Nil Admirari No Tenbin -Teito Genwaku Kitan- (Common Route - Chapter 2)
Hiii! I'm once again sharing my really rough translations of this game. Iâm just doing this so others can enjoy the game easier but if anyone has a problem with me sharing these or has suggestions, please let me know :D
Iâm doing this in my free time. As such, it may be a while before you get another translation. Anyways I hope this is helpful and Iâll be back with another translation hopefully soon. Please support the original game to bask in the glory of Satoiâs amazing art (ăďźžâ˝ďźžă)
A few things before:
I put Kuze as the protagâs name for translation bc thatâs her given name. This would be different if you changed her name.
TW! This game contains elements that may be uncomfortable so please proceed with caution
~Chapter 2~ Called Atonement~
After last night, I could hardly sleep and I felt heavy even when the morning came
My heart refuses to accept what happened yesterday
I wasnât very motivated to eat and I stayed in my room all the time.
Keizaburou: âMy lady, would it be alrightâŚâÂ
Kuze: âGramps, is something wrong?â
Keizaburou: âUm⌠actually, Ozaki from yesterday came here with his boss.â
Kuze: âEh!?â
Keizaburou: âThey said they wanted to apologize for yesterday, and for coming without notice....â
Kuze: â...ApologizeâŚâ
Keizaburou: âWhat would you like to do? If youâre still feeling unwell, I can tell them to go backâ
Kuze: â...No. Iâll go.â
-
???: âAhâ
As soon as we entered the reception room, Ozaki and the strange woman quickly got up from the sofa.
Tokimiya: âNice to meet you, Kuze. My name is Shiori Tokimiya, Iâm the director of the Search Department of the Imperial Library Information Asset Management Bureau.â
Kuze: âNice to meet you, my name is Tsugumi Kuze.â
Tokimiya: â...Iâll make this quickâ
Tokimiya: âIâm very sorry that Ozaki didnât read the atmosphere yesterday and was rude to you.â
Hayato: âIâm very sorry!â
The two of them lowered their heads deeply together and stayed there
Tokimiya: âTruly, I really donât know how to apologize⌠On that day, such a painful thing happened, and solicitation of all thingsâŚâ
Tokimiya: âI deeply apologize for the mismanagement of my subordinateâ
Kuze: âOh, um⌠both of you, please raise your heads. I donât mind.â
Tokimiya: âKuzeâŚâ
Kuze: âI was surprised, thatâs true⌠but itâs alrightâ
Tokimiya: â...Please take care, Iâm sure it was painful.â
Besides Tokimiya, Ozaki also smiled a little embarrassed
Tokimiya: âI knew it would be rude to ask so suddenly, butâŚâ
Tokimiya: âI thought I should apologize as soon as possibleâ
Kuze: â...I really donât mindâ
Hayato: âThatâs goodâŚâ
Tokimiya: âItâs not good!â
Looking at the two of them interacting like that, I feel sorry for them
Kuze: (Yesterday, I thought I didnât want to get involved anymore, but)
In my heart, I remember the confusion when Gramps brought me tea.
Kuze: (It might be good to listen to the story just a little longer)
Kuze: âUmm⌠If you donât mind, would you like some tea?â
Kuze: âI would like to ask you about yesterdayâs story in a little more detail.â
Tokimiya: âKuzeâŚâ
Kuze: âItâs also something that concerns my brother⌠I want to understand whatâs important.â
Tokimiya: âI understand. We will do our best to answer.â
Tokimiya opened her mouth after taking a sip of black tea as if it were clearing her throat
Tokimiya: âYesterday, I think that Ozaki went ahead and explained various things, but was there anything you didnât understand?â
I drop a lemon slice into the cup and stir it slowly with a spoon
Kuze: âI donât know, or rather I feel like canât believe itâ
Kuze: âItâs not that I doubt Ozaki or Tokimiya, butâŚâ
Tokimiya: âThatâs a normal reactionâ
Kuze: âBut⌠If that kind of thing really exists, then in a way I can understand what happened with my brotherâ
Kuze: âSudden suicide⌠I couldnât think of a reason as to whyâ
It may be a small lie. At least Hitaki was hurt by talks of my marriage
More than anything else, I donât want to think thatâs the reason as to why he acted like that.
Tokimiya: âLet me tell you a little more about Fukuro.â
Tokimiya: âWe were originally a division of the Imperial Library, whose purpose was to widely collect and store domestic and foreign books.â
Tokimiya: âTherefore, I am a public servant⌠Just in caseâ
For some reason, Tokimiya gave a wry smile.
Tokimiya: âHowever, there were a series of incidents that seemed to involve cursed books, and it was decided to become an independent special agency, which is what it is today.â
Tokimiya: âWeâre a bit like a book policeâ
Kuze: â...So thatâs itâ
Tokimiya: âHowever, because itâs such a special position, the police and some politicians who are sensitive to public opinions do not like it.
I vaguely understood the meaning of Tokimiyaâs wry smile earlier.
Tokimiya: âThis is a bit off topic, but there are many different personalities of humansâ
Kuze: âEh? EhâŚâ
Tokimiya: âI get the impression that relatively sensitive people are more likely to be affected by cursed booksâ
Tokimiya: âI donât know how to put it⌠Itâs kind of like if is one is very sensitive, and the wavelength matchesâ
Kuze: â...Wavelength?â
Tokimiya: âEven if it is a rare cursed book, there are still various typesâ
Tokimiya: âIâve seen many books, but there were times when only the relatives of the person who wrote them were affected.â
Tokimiya: âBlood ties have become that âwavelengthââ
Tokimiya: âOf course, the reader is not the only problemâ
Tokimiya: âIf very strong emotions are embedded in the book, the reader may be dragged into it without any wavelengths, and it may have an effect on them.â
Tokimiya: âSuch an incident⌠Has certainly happenedâ
The more I hear, the more I canât believe it
Kuze: (If it wasnât for Hitaki and Nabari, I might have been treated as a charlatan*...)
