The liberty party!!! ๐Ÿ™ƒ
The Liberty party was started in 1839 by anti-slavery abolitionists who wanted to fight slavery by using a political platform. The president of the Liberty party was James Birney. (Who owned enslaved people) Most supports doubted that the party could make change by going through the very political system that oppressed African Americans. One of the main people who fought against the ideals of the Liberty Party was Lloyd William Garrison who formed The American Anti-Slavery Society.

Henry Bibb! Let's goooooo ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿฟโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’ฏ
Henry Bibb was born in 1815 on May 10th in Shelby county Kentucky. His mom was an enslaved person of African descent named Mildred Jackson and his dad was a Caucasian man named James Bibb. He worked as a field hand from the age of 10-22. Henry would runaway from the plantation constantly until he mastered the art of running away. His escape efforts slowed for a while because he found himself a common law wife named Malinda from the neighboring plantation he worked at. They had a daughter around 1835. He escaped slavery in 1842. He made several attempts to save his family. a couple of them actually got him captured and sold back into slavery. (But he escaped again) He couldn't save his family so he declared himself divorced from his common law wife and moved to Detroit where he would lecture on slavery and all of its evils. When the Fugitive Slave Act was passed in 1850 he moved to Canada West with his new wife a school teacher who was born free. While living in Canada they built a school and helped build a church. Henry Bibb started a bi-monthly newspaper called the voice of the fugitive in 1851 they would update their readers on the happenings of anti-slavery movement and new arrivals to Canada. In the paper he would advocate for all Black freedom seekers and currently free Blacks to move to Canada where the laws served people of color a bit better. He died in 1854 from an illness.
