all my life~ part ten
december 19, 2014
callie pulls on her tan beanie to better protect her ears from the harsh, winter winds of columbus, ohio. as she walks down the sidewalk in the usual snowfall they get on the daily during the winter, she looks around and notices just how busy it is. cars zooming past quicker than you can say 'hello', people crowding the sidewalks and crosswalks, all the city lights shining in the dark night sky. december is always the busiest time of the year.
she pulls her earmuffs out of her coat pocket; the beanie itself just simply isn't warm enough for her. sure, earmuffs may muffle the sound of everything, but you gotta do what you gotta do to survive in the wild.
pain tugs lightly on callie's heart as she remembers she only says that phrase because he says it. or at least he used to. when he still lived here.
she sighs. five years. that's how long it's been since she last saw tyler. since she last had any form of communication with him. sure, callie was happy for him and his new life, knowing tyler he was probably extremely successful, but she misses him so badly. she never wanted him to leave in the first place.
but he did. and she hadn't seen or heard from him since.
callie looks up at all the lights and traffic flow of all the cars and buildings around her. she lets a simple smile adorn her face at their beauty amidst her sadness.
suddenly she feels her phone vibrate in her pocket. it somewhat throws her off, she rarely gets phone calls these days. but what throws her off even more is the caller id. her footsteps cease and she stares wide-eyed at the name, heart racing immediately. she hasn't seen that name pop up on her phone in forever.
five years to be specific.
incoming call from: tyjo
after standing there dumbfounded for a couple seconds, she accepts the call and takes off her muffs before bringing the phone up to her ear, desperate to hear his voice again.
"tyler?" "hey callie." he sounds nervous, she can hear it clearly in his voice. her eyes start to tear up because she didn't realize how much she missed hearing his voice until now. his soft, comforting voice that could calm the wildest storm.
"um, h-how are you?" she asks, mind still spinning. "i'm good, i'm good, but can-...okay i need you to do something for me- could you do something for me possibly? like right now?" he asks, only getting more and more nervous the longer he keeps talking.
"uh, sure, what-" "turn around." he says in a soft tone. callie's heart jumps. "what?" "please..." he stops before taking in a breath. "please i just..i-i need you to turn around before my nerves get the best of me and i do something stupid like run away."
callie's heart is pounding so hard she feels it could burst out of her chest at any moment, the sound filling her ears and muting almost all other sound. she looks over her shoulder first, her body soon following seconds later. her hand immediately flies up to her mouth as her eyes fall on him. "oh my god." she mutters in utter disbelief and joy. he's in the middle of the sidewalk amongst the many other people walking hastily past him as he just stands there, phone in hand up against his ear, looking at callie like she's the only thing in the world right now. he's wearing a navy blue beanie, callie's favorite beanie of his, and that ohio hoodie he's had for years.
he lets out a shaky breath as her eyes meet his. "hi." he says with the smallest voice she's ever heard him speak in. tears flood her eyes quickly. "tyler that better be you right there or i think i'm actually going to punch you." she jokes while looking him in the eyes. he lets out a small, airy laugh. "i mean i could pinch you for reassurance, but you're kind of all the way over there, so..." he trails off, shrugging.
callie smiles as the buildup of tears starts its release. she ends the call and shoves her phone back into her pocket before running straight for him.
it doesn't take long at all before she crashes into him, the tears starting to stream down her face. his arms protectively wrap around her on impact, pulling her as close as he can get her because god he missed her. he missed hearing her voice, seeing her face, holding her like he is now, he missed every single thing about her.
the guilt had been piling up on top of him, becoming so heavy it nearly broke him. after the first couple weeks of ignoring her, he couldn't bring himself to text her a simple 'sorry', although that would've been much better than to push her out of his life. but soon one month turned into two, and two into three, and before he knew it holy crap it had been five whole years and he knew had to make it up to her.
he moves one of his hands onto the back of her head and grasps her hair gently, still assuring himself that she's here, she's here.
