very easy way to get on his bad side was to have any negative experiences with either emma or parker. ) and whenever the opportunity came to antagonize someone, zephyr could never quite say no. he always loved a good argument -- even a fight if things had to come to that as well. so when zephyr saw josh at an empty table, he found himself sitting across from the other. “the seat being taken implies that you have friends who would sit here. we both know that isn’t true.” the sentence sounded like he was only teasing, but the smirk on his face gave way to the hostile undertone.
OPEN STARTER !
joshua ate alone. always. without fail. it wasn’t like he had FRIENDS to share a seat with, and the few people that he might have cared about, he actively pushed away. he preferred it this way –– he could mindlessly scroll through youtube, pick up some inspiration from new dance videos, eat at his own pace, and most importantly, not be disturbed. he liked his little situation. it was regular, familiar, and he could focus on himself. with apple in hand and a full plate of a bleak-looking salad, he sat at a table in the far corner of the dining hall, headphones blocking his ears from hearing anyone else in his vicinity. but his eyes still peered over his phone, noting someone passing by his claimed little area. “LEAVE. this seat’s fucking taken,” he lies, an aggression painting his words as he gestures to the space in front of him. he doesn’t want to be interrupted.

zephyr would be lying if the bang he heard from the nearby classroom didn’t completely draw his attention. the book he was reading suddenly left abandoned on the bench he was once sitting as his legs brought him over to the closed door. he opened it for his eyes to land on cleo -- hiding behind a desk ( he assumes in an attempt to take refuge from the chemical explosion. ) there was a laugh that fell from him before he could even realize he was laughing.
chemistry was never zephyr’s strong suit, he had always favoured english over any science and math he’s ever taken. “what happened here?” he made his way over to the girl, a smirk on his face. he knew he should put on ANY sort of protection to himself but, no, he ignored every rule he’s ever learned in chemistry as he stood in front of the explosive mixture. “what chemicals did you use? what were you even attempting to make happen here?” he questioned the other. they didn’t have the most positive relationship, so whenever zephyr had a chance to tease. he was going to take it.
chemistry. more like cleo’s second home. without a single doubt in mind, she ALWAYS headed for the classroom. even in her free periods, she was always found at her desk with some sort of practical experiment in her hands. today wasn’t any different.
the blonde was dressed in her USUAL genre of attire; plaid skirts with a neatly iron shirt and a jumper thrown over the top but tucked into her skirt. whenever she was in the chemistry lab, her lab coat was draped over her and safety goggles were never far from her head or hands. gaze shifting between textbook and equipment with precision, she was sure this experiment was going to cause a bang OR bubble over. maybe she had finally perfected the case for her exam?
a look of achievement spread across her visage, palms resting flat against the surface of the desk. attention diverted for a MERE few seconds then suddenly a bang followed with a few bubbles. uh oh, this was BAD. this wasn’t supposed to happen. with her shock, she fell from her stool to the floor but didn’t let it phase her. instead she hid behind the desk just in time of another explosion.
it wasn’t deadly but safety always came first.

lana smiled melancholically at him. “yeah you were. and those were always my favorites.” she turned off the camera and looked at him. the young girl was happy to see him again, even though it made her a little nervous to be around him after their little confessional at the party. “no, it’s okay. i know that it wasn’t an ill intentioned question at all.” she said with a light shrug. “no, i haven’t. i mean, we did talk about some things, but i didn’t tell him about… y'know, our talk. i just… i don’t know, i don’t think it’s his business what i talk about with you. but i do feel guilty about just ditching him out there without an explanation. do you think i should tell him ?”
“yeah, they were? what was so great about it, was it me and my amazing modelling skills? i’m still trying to convince emma i’d be a great model. what do you think about it?” he rambled off the questions with a grin on his face. the moment they shared the night of the masquerade party was still swirling around in the back of his mind, pushed to the back unless lana was going to bring it up herself. zephyr liked to make up but he wasn’t all for apologies-- especially for something he wasn’t exactly sorry about in the first place. “you ditch him? yeah, but he found a way to make himself busy. You don’t read mel’s blog?” the question was not all innocent. zephyr KNEW lana didn’t read the gossip blog, and he knew that she had no idea about autumn and lip. but there was something in his brain that couldn’t stop the words from spilling out.

“fate?” that was a question zephyr had never really even thought about. he wasn’t sure what his opinion on the subject was. maybe there are somethings that he believed in fate about, but there were also stuff that was definitely a choice. the question really made zephyr’s head begin to spin at the question before he decided to not even answer it at all -- at least, not yet. “why do you ask? cause your light isn’t working? do you need one, i have one you can borrow -- but i’ll need it back.”
the tinted light of the setting sun covered ashcroft university in an almost lilac shimmer, painting the buildings and those who passed calixte in a rather ironically beautiful shine considering the circumstances all of them had to deal with. he had been sitting quietly in his behaviour and loud as ever in the choice of his clothes, catching the last streaks of sunlight on his skin, and staring with trance-like concentration at his own lighter. his thumb ran repeatedly and in a rapid movement across the flint wheel. there was a golden spark – there’s always a spark – but no flame. the suggestion of a defeated sigh heaved his chest and he couldn’t help but roll his eyes, his gaze thus landing on of the other students. “ do you believe in fate? “ he asked, skipping the simplicity of normal chit-chatting, skipping even the formality of a ‘ hello ‘, “ in luck? or chance? however you want to call it — or is life a series of coincidences? “

[ outgoing → zephyr ]
lip: you don't tell me what i like or what i don't like.
lip: what makes you think i'm going to take orders from you too?
zephyr: ooh scary, what happened in your childhood to make you not like authority?
zephyr: you have daddy issues or something?
zephyr: i mean, you want me to tell her? because i can.
