i dunno if this is a dumb question but how exactly do you go about prayer for Lucifer? I wanna pray to him but I dunno how I should go about it if that makes sense?
hello hello!
prayer is as complicated or as simple as you'd like to make it. it can be elaborate with altars and incense and music or as simple as closing your eyes and saying a few words. that answer, however, doesn't feel very helpful. so!
the prayer itself, however, depends on you. i tend to divide them into two. there's prayer of praise and prayer of need. prayer of praise is essentially praising lucifer (also prayer of worship) for things and then prayer of need is like a petition where you address your needs and ask for his help.
if i were you, i'd want to know what is that you're wanting to say to him. do you want to thank him? do you want his help? try to define why you're wanting to reach out to him and then simply say that. one thing about lucifer that i find is that he prefers it clear-cut and straightforward. if you're not sure, i feel like he'd want you to take the time to cut away the nonsense rather than to just start saying things hoping you'll land on the 'right' thing. he's a god of the in-between, he has no right or wrong. all he needs to is to know that you're sure. in my experience, he does not like hesitation. but that also means he extends patience. he wants you to be sure. he wants you to see all your options. not just what others have told you. he wants you to make sure that you know what it is you want.
i tend to start my prayers with "Lucifer, Lord of ___" and depending on what aspect of him i want to address then i'll sub in whatever. so, lord of light, knowledge, knowing, the air, the morning star, etc. and then go off from there. i do this because it's proper. most prayers begin with naming the god they're addressed to. here, top of the dome:
lucifer, lord of light i want to thank you for this day. thank you for illuminating my path. thank you for your guidance, your patience, and your kindness. i ask you to continue guiding so i may continue following. praise be to you.
and that sounds pretty christian, i know. i come from a christian background and that's just how i know how to pray, haha! if you'd like, perhaps research roman prayer formats as lucifer has origins in the roman celestial pantheon. write out a few prayers to get the feel for it. it can be just a few lines. it can just be: "lucifer, thank you."
you don't even have to SAY your prayers. you can write them down and keep them next to your altar or keep them in a book, your phone, etc. one thing i hated about prayer in the church™ was that it always felt like a performance. like you had to pray the best. it felt gross to hear, honestly. because, to me, prayer isn't like that at all.
prayer is a quiet voice between you and the god you love. and that god wants to hear from you.

using my art which by the way are pieces i made in worship to the being that they're depicting ... as inspiration of your roleplay muse is incredibly incredibly disrespectful.
they are gods. the art i make is an act of worship. 10 years of curses and hexes upon you.

do you know how it feels to hover in between? to be named darkness when you were created for light? to be blamed for lies when you sought truth? do you know how it feels to fall when you were made for flight? perhaps — oh, perhaps then you might understand. all i wanted to know was — why.

religion has been shared since people have been sharing with one another. gods have been borrowed and re-contextualized since forever. trade, colonization, and influence of power also included the spread of religion and the introduction of new gods into old belief systems.
isis is a good example where she was originally worshiped in egypt and worship of her spread into the greco-roman world. she was worshiped alongside the greek and roman gods. hermes and thoth were merged into one god. you will also find that some gods even have overlapping attributes that would make incorporation pretty easy, they just saw it as another face of the divine. hermes and mother mary are two that do this, imo.
a more "recent" version of this is jesus ... yanno, from the bible. he can and has been be transmuted into various beliefs and faiths and incorporated into many faith systems even outside of christianity. he's a figure in islam and christianity began as a sect of judaism. he's also pretty comparable to other figures across faiths. his traditional myth, even, has been changed so some believe he went traveling across the world where the bible doesn't have him leaving at all. i wouldn't be at all surprised if, during the spread of christianity, there were folks who worshiped both their traditional pagan gods and jesus and did so happily. folk faith, imo, is pretty evident of that.
all of this to say that i don't think it's wrong to incorporate different gods from different beliefs into one's own practice but i do think it's very important to understand their cultural origins before doing so. we, unfortunately, will never know them in their original cultural context at the height of their worship. we are too far removed from their origins and both myth and practice of worship change over time with tradition and the whole borrowing and re-contexualization has changed many gods.
i do think it's important to learn who they are within their own realm, their own history, their own cultural context as best we can. you might find that they don't want to be incorporated into your personal belief system or the opposite — you may discover that they aren't who you thought they were and you're no longer interested in incorporating the beliefs that come with them. you might have a shallow understanding of them not realize that the whole god is not who you want to work with. it's important to know them as they are rather than the bits and pieces you like.
so, yes, i believe it's okay —but no, i don't think you should do it without understanding who it is that you're trying to incorporate and the context they come from.
Do you think it's okay to worship and maybe eventually work with gods/goddesses/beings from different beliefs/religions if it fits into one's personal beliefs, or it's disrespectful to people from these beliefs/religions and therefore shouldn't be done? We're talking about open practices only, obviously.
Good morning! I don't consider myself to be a pagan and I've never (IIRC) looked into worshiping pagan gods. Does anyone from the dash have an opinion?