"i missed you so much." she cries into his chest, her fingers tightening their grip on the back of his hoodie. tyler lets out a shaky breath that turns into a small laugh as he feels tears prick at his own eyes. "i did too- god, i missed you so much callie." he rests his head atop of hers.
why did he ever leave? he should've stayed, he never should've left. his heart is soaring right now, he just wants to hold her forever. she means so much to him, and he wishes he could tell her everything right now, but that just simply isn't possible.
gosh dangit she's wonderful. she was the best thing to ever happen to him and he left her. god, he's such an idiot.
without even thinking about it, he sweetly presses his lips to her hair. "i'm so sorry." he mutters quietly. callie only shakes her head a few times against him in response, knowing exacly what he's talking about. but she's not quite ready to talk about it yet. he doesn't know why, but her little reaction pushed him over the edge. his eyes are much more than misty and he's hugging her even tighter- if that's possible.
they stay like that in the middle of the busy sidewalk for minutes, soaking up the moment as much as they can to make up for the past five years.
"as much as i'd love to stay here the rest of the night, i think we should probably go somewhere before we get hypothermia." tyler says eventually, hand still carefully smoothing over her hair. callie's head slowly pulls back from their embrace. "yeah, i think so too." she says with a half smile, eyes still glistening with tears as she looks up at him. god, the sight alone makes tyler's heart flutter. he smiles back at her, moving his hand down from her head to her shoulder.
the smile doesn't last very long, however. "okay listen callie, i'm really sorry, about the last five years, i-" "yeah, that was kind of a jerk move. do you...got an explanation?" she interrupts with her arms crossed over her chest, her voice still delicate from crying but laced with anger and hurt- a lot of hurt.
tyler sighs, bringing one hand to his head, fingers grabbing at the hem of his beanie. "i know, i just-" he sighs defeatedly. "sorry's never gonna cut it, huh?" callie shakes her head in answer to his question. tyler sighs through his nose and his jaw tightens, something that happens when he gets nervous, before he speaks up again.
"okay i know i said i'd be in touch with you, i know i promised, but...the longer i thought about it, the harder it was for me to-...." he sighs again. "i just...god, it's- it's hard being in love with someone when you know you might not see them again for a long time." he confesses, one of his hands having slid to the back of his neck, rubbing it shyly as he explains. callie's eyes widen as she listens to him.
"it's just...well, okay you know how it is when the more you talk to someone, the more...the more your feelings towards that person grow? well i knew that if i let my feelings for you run any more wild than they already were when i got to la, i-i'd be completely screwed." he says quietly. "god, it was so hard. looking back now it was deinitely the worst decision i have ever made and i'm so, so sorry. i'm never gonna do anything like that ever again, you're the most important thing in my life and i swear i'm never gonna let you go again."
he finishes his answer with his hands in hers, looking into her eyes with complete desperation and remorse. she has no idea how to respond, she ends up just staring in shock for a few seconds. "tyler...if you would have just told me before you left..." "i know, i know." his eyes hold an enormous amount of regret and guilt. "i- i thought you'd forgotten about me." she states quietly, voice still unsteady as it was before.
tyler's heart sinks down to his feet, his mouth open in shock at himself, how could he have done what he did? his eyebrows knit together in the middle as all the tears he's had storing away flood over his vision.
"oh my god no- callie of course i never forgot about you. there was never once a day that went by where you didn't cross my mind. i'm so sorry, i know i'm literally the biggest douche to ever exist and i understand if you completely hate me now, i totally would, but..." he pauses, taking in a breath.
"okay you just- you've been by my side all my life..." he starts with a shrug, his eyebrows raised and his gaze transfixed on the ground below them. he takes her hands in his once again, thumbs brushing back and forth over her knuckles as he tries his hardest to keep his tears at bay.
"...and it- it would be pretty hard to forget someone like you." he finishes, eyes flickering up to hers at last.
a smile starts to show itself on her face, the glistening tears in her eyes spilling over all at once. she throws her arms around him once again. "i love you." she says into his hoodie. his breath gets caught in his throat; he was not expecting this reaction.
he hugs her tighter and presses a kiss to her forehead. they stay like that for several seconds before he pulls back, an uncontainable smile plastered on his face. she looks up at him with the same mirrored smile, tears all over her cheeks and around her eyes. he gently swipes them away, drying her face. "you're so pretty when you cry." he remarks. she laughs and covers her face, leaning her head forward against his chest again.