*Charlatan= a person who falsely claims to have a special skill/power
Tokimiya: âRegarding your younger brother, when I checked the book that was brought back yesterday, it was an author not yet in our records.â
Tokimiya: âBy the way⌠Do you remember the name âYoji Nozakiâ?â
Kuze: â...Not at allâ
Tokimiya: âIn that case, the line of Kuzeâs blood relatives or acquaintances can be ruled outâ
Tokimiya: âIt must have been yesterday that I finally got my hands on the cursed book that I got by chance, and luckily it was lying dormant in the library without being seen by anyone.â
Tokimiya: âOf course, neither your brother nor you are guiltyâ
Kuze: â...â
Come to think of it, even from an older sisterâs point of view, my younger brother Hitaki seems to have a sensitive nature.
If anything, my personality is more like my father, and Hitaki is more like my mother it seems.
Iâm still young, maybe itâs because of my age
Tokimiya: âAlso, the case of the Prime Minister Ukaiâs son that happened on the same day, was written by another author, so it seems that there is very little connection.â
Tokimiya: âEven more bad coincidencesâŚâ
Just imagining it makes me dizzy. Even if it isnât the case for all books, they have such a terrifying effect on those who read it.
Tokimiya: âThose of us at Fukuro work strictly for the purpose of âcollectionâ and âstorageâ.â
Tokimiya: âCollected books are safely stored in special archives so that they cannot be easily touched.â
Tokimiya: âOf course, as I mentioned earlier, the fact that it is an organization derived from the library is also a big factorâŚâ
Tokimiya: âThe significance of researching the mysterious existence of cursed books is also a big factor.â
Kuze: âResearchâŚâ
Tokimiya: âYes. Maybe the word research isnât exactly the right word⌠I donât know.â
Is it pompous or does it have implications?
Tokimiya: turned to me with a searching gaze.
Tokimiya: âAs for cursed books, I hope you understoodâÂ
Kuze: â...Yes⌠Just in caseâŚâ
Tokimiya: âThen, let me ask youâŚâ
Tokimiya: âKuze, do you think the author of the book your brother read should be punished?â
Kuze: âEhâŚ? AhâŚâ
I was at a loss for words and could only look at the two of them
Anxiety and fear about the existence of cursed books came first, and I didnât even think about the person who would have written it.
Tokimiya: ââBooks kill people.â Itâs a strange way of saying it, but itâs not something you can think of with common sense, is it?â
I nodded slightly
Tokimiya: âEven if a serial killer writes a novel about the main character, the author will not be punished.â
Tokimiya: âEven if someone read that book and wished for death⌠it would be extremely difficult for the law to judge.â
Kuze: â...â
Tokimiya: âIn fact, as I mentioned earlier, many government and police officials are skeptical about cursed books and our work.â
Tokimiya: âHowever, I do believe that their opinions will probably change a little again due to the incident with the Prime Ministerâs son the other day.â
Tokimiya: âWell, itâs not unreasonable. Peopleâs emotions and thoughts are too uncertain as evidence of a crime.â
Tokimiya: âHowever, as long as the incident is happening, I canât let it go unchecked.â
At that point, Tokimiya gave a wry smile and then stared straight at me.
Tokimiya: âSince your brother got involved in this way, I think Kuze probably hates cursed books now.â
Tokimiya: âYou donât want to get involved with such things⌠Itâs only natural to think soâ
Kuze: â...â
Tokimiya smiled, as if she could see through my heart
Tokimiya: âBut⌠on top of that, I would like to ask you again.â
Tokimiya: âCan you lend us your power?â
Kuze: âEhâŚ!â
Beside her, Ozaki is bowing deeply again.
Kuze: âOh, um, butâŚâ
Tokimiya: âI am aware that you are saying it is unreasonable. However, as expected, Kuzeâs power is very valuable.â
A book wrapped in flames floats in my mind
No, itâs not on fire. Itâs someoneâs feelings that sway beautifully and mysteriously.
Tokimiya: âOf course, itâs true that I came to apologize for my subordinate who canât seem to read the room.â
Tokimiya: âHowever, it is also true that I was asked to serve as Fukuroâs search director.â
Tokimiya: âIâm not saying this is a job without danger. Of course, there is also the possibility of being involved in some kind of incident.â
Tokimiya: âLooking for cursed books means touching peopleâs emotions⌠You may feel uncomfortable. But stillâŚâ
Tokimiya: âWe believe that we have a duty to see things that cannot be judged by law.â
Kuze: â...!â
Tokimiya: â...Please, consider itâŚâ
-
After Tokimiya and the other left, I shut myself up in my room again
The mansion was quiet. Of course, because of Hitakiâs incident, the servants have become quiet.
But more than that, itâs hard to breathe, as if you were trapped in a world with no exit
Meanwhile, I was looking at the sky from the window
-
Keizaburou: âMy lady, are you ready?â
Kuze: â...Whatâs wrong?â
Just like in the morning, there was the sound of Grampsâs polite knocking.