i am not particularly strong in terms of visions or dreams and that's something that i've sadly accepted, haha. i am, however, rather clairvoyant in a sense and last night, as i was lying there trying to go to sleep, i had the persistent thought that i needed to ... meet with my divine.
lying down, i sent myself into a trance and a series of images flooded through my thoughts. i was in an egg and the shell was hard but light started shining through a soft spot in the shell as though it was showing me the way out. i had to be the one to break through.
and then the divine asked me to trust and reached out a hand to me. i felt my hesitancy to do so. i do not trust easy, unfortunately, even when it such a divine being asking me to do so — even when trust is a vital part of faith. i find it so difficult to just ... believe sometimes. i know that the divine knows that and that is why i'm being asked to do so.
high up, hand in hand, we're over the clouds and in the space between the atmosphere below and the vast night sky above and i can see the sun, the light that shines through the soft spot on the eggshell. i found something recently that seems to be a good tool for me to use in my life to actually get things done and i asked if they were the one to bring it to my attention (i was accrediting it to another face of the divine) and there's no like yes or no but i felt a strong sense of surety, i suppose? like i knew all along it was from them, i just had to remember that i knew? it's hard to explain. there was more discussed but it's rather private.
the trance began to slip away and i was brought back down to the body.

i am at a crossroads. i find myself in these places a lot, very much in my nature to look at the roads i won't travel and feel the ache of not knowing what lies at the end of it. i have an unbridled curiosity which is something i love about myself but that does mean that i am now at a crossroad where a choice has to be made.
i haven't touched my tarot deck in months. i don't find myself reaching for it. divining things has never been a strong sense of mine and i'm of the fuck-around-find-out sort. but the weight of this crossroad and the feeling of time slipping away along with new grief and old fears, i was needing that calming sense of just running the cards.
a few days ago, i sat at my altar that i had just cleaned and wept as hard as i have in a long time. i've recently lost someone in my family and there's old grief coming up with the new. and i prayed because prayer gives me comfort and i asked for a direction. do i choose one path or the other? do i stay straight or do i turn? i don't know the right way and i need some direction. offered a candle, finished my prayer, and left it all at the altar.
return to last night, i pulled four cards. only to see that each one stood as a representation for the four gods that i primarily worship — which didn't click with me until i saw them all together. and then i pulled the high priestess which was to be me and my journey ended when i pulled the world, the last card of the majors and the one that completed the journey.
the result: you know the way you want to go and there's only one way to find out but no matter the journey, you don't travel alone.

how to connect with lucifer ? he’s such a revered figure that I feel there’s a wall between us
he comes across that way, doesn't he? well, i'll be the first to say that the wall is our making, not his. i put him so far above me that i thought there is no way he would want to associate with me but lucifer is a breaker of barriers, of chains, of limitations. he lives in the in-between, the morning star.
i would say to find the aspect of him that you wish to connect with. he is extremely multi-faceted and has mythology of all colors, has all kinds of stories and understandings. there is something of him that draws you to him, focus on that. is it the light he brings? is it the infernal / demonic force of him? is it the roman god that called the stars home? or the angel that rebelled against an oppressive force?
once you identify what part of him you want to connect with, start connecting. i suggest doing this way because he represents so many things that it feels like a lot and that can be overwhelming.
here's what i did: i lit a candle for him ( lightbringer, yanno? ) and told him that i would like to connect with him. that's all i did in the beginning. no spell, no incantation, just an honest request.
after that, i would find offerings to give (things that i associated with the aspect of him i was trying to connect with or things that just made me think of lucifer or just a cup of water when that's all i had. ) or i would pray to him. i suggest you do the same. there are demonic chants you can do or prayers but honestly, i never got much into that. lucifer and i have a big UPG relationship. you can journal and tell him how you represented the aspect you're trying to connect to that day. for example, if you're into the illumination of knowledge then perhaps you tell him of the things you're interesting in learning and how you're going to go about doing them. this becomes a devotional act and he will see this.
connecting with an entity, in my experience, is not akin to some huge incredibly movements of religious ecstasy or anything like that. it is very much the little things. i see lucifer in the sunsets, i see him in the dove coos, i see him in the apples i offer him, i see him in my learning and education, i see him in my self-love, i see him in my strength to stand up for myself and in all this, i am connecting with him.
i trust that he is there because he has shown me is through signs, miracles, and associations.
he is the lightbrighter. he will meet you where you are in the dark and he will guide you to illumination. you need only ask him.
if you have more questions or are unsure about something, feel free to ask! i know i'm not very active on the blog but i am around a lot!
EDIT: i also wrote this VERY LONG ask about him too. it might have some insights for you too.
