SMSG #6
Hey, so this is one of my final posts for show me something good =D. I finally finished making my video!! The video features a lot of my classmates who I interviewed about bullying, facts about bullying and the social experiment. Altogether, the video is nearly 10 minutes long. I think my project went very well and I think I have achieved my goal to raise awareness about bullying and educating others. I thought I knew a lot about bullying, but I have also learned a lot of surprising facts. There were many challenges in editing my video and it required a lot of effort and time, but in the end it was totally worth it.
This week we’ve been presenting our projects to the class. There was a huge variety of (great) topics and (wonderful) presentations. I especially enjoyed the video about mini school because it gave me a new view on mini school. I presented my video yesterday and I was surprised by the great reaction I got from my classmates because I thought that they wouldn’t like it! Overall, I really liked my video and I’m proud of how much I was able to achieve during the past few months! Well, see you later!

SMSG Update #5
Hey, so this would be my fifth update now for Show Me Something Good I think? I’ve probably completed about 25-50% of my video editing so far. I have nearly all of my footage. Now, I just need to do more filming for the social experiment. I said that I would do the filming yesterday, but we couldn't due to the weather. Luckily I was able to do some filming today! I plan to do one last day of filming on Monday. I also said that I needed more footage for my interviews/survey, but I have more than enough (yay!). I plan to finish the video editing this weekend, so I will be able to just add in the additional footage. Right now I am doing research about bullying for my video. Here’s some of the facts I found:
Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year.
Approximately 160,000 teens skip school every day because of bullying
1 in 10 students drop out of school because of repeated bullying.
Peers play a major role in bullying – by either escalating or stopping it.
For my video I plan to include some facts about bullying, then the interviews and finally the social experiment (If you don’t already know, I am trying to raise awareness about bullying through this video =)). I’m really excited for this project, I can’t wait to see how this will turn out!

SMSG May.29
Hello again! So this week I actually have completed quite a bit. Even though I haven’t finished everything I planned to do this week I am making up for that. Right now i’m in the process of transferring my video footage and I will start editing that. I haven’t completed filming for the interviews/survey, but I have over half of the footage I need. I didn’t have as much time to interview people because I didn’t know we had a pro-d day, but luckily I still have a lot of time, since I gave myself a lot of freedom with the schedule. I plan to do more filming for the social experiment on Monday. I did part of the social experiment today and it went quite well (Thanks to the people who helped me with the experiment today!). I wish I could tell you what happened, but I don’t want to spoil it for you =D! This weekend I will start to make my video and once I have all my footage I will be able to finish my video! I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made this week! Well, see you next week!

SMSG #3
Hiiii. This week I made my planning calender and handed it in. I also did my topic presentation in front of the class where I presented my project and ideas. I was able to find a few people who want to be part of my social experiment! I also found people who are willing to participate in my survey!
Today I did research on bullying, bystanders and victims. Then I created my questions for my survey. Here’s the questions I will ask people:
What is your opinion about bullying?
What do you think is the cause for bullying?
What is your experience with bullying?
How do you feel when you see someone get bullied?
If you saw someone getting bullied would you intervene or walk away?
Would it make a difference whether the victim was a girl or boy or if they are rich or poor?
**Feel free to answer my questions =D
Next week I plan to conduct the survey and social experiment. I will also continue to do more research on bullying. That’s it for now! See you next week!

SMSG #2
Helloo again! This week we wrote our project proposals for SMSG. I have decided that I will conduct a survey and ask people what they would do if they saw a person get bullied. After that I will conduct the social experiment where someone will get bullied and we will see how people will react to this scenario. I will film this project and make a video to raise awareness about bullying. I can’t wait to start filming!
Right now, I am in the process of finding people to act in my social experiment (anyone interested please let me know). I need at least 2 people to help film and act as the bully or victim. I’m not sure what part I want to take for the social experiment yet. I will also make my SMSG planning calender and prepare for my topic presentation. That’s about it for now! I’ll keep you updated! Bye!