"where were you headed before i called you?" he asks. "maude's, actually." she replies happily. tyler's eyes light up. "oh my god, i haven't been there in so long." "well come on then." she says as she tugs on his hand and laces their fingers together, the two walking off together as snowflakes fall all around them.

december 1, 2009
callie sips her hot chocolate on the front porch of her house, the warmth of the mug sleeping through her mittens. she looks around at the snow lightly covering the ground and takes out her phone, snapping a quick picture of the white powder.
she looks at the product and smiles to herself, the loveliness of her surroundings bringing joy into her heart. she decides to post it to her facebook along with a picture of her hot chocolate. when she opens her app, it pops up with a 'memory' of last year on this day. it's five pictures from tyler's birthday party last year at a dodgeball trampoline park.
callie smiles at the memory shortly, although the sadness of reality sits right in front of her. she decides to send tyler a text, though she knows the odds of him seeing it are less than one.
*
callie: happy birthday
callie: not that you're ever gonna see this
callie: just thought i should let you know that i still care
callie: even if you don't
callie: i hope you have a great birthday though. i miss you.
*
she sets her phone down with a sigh. great, that was pointless.
she turns her phone off and puts it in her pocket as she looks at his house across the street, playing back all the the memories of them from the past twelve years.
pointless.

all my life~ part eight
august 11, 2009
tyler sits there with his hands in his hair and breathes out roughly, looking at the phone on his desk in front of him.
he needs to tell her.
a little backstory: tyler joined a band somewhat recently, almost five months ago to be exact. it's just himself and two other guys at the moment. but the problem is, both his bandmates live all the way in la. and it's not like they lived there their whole lives, no.
they had just recently moved there. they both grew up in columbus. but they moved to la shortly after forming the band, saying 'it'll help the band become more successful more quickly'.
tyler didn't know what to do. both of them still obviously wanted to be in the band, and so did he. heck, he was the one who asked them to start a band.
he just didn't know if he wanted to move to la or...okay he didn't really know what to do at all. he went to his parents, and they told him he should move to la as well if the band is something he's willing to put the effort into.
of course he'd be willing to put effort into his band, he'd give up everything for it. it's the main reason he's alive, so he's going to do whatever it takes to get it on its feet.
so long story short, he's moving to la. tomorrow. and he hasn't told callie yet. big problem.
his phone stares up at him, her contact pulled up and ready for him to send her a text. he stares back at it nervously.
come on tyler. you need to tell her.
he lets out another sigh and picks up his phone reluctantly, quickly typing her a message.
:: hey callie, there's something i need to tell you. could you meet me in the treehouse in half an hour? ::
he breathes out slowly. first part done. he knows he needs to tell her in person, there no way he can tell her over text.
after a couple of minutes, she sends a reply.
callie đ: sure thing ty. seeya in 30!
he smiles. why is she so good to him?
but his smile fades as he remembers what he's gonna have to tell her.
~~~
callie knocks on the door of the joseph home, a little confused and concerned at tyler's text. tyler's mom opens the door a few seconds later. "hello callie! do you need anything?" she asks with a smile. callie smiles and shakes her head. "tyler told me to meet him in the treehouse, so that's where i'm headed. thank you kelly!" she explains cheerily. she loves tyler's mom, she's one of the nicest women callie knows. kelly nods. "oh okay, come in then! it's nice to see you again." "you too." callie says with a smile as she makes her way through the kitchen to the back door.
she closes it and steps through the yard, swiftly climbing the fence and hopping over it when she reaches it. she remembers her first time climbing, it took her almost thirty seconds to get to the top. now it's become pure muscle memory; she could do this in her sleep.
her heart starts beating a little faster as she lightly jogs after the now faded red thread, guiding by it with her peripheral vision, eyes focused straight ahead of her.
she gets to the big tree, stopping for a few moments to catch her breath before scaling the ladder. the trapdoor is open, meaning tyler must be in there already. when she reaches the door, she knocks six times in a specific rhythm her and tyler made years ago to let the other know it was them; they use it everywhere. she peeks her head in to see tyler perk up in his beanbag chair.
"hey ty. what's up?" she asks as she steps inside, pulling the other beanbag over by his.
he takes a deep breath in, letting it out quickly followed by words tumbling out of his mouth.