Kuze: âAhâŚâ
As soon as the door opens, a sweet, delicious smell fills the air
*Pancake picture*Â
Keizaburou: âYou havenât eaten all day today. How about having these pancakes?â
Kuze: â...Grampsâ
Keizaburou: âI understand how you feel, my lady. But you shouldnât go all day with nothing in your stomachâ
Kuze: â...Sorryâ
Keizaburou: âI donât care how much, just one biteâ
He put the plate on the table
Hitaki isnât the only one who loves pancakes cooked by Gramps
It was baked into a golden brown round shape and layered into two layers, with a large piece of butter on top. Itâs topped with a dark honey-like syrup.
Kuze: âHey⌠Grampsâ
Keizaburou: âWhat is it?â
Kuze: âEven if Iâm gone from the mansion, Iâm sure itâll be fine as long as Gramps is here.â
Keizaburou: âMy lady!?â
Kuze: âAhâŚâ
Kuze: â...Ah, I think Iâll go visit those peopleâ
Keizaburou: â...â
Kuze: âIâve been thinking about it all day today. Last night I couldnât think about it calmlyâ
Kuze: âI think Iâm relatively calm nowâŚâ
I smiled a little and put a knife in the pancakes
Kuze: âBut⌠I want to put this power to use, even if it isnât for a cool reason.
Kuze: âI⌠itâs a little hard to stay in this mansion.â
Keizaburou: âMy ladyâŚâ
Kuze: âI thought he was⌠an outcast. Even if the cause of his attempted suicide was because of that creepy book, Iâm sure I hurt himâ
Keizaburou: âIf thatâs the case⌠Itâs not just my ladyâs fault. It is also my responsibility and your fatherâs.â
Kuze: â...â
When I put the pancakes that had been baked for me many times since I was a child, a gentle sweetness spread in my mouth.
Keizaburou: â...Actually, just a little while ago, I got a call from the hospital again.â
Kuze: âSo what is his condition!?â
Keizaburou: âIt seems that his high fever⌠will not go downâ
Kuze: â...No wayâ
Keizaburou: âThe burns themselves werenât that bad, partly because they were over his clothes.â
Keizaburou: âHowever, the fever must be psychogenicâŚâ
Kuze: âHitakiâŚâ
Keizaburou: âThey said they would carefully monitor the situationâ
Kuze: â...Alrightâ
I look at my plate. How many times have I eaten these pancakes with Hitaki?
Kuze: âGramps. I have a lot of emotions right nowâŚâ
Kuze: âThe feeling of wanting to make amends with Hitaki and the feeling of wanting to help those peopleâŚâ
Kuze: âA feeling of wanting to run away⌠To somewhere thatâs not hereâ
Kuze: âIs that cowardly?â
Keizaburou: âNo⌠noâŚâ
Gramps shook his head a lot
Kuze: â...â
There was one more thing- a real intention
Now that my family is in this state, if I go to work, I can at least cover my own food expenses
Keizaburou: âI understand how my lady feels⌠And I have no right to stop you.â
Kuze: âGrampsâŚâ
Keizaburou: âBut⌠Thatâs right. With my lady gone and Hitaki in the hospital⌠Itâll be a little⌠Lonely⌠No, nevermindâŚâ
Gramps hastily pulled out a handkerchief from inside of his jacket and wiped his eyes.
Keizaburou: âPlease⌠Let my lady decide. If anyone objects, itâs okay, Iâll take care of it then.â
- - - *Kuze CG*
Hitaki and I are very similar
Hair color, eye color, chin shape. Itâs a face that looks like it got half of its characteristics from its father and mother.
Flashback Tokimiya: âWe believe that we have a duty to see things that cannot be judged by law.â
Kuze: â...Hitakiâ
My only brother by blood.
Hitaki read what was on my desk.
Maybe if fate had been just a little bit different, I might have been the one who was engulfed in flames.
No⌠If it were me, I might have felt uneasy and threw the book away. Then something like thisâŚ
Kuze: ââŚâ
I burst into tears. This is a waste of time.
No matter how many assumptions you make, you canât turn back time.
Kuze: âHitaki. I really want to get out of this mansion.â
Kuze: âWhen you get out of the hospital⌠Youâll be angry.â
Kuze: âThe truth is, Iâm still confused and scared. ButâŚâ
Kuze: âBut if I can find such a book with this strange power of mine⌠There will be fewer people who suffer like you.â
-Snip, Snip-
Kuze: â...Really, really, Iâm scared to get involved in something like that. Remembering you from that time⌠itâs scary, butâŚâ
Kuze: âBut right now, I think this is what I can do⌠Please understandâ
Kuze: â...SorryâKuze: â...Sorry, Hitakiâ

Nil Admirari No Tenbin -Teito Genwaku Kitan- (Common Route - Chapter 1)
Hiii! This is my first time sharing translations and they're probably not the best that one could do since my Japanese is very lacking. But I really love this game and noticed that no other translations had been posted in years. I'm just doing this so others can enjoy the game easier but if anyone has a problem with me sharing these or has suggestions, please let me know :D
I'm doing this in my free time and as of posting, I'm still working on chapter 3 of the common route. As such, it may be a while before you get another translation. Anyways I hope this is helpful and I'll be back with another translation hopefully soon. Please support the original game to bask in the glory of Satoi's amazing art (ăďźžâ˝ďźžă)
A few things before:
The green text is what I think to be the right choice to stay on a good ending.
I translated the dialogue after both selections and if the rest is the same dialogue, this symbol (â) indicates the start of repeated dialogue.
I put Kuze as the protag's name for translation bc that's her given name. This would be different if you changed her name.