Show me Something Good
Hey, I’m starting a new project called “Show me Something Good”. Basically, I will do a project that is “meaningful” in some way to the world. I’m not sure what I want to do for the project yet, but I have a few ideas.
I've been wanting to conduct a social experiment ever since the giraffe project. I find that social experiments are very interesting and are fun to do. My only concern is that I would have to find other people to assist me during the experiment and depending on the type of experiment, it could potentially be dangerous.
Another idea would be to conduct a survey to find a way to improve a problem or to find people’s opinions on the idea. There are some questions I would be interested in finding answers for.
I have a few more ideas, but those are my two favorite ones. I can’t wait to start! Whatever I do, I think this is going to be a really interesting project!

Mission: Complete
I have finally finished editing and putting together the video! We finished our filming at school this week. At first, one of my other group members was going to do the editing, which he did, but then he had troubles uploading the files onto his computer, so I did the editing instead. Then, I realized that some of the video footage I took wasn't compatible with the editing system I used, so I had to re-film those parts. In the end I managed to put the documentary together and edit it. Now, it is complete and this marks the very last part of our project! This has been extremely fun and exciting! I hope you like our documentary and once again, thank you to everyone who took the time to read my posts!

Our last week
This week is the final week of our giraffe project and random acts of kindness. We each did an hour of volunteering for our final hour. One person helped a friend out, I did sticky note compliments (which I will put up in the school) and the other member did something else. Right now we are still filming and getting more footage. We've already finished the filming for our actual helping out, we just need to film the parts that involve us talking. I finished writing the script and Ian will be editing the video footage. It's been going well/smoothly and I hope it turns out great! Next week we will be watching everyone's documentaries, I can't wait! It has been really fun doing random acts of kindness, helping people out and making the world a nicer place! Thank you for taking the time to read my posts! Bye for now!

Nearly There
This week we did some filming at the school of us doing random acts of kindness. We also completed another 2 hours (11 done, 1 to go). During these 2 hours we did a few things. First, we went around the school's vending machines, leaving change behind in them for others. Next, we helped another group make bracelets they could sell (the group selling bracelets, choker necklaces and dream catchers for the BC Cancer Foundation). We also helped them put up posters to advertise the items they were selling.
We planned to do our last session and finish filing today, but I ended up being busy and we decided to move the date to Monday. I'm busy on Monday too, but my other group members will pick up garbage at Central Park and also possibly do some filming. I will make up for the missed session probably by writing more sticky notes to put up around the school. We still need to finish our filming, which we will do at school and at Central Park.

Giraffe Project
Yesterday, we decided to do mini acts of kindness throughout the school day to add up to another hour. Our mini acts of kindness included holding the door open, picking up any garbage we see, giving out hugs, carrying items for people with heavy loads, helping the teachers out and many more. Even though these acts of kindness aren't that big, it still makes a huge difference and helps others out. Anyone can perform acts of kindness and no matter how small an act of kindness is, it still counts for something much larger. So get out there and spread the happiness!
This week we finished watching Black Fish as inspiration for our own documentaries. It is about killer whales in captivity and how they are treated by people. It is a heartbreaking, but beautiful documentary. (I nearly cried, it was so sad). I hope we can make our documentary just as good as Black Fish. We have come up with some ideas about what we wanted to film about. I'll tell you more about our documentary soon.
We plan to finish the 12 hours and all our raw filming by Friday. Then, we will each edit a section of our mini documentary and put it all together. We will volunteer for 2 hours on either Monday or during school. We might go to a mall, pick up garbage, write sticky notes or something new. On Friday we will pick up garbage at Central Park and do some filming.

My Mistake(s)
Hello. So, for the tumblr posts, I actually messed up on them. We have actually done a total of 9 hours, not 7 hours, like I said earlier. The 2 extra hours I didn't account for were ones where I wasn't able to attend (it happened a few weeks ago). In these 2 hours, my other group members helped another group pick up garbage. I'm sorry for the mix up and confusion I might have caused, sorry.