"okay i really should've told you this a lot sooner, and i'm really, really sorry for putting it off until today, but...basically i'm moving." he finishes quietly.
callie's face changes as soon as the last two words leave his mouth. "moving?" she repeats hesitantly, her disappointment showing both in her voice and on her face.
tyler nods shamefully. "yeah..." he mutters. callie takes a couple breaths in as she tries to sort through all the questions swirling around in her brain. "is it just you or is your family coming with...?" "it's just me." he answers, voice still that same small tone.
"where are you moving to? is it someplace like cleveland or cincinnati or...like out of state?" she asks slowly, afraid she knows the answer already. tyler looks down. he really doesn't want to have to tell her, he doesn't want it to be him, but it has to.
"i'm moving to la." he states in a small voice laced with guilt. callie's face falls. he doean't think he's ever seen her more upset in his life. her eyes slowly become glossy, tears flooding the surface. he looks down; he doesn't know if he'll be able to look at her face much longer before the guilt starts piling up on top of him like an anvil.
"i mean...i guess that's..great, since, y'know it's for your band and..you'll be having the time of your life over there....way over there..." she says, trying her best to sound happy for him, but tyler sees right through her.
tyler looks off to the side, unable to form any words to say in this moment. he feels like the biggest idiot on the planet right now.
callie stands up and walks over to the window, looking out at the thicket of trees as a tear slips out of her eye. tyler's leaving. he's going across the country for...geez, he doesn't even know how long. he's her best friend, he's the person she's most comfortable around and most open with; he knows everything about her and vice versa. and now he's leaving.
"what time is your flight?" callie asks in a small, vulnerable voice. "six am." is what she hears in reply.
"tyler i just...wish you would've told me sooner." she turns back to him after quickly wiping the tear from her face. tyler stands up and walks over to her. "i know, i do too. i really do." he says, looking at her with the most remorseful eyes. callie throws herself at him, clinging to him. "i wish we had more time." she says brokenly into his shoulder. "me too."
and that's where they stay for a while, getting the last of each other that they can before they can't.
~~~
it's callie who drops him off at the airport the next morning. waving goodbye to him as he boards his plane, both of them teary-eyed and heartbroken at the present situation.
and then that's it.
she gets home and shuts the door to her room, throwing herself onto her bed and shoving her face into her pillow.
he's gone.
her other half is gone.
she feels this emptiness inside her chest, and she decides she doesn't want to do anything today.
god she misses him like heck. she didn't realize she'd miss him this much. she turns her phone on and goes through the pictures of them she has saved, wishing him to be back already, but she knows he won't be for most likely a very long time.
as selfish as it sounds, she wants him back. she doesn't want him to live in la. she wants him back in ohio. she needs him back in ohio.
she needs him.
and he's gone.

all my life (part seven)
october 2, 2007
you ever have those really good days? the ones where you can't keep a smile off your face? the ones where literally everything good that could happen...happens? where you just wanna keep reliving the whole day and play it on repeat over and over again?
well, tyler was not having one of those days.
it was actually pretty much the opposite. he didn't wake up great, and the fact that he couldn't write anything good didn't help either. that didn't exactly help his mind. his family isn't currently around to distract him from his mind, and they won't be for pretty much the rest of the day, so he has to deal with it on his own.
fun, huh?
he can only do it for so long though before he...does something. but he doesn't want to do anything. he hasn't done anything for almost two months now, and he doesn't want to take any steps backwards.
but when he thinks of all the things he's done wrong and all the friends he's mistakenly yelled at and lost in the process and how sometimes he would screw up badly during a game and let his whole team down...he's a failure. he doesn't even know if he wants to pursue basketball as a career anymore- he doesn't know anything anymore.
he'd begun writing music on this stupid toy keyboard and teaching himself to play, but he doesn't know if that's gonna get him anywhere. but what he does know is that it makes him happy. creating, playing, writing, and now singing...they all help him. he loves it more than anything. so he dropped out of high school and has been teaching himself for the past two and a half years. and, not to brag, he's gotten pretty good. he's working on a collection of about twenty songs, songs he's proud of. songs he wants to share with people. to help people like him and let them know they're not alone.
but whenever he thinks about showing someone what he's created, he starts beating himself up again. they won't like it, they'll think it's horrible, they'll hate both you and your so-called "music".
