Last Trip (in 2024)
By the last months of 2024, we decided to take a visit at Pasar Glodok.
The enormous entrance gate could be seen from far away. It's filled with detailed engravings. At the left corner above, you can see the captured details of it. By each side of it, there's a structure on the pedestrian path showing information on certain destinations within Pasar Glodok area. A man, scrunching his face, was filling out the newspaper crossword in front of the mall going under renovations just by the entrance.
Started off the day at Petak Enam, we took the time to look around inside before starting out the culinary activity. It wasn’t as crowded by then, not until we went further inside and checked out several stores selling angpaos, lanterns, other similar accessories, snacks, and medicines.
We sat down to eat the snacks we bought --
-- and decided to visit Gereja Santa Maria De Fatima.
Left: A Chinese-styled lion statue by the entrance of the church’s building. | Right: A unique detail on one of the roofs of Gereja Santa Maria de Fatima.
A Mary statue was placed by the altar. A round structure was embedded in the walls in front of it, creating a slight division between the church hall and the small space to pray.
On our way there, we saw this old man leisurely painting hanzi using gold paint.
Temples – new and abandoned – were all over the place around Pasar Glodok.

Finding Greeneries
Trying to breath in the fresh air is a challenging aspect in the big city of Jakarta. After a while, the charm of skyscrapers are slowly fading and the pollution is filling up our body. We desperately need an escape. From somewhere in North Jakarta and Rawamangun, we decided Tebet Eco Park as our ultimate destination this time. KRL was out chosen transportation

In the-now-renovated Tebet Eco Park, children were seen playing around at the playground area and several other spots. Their affectious laughter filled the noon air.

The “Unexpected” Detour
Note: some of these photos have a blue hue to them. It was an editing style I chose at the time.
Without any certain plan in hand other than taking pictures, Pasar Baru became our destination and meeting point.

Culinary was our first destination: from cakwe to kue cubit, and (the undocumented) bakmi to soto betawi, safe to say our tummy were well-satisfied by the end of the day.

The "unexpected" -- but very much welcomed -- detour happened quite early in the day, before we even touched the delicious cakwe.

We visited Yayasan Vihara Dharma Jaya, a vihara that’s built in 1660. One of the vihara employee welcomed us and guided us through the buildings. One of the many things I noticed was the soft smell of incense all around the building.

Blackened ceilings due to years of built-up candles and incenses.

Along the Road
A photo collection of people captured during a bajaj ride from Pasar Glodok to Kota Tua...
... and some taken in the tourist destination itself.
The sky was adorned by grey clouds by the time the bajaj arrived. As we explored parts of it, the rain started to pour down.
