being anti ai is making me feel like in going insane. "you asked for thoughts about your characters backstory and i put it into chat gpt for ideas". studies have proven its making people dumber. "i asked ai to generate this meal plan". its causing water shortages where its data centers are built. "ill generate some pictures for the dnd campaign". its spreading misinformation. "meta, generate an image of this guy doing something stupid". its trained off stolen images, writing, video, audio. "i was talking with my snapchat ai-" theres no way to verify what its doing with the information it collects. "youtube is impletmenting ai based age verification". my work has an entire graphics media department and has still put ai generated motivational posters up everywhere. ai playlists. ai facial verification. google ai microsoft ai meta ai snapchat ai. everyone treats it as a novelty. every treats it as a mandatory part of life. am i the only one who sees it? am i paranoid? am i going insane? jesus fucking christ. if i have to hear one more "well at least-" "but it does-" "but you can-" im about to lose it. i shouldnt have to jump through hoops to avoid the evil machine. have you no principles? no goddamn spine? am i the weird one here?

the p5x characters are... so nice and fun. refreshing to have a group of friends who doesn't just drag each other down to the point you ask if they're really friends. i was prepared for shun to be the butt of the joke when i found out he's really passionate about ramen but no he's taken seriously and he's such a nice grounded character. motoha is wonderful and my actual favorite female persona character rn. i dont know why people hate lufel or find him creepy he's my favorite persona mascot now and i am so glad they didn't write him like a creep! he just uses big words! i need to know so badly why wonder has visions why is he plagued like that. its just such a nice game all around and i like not having to worry about deadlines and taking my time with things. im just having a great time and looking forward to the third palace

I hate the writing for Dateable Girls in p5x because it feels too fawning and also atlus really is throwing girls at you, out of like 6 accomplices only one of them is a guy (shun) (though I like tomiyama) (I wanna hang out with the ex-stylist housewife!!!). the character concepts for male idols vs female idols tend to go more goofy too. tokusatsu suit actor, fish whisperer, chuuni… vs stoic ex-figure skater, stoic lawyer, and an army of girls who call the protagonist onii-sama/onii-san/sensei… I do like yukimi though because she’s cool and she has no opinion on the protagonist. And I do like motoha because she’s very Just Some Guy energy. but I wish we got less… personalities that revolve around date-ability (I can’t stand whenever any of the girls calls the protagonist onii-sama also I can’t stand the little sister character why is she attached to the protagonist they don’t knooow each other) (meanwhile I have never heard tokusatsu kid refer to the protagonist and tbh at this point I’m fine with it) (PLEASE stop caring about the protagonist PLEAAAASE)

also, with the blood comparisons (under the cut just in case)

uh yeah jesus christ nagisa is fucking DRENCHED. checking everyone else’s awakenings, none of the blood was NEARLY this bad, specifically none of it dripped onto the clothes like it does for nagisa. i think the only one that comes even close is sumire’s true awakening, especially when the blood drips on the floor. but even then…!

the amount of blood dripping is WAY more for wonder than it is for violet. and even then, this is sumire AFTER ripping her mask off versus nagisa STILL trying to rip it off. and for some extra detail:

it’s hard to see due to the damn ui, but wonder’s hand is COVERED in blood once he’s ripped the mask off.

fwiw i still think the most personally brutal one is yusuke’s, but it’s for a very personal reason… the blood dripping from his hand after dragging his nails on the floor which like. jesus christ.

uh yeah! tl;dr by sheer quantity of blood nagisa has the bloodiest awakening!

hi I love your p5x posts never stop making them. in a sea of p5x haters you are like the beacon of light. side note, on one of your more resent posts regarding nagisa and ren's awakenings, I always took "no more" as him wishing for it to end. That is, "no more" as in he had had enough, and is asking for it to end. I hadn't thought of him not choosing to refuse at alk though! his "I'll take back what's mine" really just sounded too cool for me to not pick at the time haha

HI!!! i’m glad i can be a beacon of positivity! i feel like so many people dislike the game because they quite fairly are wary of gacha games and gacha practices, and it’s fine if the game itself isn’t their style. but i feel like because of that, a lot of people aren’t willing to give the game’s story a chance, and just call wonder a joker rip-off without even seeing nagisa’s characterization and how it differs from ren.

AH, i hadn’t even considered that! “No more” as in him agreeing that he’s willing to give up, i can absolutely see how people got that interpretation, especially when you choose the second option (like i did!). however, i read his “no more” as “I won’t accept being apathetic anymore, I won’t accept losing my future and life anymore. I accept this decision no more”, a literal answer to Jánošík’s question of “do you accept this decision”, especially because either option still leads to him breaking out of the seaweed and awakening to his persona! it’s a far more subtle answer than “I’ll take back what’s mine!”, and may be a more canon answer with how i interpret nagisa’s character… but yes, the latter answer is way cooler, and i don’t blame anyone for choosing it!

and, if you wanna justify it, one could say the latter answer is far closer to the anger and defiant statements you hear in persona 5 proper, and having his first act of defiance be so dramatic matches with the drama and blood quantity of his mask rip!