worthless. you're worthless. nobody's ever gonna listen to your music. you'll never amount to anything. you'll always be a nobody writing meaningless lyrics to meaningless chords on that stupid toy that you call a piano.
worthless.
he grabs at his hair. breathe. just beathe.
but he won't do anything, he won't do anything. just don't go in the bathroom. don't go into the bathroom.
he feels tears at the backs of his eyes and he realizes he needs to talk to someone. now. before things get worse.
he calls josh first, josh always helps him. but josh doesn't answer today, instead it rings a couple times before going to voicemail. tyler's heart falls and he ends the call before the tone can sound.
what does he do now? he can't call his parents, they don't know all the specifics of what he's going through. his brothers don't have wifi right now, and maddy's hanging with her "boyfriend", so chances of her picking up are slim to zero.
callie.
he at least needs to try calling her. he doesn't know if she's busy at the moment, but what he does know is that she always answers her phone.
he presses her contact and calls her, listening to the ringing noise a few times.
god he hopes she picks up.
"hey tyler, what's up?" he sighs with relief at the sound of her voice. "hey cal, i-um...i need some help." "why? what happened??" she asks, suddenly concerned about the situation. "i...i'm not really having the best of days today and i just...i need someone to talk to." he tells her quietly. "are you okay?" "i mean...no."
she's silent for a few seconds. "what can i do? do you need me to come over? i'll be about fifteen minutes since i'm downtown, but i ca-" "no, no you don't need to come over, i'm fine. i just...need you to stay on the phone for a few minutes? if that's okay. i'm sorry i just- i need something to distract me from...myself." he finishes shyly. "tyler don't be sorry, of course i'll stay on the phone. but i'm coming over, too. when i get there we can watch like netflix or something. okay?" he can hear the smile in her voice. the corners of his lips twitch upwards slightly before he responds. "okay."
callie holds her phone in between her ear and her shoulder as she starts the short drive home. she tells tyler about her day since he asked, and eventually they end up talking about the latest season of the bachelorette, god knows how they got there.
"just pulled up, seeya in a minute." she says as she takes her key out of the ignition. "mkay." he replies before she hangs up, shutting the door of her car.
she knocks on the door three times, awaiting it to be opened. to her surprise, it opens almost immediately after her last knock. she doesn't have any time to look at him before he pulls her into a tight hug. she smiles and wraps her arms around him soothingly.
he exhales slowly. "thank you callie." "hey anytime ty."
~~~
one show, two movies, and three bowls of chocolate and popcorn later, it's now ten pm, and the two young adults are still wide awake on the couch. the credits are rolling and it's annoyingly quiet in the room. tyler turns toward callie. "what now?" she shrugs. "beats me. you up for another movie or nah?" "definitely. you pick this time though." he tells her. she thinks for a few seconds. "i'm feelin' a romance movie." she says.
he grabs the remote and hands it to her. "here, you pick. i've never seen any, so i don't know which ones are good." "wait, you haven't seen a single romance movie?" he shakes his head. callie's mouth drops open. "okay well that's changing starting now."
~~~
so basically, tyler may have found his new favorite movie genre.
he was hooked as soon as the main characters were introduced, although he would never admit it out loud. but callie could already see it in his face.
it's a little over halfway through the movie when he feels something on his shoulder. he looks over and finds her fast asleep, her head resting gently on his shoulder.
why did his heart start just beating faster? and why does it feel like a million butterflies are having a party in his stomach?
he takes a deep breath in; it's just callie, she's his best friend. that's what she is, that's what they are.
they're best friends. just best friends.
and it's just callie.
again, and again, and again.
it's just callie.
so why does he always seem to feel like this?
the longer he looks at her, the more evident the answer becomes and the more he doesn't want to admit it to himself.
he should've known though. he really should've known he'd feel this way towards her at some point. it was inevitable. her bright smile, her crystal green eyes, her adorable laugh, the cute little dimples that form at the corners of her mouth when she smiles...actually, how had he not realized he'd fallen for her until now?
fallen? is that the word? he wants to say yes, looking at her now and realizing how much she means to him, he knows he's completely taken by her. she's always been there for him whenever he needed it, she's always been the one he goes to for help, it's always been her...oh gosh dangit.
love.
that's the word.
he's in love with callie summers.
no, no he can't be, they're best friends. god, now he's bound to screw something up sooner or later. what would he do, pretend he's not hopelessly in love with her the rest of their lives because she most definitely doesn't love him back? yeah, that's a great idea tyler.
he drags his hands down his face in agony, not knowing what to do with the newly found information about himself.
what he does know, though, is that looking at her, watching her sleep peacefully on him, he wants to put his arm around her. like, really badly.
but what if she wakes up and sees? he doesn't know what he'd do.