TW! This game contains elements that may be uncomfortable so please proceed with caution
~Chapter 1~ Midnight Visitor~
Kuze: (...Hitaki? Iâm so glad, heâs fine)
When I tried to run to him, he ran away
Hitaki: âWhy didnât you say anything? You were hiding itâ
Kuze: âWaitâŚnoâŚâ
Hitaki: âSister doesnât like me. Thatâs why⌠youâre so mean to meâ
Kuze: âWhat are you talking about!? Youâre wrong!â
Hitaki: âI hate you sister! I wonât believe you anymore!â
Kuze: âHitaki!!â
-
Keizaburou: My lady! Are you alright!?
There was a familiar voice, and a large gentle hand. I blinked several times, while being supported by Gramps
Kuze: â...Gramps? Donât tell me, I fell asleep? I had such an awful dreamâŚâ
Kuze: âHitakiâŚâ
Iâm too afraid to say it, I bite my lip.
But- The first thing to reach my ears, were words of affirmation.
Keizaburou: ââŚUnfortunately, itâs not a dream.â
Kuze: âItâs not⌠a dreamâŚ?â
Keizaburou: âPlease calm down, My lady. Hitaki was just taken to the Teito University Hospital
Kuze: âEhâŚ!â
Keizaburou: âLuckily, there are no life threatening injuries. Just burnsâŚâ
Kuze: âLies!!â
Kuze: âYouâre lying! That child⌠Hitaki, doing that kind of thingâŚ!â
Keizaburou: âMy deepest apologies. Itâs not⌠a lieâ
I felt like I was going to cry at any moment, my body stiffened when I heard that voice and expression
Keizaburou: âIf it was a lie⌠How good that wouldâve beenâÂ
Kuze: âGrampsâ
Keizaburou: âIâm so sorry! Iâm so sorry! I was there and yet⌠Young Master HitakiâŚ
Keizaburou: âI donât know where to begin apologizing⌠If something could replace Hitaki-samaâs pain, then Iâd like you to give it to me in place of himâŚâ
Kuze: âThatâsâŚâ
My head is spinning. I still feel like Iâm having a bad dream, I donât even know what to think
Keizaburou: âWhy⌠Hitaki-sama like thatâŚ
Keizaburouâs words made my eyes go dark
Kuze: â...Grampsâ
Kuze: âPerhaps⌠itâs my fault?â
Keizaburou: âMy lady?! Thatâs not true!â
Kuze: âBut, he⌠he said he hated meâŚâ
The corners of my eyes get hot and I canât breathe properly.
Kuze: âI donât want to think that either. But other than that, I canât think of any other reason as to why he would try to commit suicide.
Keizaburou: âTh- ThatâsâŚâ
Kuze: âMy grades have always been excellent, and in my lessons⌠I was praised by the teachersâŚâ
Kuze: âOr are you worried about something that we donât know about?â
If so, I couldnât wipe away the shamelessness from being noticedÂ
Kuze: âI⌠What should I do?â
It was when tears were about to overflow and I closed my eyes tightly.
Maid: âMy lady, Iâm terribly sorry to disturb you at this hour, um⌠you have a guest.â
Keizaburou and I immediately look at the clock in the room
Itâs already 1:00 AM. Not normal for a visitor to come at this time.
Keizaburou: âYou fool! Donât let guests through at this hour! My lady is very tiredâŚâ
Maid: âTh-thatâs⌠They said they were sent by Nabari YutakaâŚâ
Kuze: â...Nabari Yutaka?â
Yutaka used to live in this house as a student
Kuze: (If Iâm not mistaken, he must be working at a library or book facilityâŚ)
Keizaburou: âI donât want to doubt you, but are you sure of their identity? Itâs not the time to visit someoneâs house.â
Maid: âIt doesn't seem like itâs the police, but they said they wanted to talk about Hitaki-sama as soon as possible.â
Keizaburou and I look at each other in shock.
Kuze: âAbout HitakiâŚ? What kind of relationship do they have with YutakaâŚ?â
Keizaburou: âI have no ideaâŚâ
Maid: âWhat would you like me to do? It might be better for me to send them back after allâŚâ
Keizaburou: âAh, no. Letâs listen to what they have to say. For the time being, please show them to the reception room.â
Maid: âUnderstood.â
After the servant leaves, Gramps lets out a big sigh.
Keizaburou: â...Anyways, I should go listen to themâ
Kuze: âWait, Iâm going tooâ
Keizaburou: âYou shouldnât, my lady must be tired.
Kuze: âItâs okay now. And now that thereâs no Hitaki or Father, I should be the one to welcome guestsâ
Keizaburou: âTh-thatâs true butâŚâ
Kuze: âIt has something to do with Hitaki, right?â
Kuze: âIâm alright. Letâs go.â
-
Then, when I went to the reception room with Gramps, what caught my eye wasâ
???: âAh, Iâm sorry we came at such a late hour.â
???: â...Helloâ
The uniform was unfamiliar. Itâs different from the police, but he has something like a cane on his waist
He looks a little older than me, but he looks like heâs still a student.
Keizaburou: âAh, um? Who are you? I donât think youâre from the police?â
Hayato: âOh, my apologies for the delay. My name is Hayato Ozaki. Iâm from the Imperial Library Information Asset.â
Akira: â...Of the same, Iâm Akira Kougami.â
â
Kuze: âThe Imperial⌠LibraryâŚ?â
Kuze: âOh, umm⌠Iâm sorry, but what kind of job is that? What does it have to do with HitakiâŚ?â
Hayato: âTsugumi-san, was it?â
Kuze: â!?â
Suddenly my name was called, and I reflexively backed away.