P5X and the Importance of Community

There’s something interesting about how P5X is handling confidants. Obviously, I’ll have to wait until it gets officially localized, but there seems to be a running trend in regards to community.

See, X is different from P3,4, and 5 in that the protagonist did not move before the start of the game. There’s no adjusting to some new environment and meeting a bunch of people there. Wonder has lived here all his life. So making friends isn’t about becoming a part of a new place. Instead, it’s a signifier of Wonder’s change in attitude.

Wonder’s whole deal is that he was just kinda coasting through life. As the lyrics of Ambitions and Visions points out: “Act like I don’t care. Why even bother? That’s what I though then. Just another bluffer.” He was a go with the flow guy who couldn’t be bothered to put in the effort whose bitterness and lack of ambition was the reason why things weren’t going the way he wanted in life. A fact that he didn’t really want to admit.

But that changes when he becomes a Phantom Thief and he begins to actually put effort in and start caring. The whole idea of the Phantom Idols is that Wonder’s connection to the Sea of Souls allows him to see the potential in people. To see who they could be. Meaning he’s learning to shed his previous ambivalence and see people for who they really are and who they could become.

This becomes even more impactful, because he’s not in some new place with new people. He’s in his home, with most of the people having already been living there alongside him. So it’s not a matter of the world changing. It’s his perception of it that changes. It’s him realizing that the people he’d written off are actually pretty amazing.

So one of the confidants is his next door neighbor and his mom’s friend. Someone who was always around but he never bothered to really get to know. It’s his mom’s friend and they’re both old, what could possibly be interesting about that? They probably talk about whatever it is middle aged women talk about. Boring.

Except she’s not. Once he starts paying attention he finds out that she used to be a fashion designer. And she was good at it!? Not to mention those photos of her when she was younger. Who knew that Mrs. Tomiyama was COOL?!

And hey, did you know that she also has a nephew? Yeah, he’s only like a year older than you and he wants to be an actor someday. Gonna star on tv in Featherman and make so many people smile. If you’re getting to know Mrs. Tomiyama you should probably get to know him too. Who knows? You might even become friends.

And hey, what about that girl that’s always helping her father with running the local bar? You must’ve passed her by a million times by now and you’ve never spoken a word have you? Did you know that she wants to be a nurse when she grows up? Or that she’s planning to simply stay home instead so she can take care of her father with his back problem?

Or what about Yaoling Li? Did you even know that a college student from China had moved into the neighborhood? Right next to the Fujikawa residence! You know, where Yukimi lives? She’s your age, why did you never even try to become friends? But maybe it’s time to remedy that, especially if you’re both gonna befriend Yaoling, who is still struggling with the signage at the local market.

It’s all about the community. That community that’s always been there, that you just never bothered to pay attention to. The people so unique and varied, with dreams and aspirations and lives so complex you can barely imagine. That you could get to know, so long as you were willing to put in the effort to do so. And maybe, if you did, you might just find your life is better for it.

It’s a concept I find incredibly interesting, and one I really hope is done well in P5X. Because, if so, it might just be my favorite handling of confidants/social links yet.

something infinitely funny about lufel being an owl. like, morgana is a cat, nobody would question a dude that has a cat for a pet. thats a normal animal to see interacting with someone. an owl? why is that here. and why is it perched on some kid’s arm. ren goes home with a new cat his parents are probably like “um ok”, but nagisa? his parents come home and there’s a whole ass owl in there, just chilling out. carrying a cat in a bag? easy. maybe its a little strange but not that weird. an owl? that is not domesticated in the slightest that is a Wild Life. in a highschooler’s bag. sure man, whatever

i think another thing abt nagisa that’s gonna be easy to forget is that nagisa already had his desires stolen, and it’s implied that they’ve BEEN stolen for a good while now. he’s only recently reclaimed them thanks to the metaverse and his persona awakening, but depending on how long the metaverse has existed, he’s probably been without desire for a while. so, in MY opinion, his “desire to live” feels so default because he’s not even sure what his desires ARE anymore, but because his desires were reclaimed by a literal Desire To Not Fucking Die, he’s going with what quite literally saved him, and will figure out the rest later.

Nagisa picks up the bass guitar extremely quickly, despite never having played it aside from a quick lesson from the vice president of the music club. this implies he has an innate sense of rhythm, and really good hand-eye coordination.