...screw it.
he pulls her a little closer into his side before she shifts in her sleep. he freezes for a second and makes sure she's not awake before letting out a brief sigh of relief. he looks at her again as a warmth erupts inside his chest, almost like part of his heart just exploded. not in a bad way. in the best way possible, actually.
if he doubted it before, he doesn't now. he loves her. he loves this girl more than anything else in the world.
and he doesn't know what to do about it.

all my life- tyler x oc (part six)
december 1, 2005
today is a special day. why? it's tyler's birthday. why exactly is it special? because callie gets to yell him awake over the phone. at 7 am. aka 'too early to wake up' according to tyler.
she goes onto his contact and presses the call icon, putting her phone up to her ear. it rings for about seven times before finally, it goes through.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY YOU DORK!!" callie shouts into the phone before he has a chance to say anything. across the line, tyler winces back, not having been ready for callie to scream at him at 7 am after just waking up. "god, callie. morning to you too, doofus. i didn't order a wake up call but thanks." he responds tiredly into his phone.
callie chuckles. "you're welcome." she says with a smirk. "why'd you call me at 7 am cal? you know i hate waking up early." "that's actually exactly why. i always have to get up early, and today's your birthday, so i thought, 'y'know what, tyler's gonna wake up early today, too.'" "you're the worst." callie laughs. "whatever ty. hey go get out of the house today, go hang with mark and chris, have some fun okay? don't stay cooped up inside your gloomy bedroom all day." she tells him. she hears him sigh across the phone. "alright, i'll call them. i'm only doing this because of you though." he replies reluctantly.
"well gee, thanks. nice to know people listen to me." she hears tyler let out a soft chuckle. "go get ready for school cal." "okay, okay, i will!! i just want to make sure you have an awesome birthday!!" he laughs lightly again, bringing a smile to callie's face.
"i will, thanks doofus." "that's you." "whatever, you need to get ready." "don't worry about me tyler i'll be fine. oh wait, you got any plans tonight?" she asks suddenly. "uh, no? why?" "well, now you do! i'm coming over at 7." she says with a proud smile. "what?" "have a good day dancing queen!!" she says before hanging up quickly, laughing to herself.
yes, tyler is now 17. and yes, callie is going to make mamma mia jokes about it for the next 365 days.
~~~
"yo we should totally just make this an all dudes day, this is where it's at." tyler's friend mark says as he, tyler, zack, and a couple of tyler's basketball buddies lay sun tanning at the pool.
"oh yeah totally, this is one of the most chill days i've had in a while." nick, one of tyler's teammates agrees. the rest of the guys all voice their agreement to such am awesome, laid back day.
"as much fun as that sounds guys, i actually have plans at 7." tyler brings up. the guys look over at him. "what?" "dude." "you're serious?" "with who?"
"woah woah woah guys calm down. i didn't even make them. callie's coming over at 7 tonight, i have no idea what she planned but that's just what she told me this morning." tyler explains.
nick raises his eyebrows. "so you're gonna ditch us for her? c'mon man, it's your birthday!" "hey, callie's his best friend, he can hang with her whenever he wants." mark argues, defending the poor girl who doesn't even know she's being talked about at the moment.
tyler looks over at his friend with a smile. "why thank you mark." he says elegantly. "oh, anything for you, your highness." mark replies, bowing to tyler.
"wait you have plans with callie?" zack asks, sitting up from his reclined potision. "well, i didn't until seven this morning." "you were up at seven?" "hey, she called me and screamed happy birthday into the phone, okay?" tyler explains, trying to get the guys to see where he's coming from.