Even though the situation was serious, it was my first time that a man close to my age had called my name face-to-face, and I was filled with shame.
Kuze: âMy name⌠whyâ
Hatato: âI asked Nabari-sanâ
Kuze: âAh⌠ah, thatâs right⌠Iâm sorryâ
Hayato: âItâs alright, you donât have to be so nervous. We didnât come to arrest you, nor did we come to harm you.â
Hayato: âI just have to explain a few things, so if you would give me your time.â
Hayato: âI know itâs disrespectful at a time like this, but every minute countsâ
His expression and voice are both serious
Kuze: âWhat⌠is thatâŚ?â
Hayato: âI promise you that we are not suspicious people. Just in case, this is the national sealâ *
*Seal picture* They both pulled out their notebooks from their pockets. A feather-like crest on navy blue leather
When I turned it over further, I found their names, the organization name, and what seems to be their addresses in detail.
Hayato: âHowever, I donât think there are many people who have seen this sign itself, so the credibility is a bit lacking.â
Gramps and I look at each other again.
Kuze: (He says heâs an acquaintance of Yutaka and his identity seems to be certain, so it might be a good idea to ask him about it.)
Kuze: â...I understand. Please take a seat.â
Kuze: âGramps, please bring a cup of tea for the guests.â
Keizaburou: âOf course, my lady.
Kuze: âThat being said, Iâm nervousâŚâ
Even though Iâm here on behalf of the head of the family, to be in the same place with two men who arenât my family at a late night like this.
If an etiquette teacher at the all girlsâ school found out, I would be severely punished.
I really wanted to talk about Hitaki, but I couldnât say a word until the tea was served.
Hayato: âUm, are we that scary?â
Kuze: âEh!?â
Hayato: âYou been looked down as to not make eye contact for awhile nowâ
Kuze: âOh no! I didnât mean to do thatâŚâ
Akira: âHey Hayato, if you just had an accident with your brother, you wouldnât be able to talk brightly, would you?â
Hayato: â...Yeah, youâre rightâ
Hayato lowered his head
Hayato: âIâm sorry, I wasnât thinking. I got a little too impatientâ
Kuze: âNo, itâs okay.â
Kuze: (Thatâs right, itâs not time to be nervous. I have to be firm.)
Kuze: âUm⌠Ozaki-san and Kougami-san, are you friends of Yutaka-san?â
This time, it was their turn to look at each other
Akira: âAn acquaintance, heâs a colleague. Iâm working in the same workplace.â
Hayato: âHey Akira, Iâm beginning to feel like Nabari-san didnât explain anything about his work at all.â
Akira: âDonât worry about itâ
Kuze: âIs that Nabari-sanâs job? Some time ago, I heard that he was doing book research at some facility.â
Hayato: âAh, this is no good. Weâll have to start from the beginningâ
Kuze: â?â
Hayato: âUm, in other words, we and Nabari-san are part of an organization that manages book with intense emotions called âcursed booksâ
Kuze: â...ehâ
Akira: âHey, youâre gonna start from there? Isnât it more confusing?â
Hayato: âI hate going about it in a roundabout way.â
Hayato: âThis isâ
*Book picture* Hayato puts a slightly old book on the table
Hayato: âThis is a little old⌠a handwritten Japanese bound book. Recently, they have decreased considerably.â
I couldnât see the connection to Hitaki at all, and unintentionally frowned.
Hayato: âYou wonât believe it right away, but books like this have an impact on the people who read them.â
Kuze: â...Eh?â
Hayato: âWe think that your brother-â
Kuze: Wait!? Is there a book?â
I suddenly remembered that Hitaki was holding a book.
Akira: âThis phenomenon seems to have existed for a long time, but there are not too many old ones left because they were burned out of fear.â
Akira: âTo put it simply, itâs like, âthe strong feelings and thoughts of the person who wrote the book remain in the bookâ.â
Hayato: âIt doesnât seem to happen at all in printed books, so I think itâs important that itâs handwritten.â
They donât look like theyâre making fun of me.
However, everything I hear is unbelievable, and I canât keep up with my thoughts.
Akira: âHey, look at her face.â
Akira: âMaybe weâre not very good at explaining things. I should have brought Tokimiya-san after all.â
Hayato: âIt canât be helped! Tokimiya-san and Hisui are elsewhere!â
After shouting, he shrugged his shoulders slightly.
Hayato: âHmmm, you still donât believe meâ
Kuze: âWell, thatâs not the caseâŚâ
Hayato: âIn any case, very strong human emotions permeate the book and affect the person who reads it.â
Kuze: âThatâs⌠I understandâŚ. Maybeâ
Hayato: âI will keep explaining.â
Hayato: âWe are in charge of finding those things. Nabari-san is a little different, but he studies themâ
Kuze: â...I didnât knowâŚâ
Akira: âI donât think he was trying to hide itâ
Akira: âUntil recently, it was a relatively unspectacular job, so I think you thought that even if I explained it, it wouldnât make sense.â
Kuze: âUntil recently?â
Hayato: âAs I said earlier, the current mainstream is already letterpress printingâ
Kuze: â...Yes, youâre right.â
I suddenly remember the inside of the bookstore earlier in the day
Certainly, all the books lined up must have already been printed.
