The tomb is in Nizamudin East, which is near Humayun’s Tomb. The tomb was built by him for his wife in 1598, he was also laid to rest in the same establishment when he passed away in 1627. It is said that marble and sandstone from this tomb was used to construct Safdarjung’s Tomb in 1753.

Ghiyas-ud-din Balban was a Turkish ruler who dominated the Delhi Sultanate and controlled surrounding regions through the Slave Dynasty during 1246 – 1266. He was remembered as a very strict and aggressive ruler who also strongly believed in justice. However, due to the lack of an efficient successor the era saw its demise, giving way to the Khilji Dynasty.

Also, known by the locals as Bhool Bhulaiya, was given the name due to its intriguing style of architecture and design. The tomb, like most monuments, is octagonal in shape with a huge single dome in the centre. It has narrow arch like entrances from all directions with the tomb of Adham Khan in the centre. It is said that, after his passing, his mother Maham Anga became distraught and passed away exactly on the fortieth day after him.

The event is attended by senior delegates of the country including the Prime Minister, President, and a chief guest from a foreign nation. Before the parade there are several rituals carried out by the President and Prime Minister to commemorate the several battalions that protect our borders and associated with the defence.

One of the many monuments within the Qutub Complex, this tomb is located right next to the very popular Alai Darwaza. The interiors of the tomb have some intricate detail that is finished with white plaster.