Work in Progress
This week we did another one and a half hours of volunteering. So that would be seven hours done, and five to go. I saw another group's post and I got the idea of going to Extra Foods to help organize the shelves. One of our group members couldn't make it, so he will do a make-up session by himself. We went on Friday and finished organizing about half or a third of the store. We basically made the shelves look neat and organized the stuff on the shelves. I think the messiest was the jello section, where everything was mixed up and tossed into random places. It was actually more enjoyable and fun than I thought it would be. I think that in general, if everyone put everything back the way they found them when they go shopping, stores would look much nicer and more presentable. I feel that this is a great idea for our Random Acts of Kindness Project because it helps decrease the workload for the employees, so they can focus on more important tasks such as helping customers. So, that's all the volunteering we've done this week. We haven't got together to talk about what we will do next week, but it will probably happen on Friday again (based on our schedules).

Another One in the Bag
This week we finished another one and a half hours of volunteer work. Over the course of several breaks and lunches throughout the week, we distributed cookies to fellow students as another act of random kindness. We decided to give out cookies because it's a nice treat and sometimes people are hungry, so this seemed great. I myself, gave out holiday edition chocolate chip cookies (they were very yummy!). We were planning on completing another session today by picking up garbage at Central Park and also filming parts of our video, but one of our group members was away and the weather was poor today. It is unfortunate that we weren't able to do a session today, but I had fun distributing cookies to people. Right now we are at four and a half hours of volunteering, so we only have five and a half hours to go!

Giraffesssss
Today we did our third volunteer session (our third hour)!!!! We picked up garbage around the school and community center. Some people dump a lot of garbage on the ground instead of walking to the nearest garbage can (litterbugs!!!). It's sad to see so much litter around our beautiful community. The grounds looked much better without garbage just lying around. Last time we found a lot of unusual items. This time, I found a rusty lock, forks and a lot of cigarette buds. I think we picked up about half or three quarters of a garbage bag worth of trash in an hour. We are thinking of doing another session on Sunday and maybe each doing an individual hour to make up for the hour we missed last Friday.

Sticky Note Success
Hello! We put up the sticky notes around the school (on lockers, the walls and in bathrooms) during the last week of school (Monday). It was really fun. The sticky note compliments worked out really well. People were happy to see them and they wanted more. Since we got such a good reaction, we want to do another sticky note compliment session again, but I have run out of sticky notes. I've had a pretty hectic and busy week, so we weren't able to volunteer. We were looking at Friday for our next session, but Ian was busy working on his science project. We have been struggling to find a day when we are all available. Now, we will need to use every free day we have because we are falling a bit behind. 😕

Giraffe Project
Tumblr media
Today our group finished our second session!!!  I am so happy that we are making progress. We will try to arrange our next session soon. As planned, we wrote compliments on sticky notes as a way to brighten someone's day. I think this idea fits well for our Random Acts of Kindness Project. We originally planned to write sticky note compliments together, but Ian was sick and I had plans, so we each wrote our own sticky notes at home. We will put them up around the school sometime on Monday. I wrote about 50 sticky notes by myself today. These are some of my sticky note compliments. =D

Working???????
Unfortunately, we still haven't done any additional volunteer work. The garbage pick up at Everett Crowley was supposed to happen on Monday, but nearly everyone already had other plans. We have been struggling to find times when we can all volunteer together because we have been busy with homework or extracurricular activities. This week has been especially hectic for me because of my other commitments and teams.
I still want to write compliments on sticky notes and stick them in random places as a way to give people a boost to their day for our next session. Now, our group just needs to find a day when we are able to volunteer. It seems like many groups are also experiencing difficulties, but the challenges are just obstacles we need to overcome. I'm hoping that we can do at least one more volunteer session before winter break. I'm sorry that we haven't been able to make much progress in our giraffe project. We are trying our hardest to make things work out.