Hayato: âMajor publishers have basically moved to letterpress Western bound books, and even small publishers hardly support handwritten books.â
Hayato: âTherefore, if it is a book that is handwritten and bound in Japanese style, it is probably from the old days that have survived.â
Hayato: âIf itâs new, itâs either brought into bookstores in the form of a private publication.
Hayato: âOf course, you can imagine that it wonât be published in such a large quantity, right?â
Kuze: â...The one and only book in this worldâŚâ
Hayato: âThatâs right. âCursed booksâ is a phenomenon confirmed only in such rare booksâ
Hayato: âHowever, incidents that are thought to be caused by cursed books have happened one after another.â
Kuze: â...Is that so?â
Hayato: âActually, just today⌠there have been two casesâ
Kuze: â!?â
Hayato: âYour younger brother⌠and one other personâŚâ
Hayato: âSon of the current Prime Minister, Shozo Ukai tried to commit suicideâ
Kuze: âEh!?â
I cried out unintentionally
Akira: âHuh? Do you know each other by any chance?â
Kuze: âNo⌠itâs notâ
Kuze: âHowever, this afternoon, when I was waiting for my car when I was out shoppingâŚâ
That evening, Hayato and Akira looked at each other when I talked about the journalist-like men who passed by.
Akira: âOhh, thatâs right. Thereâs no doubt about the time.â
Kuze: âNo wayâŚâ
Akira: âSudden suicide on the same day, and your younger brother and the Prime Ministerâs son are relatively close in age.â
Akira: âI thought it might have something to do with it, so I decided to visit you late at night and I apologize for the inconvenience.â
Akira: âAlso, if your younger brotherâs book was a cursed book, thereâs a possibility that there will be new victims if we donât collect it quickly.â
Kuze: â...Is that soâ
Hayato: âFor the time being, Iâll end the explanation here. I would like to check if the real thing remains after thatâ
Hayato: âWhat do you think? Was there a book by your brotherâs side?â
Kuze: â...Oneâ
Flames blaze brightly in my mind. Definitely heâŚ
Kuze: âItâs just as Ozaki-san said. He⌠he had a book.â
Hayato: âIs that true!?â
Akira: â...Just as we thoughtâ
Kuze: â...Could you wait a minuteâ
Kuze: âActually⌠Iâm embarrassed, but at that time, I immediately lost consciousness.â
Hayato: âThatâs to be expected.â
Kuze: âCalling the doctor and cleaning were all arranged by the steward.â
âring, ding~â
Keizaburou: âMy lady, how are you?â
I shook the bell on the table lightly and Gramps came right away.
Kuze: âIâm sorry for calling you suddenly.â
Kuze: âYou see, Hitaki was holding a book at that time.
Keizaburou: âA book? Ohh, come to think of itâŚâ
Hayato: â!â
Akira: â...â
The expression on their faces shows even more anticipation. I took a deep breath and asked timidly.
Kuze: âWhere is it?â
Keizaburou: âFor the time being, Iâve left it in Hitaki-samaâs room, but itâs just a little burnt.â
Hayato: âItâs okay, thatâs fine!â
Kuze: âCan you bring it now?â
After Gramps left, there was a strange silence in the room.
The expression on their faces is full of hope.
Kuze: (...How can that happen in a book)
But honestly, my heart is beating a little easier
I donât want to think that it was my fault Hitaki was cornered like that.
Hayato: âUm, so as a continuation of what I said earlierâ
Kuze: âYes?â
Hayato: âIs it possible that your younger brother and the son of Prime Minister Ukai are acquaintances?â
Kuze: â...Acquaintances?â
Hayato: âI heard that the Prime Ministerâs son is currently attending Teito University.â
Hayato: âAlso, look⌠I wonder if there is a lot of interaction between nobles and politicians.â
Kuze: âAh, my father would probably know about Prime Minister Ukai, but I donât remember hearing anything like that from my brother.â
Kuze: âOf course, I donât know all of his friendships, but if itâs someone like that, I think he would tell the family.â
Hayato: âYouâre rightâ
Akira: âWell, Hayato, it might be a bad coincidence. Itâs just a bad coincidence.â
-knock-
Keizaburou: âThank you for waiting, My lady. Here is the book.â
After a while, Gramps came back. But the moment I saw that book in his hand-
Kuze: âAhhh-!?â
I immediately crouched down to escape from the flames.
*Glowing book picture* The book is on fire.
Hayato: âHey!?â
Akira: â!?â
Keizaburou: âMy lady!?â
Kuze: âGramps! The book⌠The book is on fire! Are you okay!?â
Keizaburou: â...Huh?â
Kuze: â...Eh?â
Gramps holding the book doesnât look in pain at all, and the other two are looking at me suspiciously.
Kuze: âGramps? Because that book, itâs on fireâŚâ
I rubbed my eyes again. Without a doubt, the book in his hand is engulfed in bright vermillion flames.
Kuze: â...Itâs not burning?â
The expressions of the three of them fuel my anxiety even more.
Kuze: (Is it just⌠me? What happened to me)
The book in Keizaburouâs hand continues to burn silently
Keizaburou: âMy lady? UmmâŚâ
Keizaburouâs caring gaze pierced through
Kuze: âI-Iâm sorry⌠I reallyâŚâ
Kuze: âGramps, isnât it hot? Canât you see the flames?â
Keizaburou: âNo, no, umm⌠My lady, Iâm not lying.â
Kuze: â...What a lie⌠IâŚâ
It was when I bit my lip in reluctance
Akira: â...Huhâ
Akira: âKuze-san, maybe youâre the same as Nabari-sanâ
Hayato: âEh!?â
Akira: âNo, itâs a bit of a coincidence, but it doesnât look like sheâs lying.â
Kuze: âWha⌠Nabari-san and I are⌠the same?â
Hayato: âI see, I get it!â
Kuze: âAh, umm⌠that meansâŚâ
Akira: âThe book is not on fire. Please take a good look.â
Hearing Kougami-sanâs words, I cautiously stare at the book again.
Kuze: â...Itâs shining?â
The expression may actually be slightly different
Light of the same color as the flames oozes out from the book, giving it the appearance of burning.
Hayato: âIâm surprised. There is such a thingâ
Akira: âIs Nabari-san a relative?â
Still unable to understand the intention of their words, I answered
Kuze: âNo, itâs not like that. Just because he lived here as a student.
Akira: âThe fact that youâre so surprised now means that you couldnât see it before, right?â
I shook my head repeatedly
Kuze: âBoth my brother and I love books, and we read them almost every day.â
Kuze: âBut⌠I couldnât see anything like this at all.â
Akira: âItâs only natural that you couldnât see itâ
Akira: âIn the first place, cursed books themselves are extremely rare, and ordinary books donât have that kind of aura.â
Kuze: â...Aura?â
Akira: âOh, Iâm sorry, thatâs what we call the light that Kuze sees.â
Akira: âAnd that light is the intensity of the emotions that dwell in the book.â
Akira: âAlthough we canât see it at all.â
Kuze: â...Is that so?â
Akira: âThe only person here who can see auras is Nabari-san.â
---Aura. I timidly glanced at the book again. Its flames are shaking.
Unfortunately, it didnât seem to be a mistake
Kuze: â...I understand. But, why all of a sudden?â
Akira: â...â
Akira: âTrauma, probablyâŚâ
Kougami-san seemed to be at a loss for words, so he paused for a moment and looked at me.
Akira: âI wonder if itâs because of your brotherâs incident.â
Kuze: âEh!? AhâŚthatâŚ?â
Akira: âKuze-san, you were present at the scene of your brotherâs incident, werenât you?â
Kuze: â...Yesâ
Akira: âIf you had lost consciousness, I think you would have received a considerable mental shock. It is in such circumstances that oneâs abilities may blossom.âÂ
Kuze: âUh, that kind of thingâŚâ
Akira: âI have a colleague, he has a slightly different power than Kuze-san and Nabari-san.â
Akira: âHe, too, was involved in an accident, and he said that from then on he was able to use his powers.â
It was just a book, and suddenly it was hard to believe.
But the book on the table certainly emits a mysterious light.
I take a sly look, even if they try to trick me, I can trust Gramps.
As far as I can see from Keizaburouâs reaction, Iâm the only one who can see it.
Kuze: â...Huh? The⌠the other books in the house?â
Kuze: â...Um! Yes, Iâm sorry! If itâs not too much trouble, could you come with me to the library!?â
Kuze: âI want to see if there are any other dangerous books like that there!â
Hayato: âYes, of course.â
Hayato: âHowever, even if there are other books that appear to be on fire, do not open them all of a sudden.â
Kuze: â...Yes. I understandâ
-
Hayato: âIt seems like this is the only book thatâs suspicious.â
Gramps, Ozaki-san, and I looked around the library, Hitakiâs room, and other places where we could find books
But I didnât find any suspicious books.
Kuze: âAh, Iâm sorry⌠To think Iâve dragged you around for no reasonâŚâ
Hayato: âThereâs no need to apologize, it was only right that we check. Besides, not all Japanese bound style books are cursed.â
Kuze: âThatâs rightâŚâ
Hayato: âThank you for your hard work and cooperation.â
Akira: âHayato, this author⌠thatâs an unfamiliar name, isnât it? Is it a personal publication?â
Kougami-san said while looking at the book Hitaki was reading
Hayato: âI guess. But the book itself looks a little old, so itâs possible that itâs an author who didnât sell well at the time. Letâs go back and look at the records a bit more.â
Akira: âWell either way, Iâm glad no one else read it until now.â
Kuze: â...Oh, thatâsâ
I suddenly remembered how I was the one organizing the library
Kuze: âActually, just recently, I started organizing the archives I mentioned earlier.â
Kuze: â...Itâs my fatherâs bad habitâ
âHe likes books, so he buys whatever he can find, but we canât seem to keep up with reading so we just put them in the library.â
Akira: âAh, there are people who are satisfied just by buying thingsâ
Kuze: â...Is that soâ
Actually, there was another reason. I thought for a moment that there might be something in the archives and storehouses that could be exchanged for gold.
Kuze: âSo, since it has increased quite a bit, I thought Iâd organize it a bitâŚâ
Kuze: âI kept the old ones in my roomâ
Kuze: âThat⌠that kidâŚâ
I regret it so much
Kuze: âIf⌠I hadnât carelessly left the book in my roomâŚâ
Hitaki would have escaped such a fate
Hayato: â...I see. I got the gist of it. As I explained earlier, handwritten Japanese-bound books are rare these days.â
Hayato: âFrom a personal collection⌠This isnât the first time that a cursed book has been found in a place that the person has already forgotten about.â
Hayato: âSo itâs wrong for you to blame yourself.â
Kuze: â...ehâ
With a straight gaze, my body stiffened.
I feel relieved and at the same time sorry for making everyone worry
Kuze: âThank youâ
Hayato: âYouâre welcomeâ
He smiled, and this time, embarrassment welled up.
My emotions are changing so fast, I canât help but feel restless
Kuze: âEven so⌠Itâs scary that you can do such a thing just by reading a bookâŚâ
Hayato: âThatâs right. Thatâs why weâre desperately looking for suspicious booksâ
Hayato: â...â
Akira: âHayato?â
Hayato: â...Kuze-sanâ
Kuze: â...Ozaki-san? Um, whaâŚâ
After thinking for a while, Ozaki-san stares at me with a stern look
Hayato: âUmâ
Kuze: âYes?â
Hayato: âI apologize for the sudden request, but Kuze-san, would you like to become a member of Fukuro?
Kuze: âEh!?â
Akira: âHey!?â
Hayato: âAh, Fukuro is something like a nickname we made for the Imperial Book Information Asset Managementâ
Hayato: âAs I told you at the beginning, Iâm still a national civil servant, and we have an apartment style dormitory in Sendagiâ
Hayato: âThe uniform is provided, and I think the salary is reasonable.â
Kuze: âWait a minute, umâŚ!?â
Hayato: âI want you.âÂ
Kuze: âWhat!?â
Those sudden words made my fingertips heat up in an instant.
Kuze: âWh-what are you sayingâŚâ
Hayato: âAh! Thatâs not what I meant! Itâs my fault!! What I want is your power!!â
Kuze â...UhâŚâ
Akira: âIâm very sorry, my colleague is too straightforward. In other words, we would like for Kuze-san to lend us the power to see that aura.â
Hayato: âYes, thatâs right! That power is really useful!â
Hayato: âBecause books donât move, talk or assert themselves, our job is to basically gather information and search for places where books can be found.â
Hayato: âBut for us and the people at the bookstores, we at least canât judge just based on appearances.â
Hayato: âTherefore, when a new handwritten Japanese bound book enters a bookstore, it is supposed to be brought back and checked by Nabari-san⌠Basicallyâ
Hayato: âHowever, not all stores and people are cooperative, and there may be things that are hidden.â
Hayato: âLuckily, or rather unfortunately⌠If someone is affected, itâs possible for them to come to pick it up like tonight.â
Hayato: âThatâs after the âvictimâ has already appearedâ
Kuze: â...â
Hayato: âThere is a possibility that such a dangerous book is still buried somewhereâ
Hayato: âBut with that power, you can tell.â
Kuze: âYes, that may be trueâŚâ
Akira: âI wonder, Kuze-san, did you know that Nabari-san has a weak heart?â
Kuze: âEh? Yes⌠Thatâs what Iâve heardâ
Akira: âSo he canât walk outside, go on long walks, or run.â
Hayato: â...I donât think itâs hard work, but I should add that itâs basically a job where youâre outside all dayâŚâ
Kuze: âAll day longâŚâ
Hayato: âThatâs why if Kuze-san joins Fukuro, I think the chances of finding cursed books will increase.â
Hayato: âIt might be painful because of your brotherâs incident. But if you join us as soon as possible, the number of victims might be reduced accordingly.â
Hayato: âBesides, itâs nice that you seem to like books. I wish I had love for booksâ
Kuze: â...â
Hayato: âWhat do you think? Would you like to join Fukuro?â
Kuze: âOh, thatâŚâ
I knew too well that they werenât making fun of me.
I also realize that this strange power might be useful.
ButâŚ
â I think it is impossible
Kuze: Hm⌠I donât think itâs possible, to be honestâŚâ
When I came to my senses, I answered yes.
â (Repeated dialogue)
â Give me time to think
After some thought, I replied
Kuze: â...Iâm very sorry. Could you give me some time to think?â
â Hayato: âKuze-sanâŚâ
Kuze: âItâs not that I donât want to cooperateâŚâ
Kuze: âI can see that you both are serious about your work.â
Kuze: âBut⌠To be honest, Iâm still confused about my brotherâŚâ
Hayato: âWell⌠Thatâs to be expected. Iâm sorryâŚâ
Hayato: âItâs not like Iâm asking you to come now, or Iâll ask you to start tomorrow. I just thought that the sooner the better.â
Kuze: â...I understand. I will consider it.â
Hayato: âThank you very much! Since weâre here, we will take care of the book from now on.â
Ozaki-san puts away the book
Hayato: âThank you very much for your cooperation today.â
Akira: âThank you very much for your cooperation today.â
The two deeply bowed their heads and left the reception room.
-
Kuze: â...Haaaaâ
Looking at the clock with a sigh, the hands are already at 3:00 AM. Some people call it night, and some people call it morning. Itâs that kind of time.
I sat at my desk and stared blankly out the window, reflecting on a day that was too surreal.
Fighting with Hitaki about my marriage.
Hitaki suddenly trying to commit suicide.
Furthermore, the cause seems to be a suspicious book.
And that- I was invited to the job of searching for those suspicious booksâŚ
Kuze: âHitakiâŚâ
If itâs true, I want to rush to the hospital right now to talk to him. However, they said that until his condition is stabilized, he would not be allowed to have visitors.
Kuze: âSuch a strange powerâŚâ
Flashback Hayato: âIt might be painful because of your brotherâs incident. But if you join us as soon as possible, the number of victims might be reduced accordingly.â
I cast my eyes on the bookshelves in my room
I have several books bound in Japanese style, but none of them show a strange aura.
Kuze: âI donât want anything to do with thatâŚâ
I could see their enthusiasm. I would also like to cooperate if possible.
But
-
If I close my eyes, the flames enveloping Hitaki emerge so vividly
Kuze: â...I donât want to see itâ
-
I fell hard onto the bed
-
(That's the end of chapter 1 of the common route!)