"is it a date?" nick asks slyly. "what- no, it's not a date! she's just coming over and...actually i don't know what we're gonna do but i assume it's probably just food and tv." "wait she's coming over??" zack asks confusedly. "yeah, why?" tyler asks in reply.
zack is quiet for a couple seconds. "i'm hanging out with will tonight." tyler rolls his eyes. "whatever bro."
"tell us how your date goes tomorrow man." mark says, nudging tyler with a smirk. tyler laughs and shakes his head. "sure, whatever."
~~~
callie walks up to the joseph household with two bags of taco bell in her hands. she knocks in the same pattern she and tyler use for their treehouse. a few seconds later, the door opens to reveal tyler, his hair messy but in literally the cutest way possible. callie flashes a toothy smile and waves a little with her hands, bags dangling from her arms. "happy birthday!!"
tyler chuckles. "you know me way too well." he says with an amused expression before welcoming her inside.
they sit down at the dining table with tyler's family (minus zack) and celebrate the beloved birthday boy.
callie gets out her phone as tyler and his dad are pretty engrossed in a conversation about how amazing tacos are. she opens the camera and focuses it on tyler, snapping the picture button just as he shoves a bite of his crunchy shell taco into his mouth. however, rookie mistake, she had her ringer on, so the camera sound went off and got tyler's attention.
callie shoves her phone down underneath the table and bites back a grin at tyler's offended expression. "did you just take a picture of me?" he asks with a mouth full of taco. she holds back laughter and shakes her head innocently. "no, who would do such a thing? not me, that's who." she says as she shrugs, taking a bite of her taco.
tyler narrows his eyes suspiciously as he continues chewing. ".....anyway, tacos are literally the best form of food-" he starts up again, turning his attention back to his dad. callie turns to maddy, both of the girls snickering evilly.
tyler did practically predict the night, they all watched back to the future together after dinner and cake.
tyler wouldn't have spent a birthday any other way though.

all my life~ tyler joseph x oc (part five)
february 14th, 2004
callie opens her locker with a sigh. she just ripped off a pink heart that had been taped onto her locker, as well as every other locker in the hallway. it was just a stupid cheesy valentine's day thing that they have every year, saying dumb phrases like 'hope your day is as sweet as you are!' or 'you are loved!', but callie didn't bother to read the one she got today. she didn't exactly 'wake up on the right side of the bed', as people say. and she didn't have the greatest of mornings, either. all she really wants to do right now is go back home and sleep, but she has two tests today that she really can't miss. if she could just have a one day break from life-
âhey callie!â
she turns her head and her expression lightens a little upon seeing his face. she closes her locker and turns to face him. "hey tyler." she says happily, but with a tired undertone to it. tyler picks up on it right away. "something wrong?" he asks, concerned. callie's not usually one for non-enthusiasm.
she sighs again. "just really tired, 's all." she replies, leaning up against her locker tiredly. he nods. "well, happy valentine's day. i didn't get you anything because i was hoping a hug would do." he says with a bashful smile.
the corners of callie's lips tug upwards as she sleepily walks into tyler's warm, calming embrace. he smiles as a light, warm feeling erupts in his chest. they pull back a couple seconds later and carry on into their normal, random conversations as they walk down the hall to their first classes. tyler tells her a simple goodbye before they go their seperate ways, walking down opposite sides of the hallway to the classrooms. not even thirty seconds later however, tyler stops at the sound of voices down the hall.
he turns his head to see callie, surrounded by four tall, obviously-up-to-no-good students. his blood boils at the sight, and before he knows it, he's walking towards the scene like the hero that he's not. "oh sorry, were you headed to class?" one of them asks her snarkily. "yes. now would you move, please?" she asks in the most sarcastically nice way possible, her patience wearing thin. tyler slows a little and smiles slightly to himself at her response to them.
"why, so you can go sit next to your boyfriend on valentine's day?" the taller of the two boys teases. callie rolls her eyes. "maybe i just don't want to be late for class, did that thought ever cross your minds? any of you?" she fires at them, completely done with their crap.
"do you even have a boyfriend callie?" "no, b-" "of course she doesn't, poor thing's far too hideous for one." callie's eyes widen and her guard falters for a moment. "could you guys-" "not to mention her lack of talents. makes sense why no one wants her." "stop." she begs, but to no avail. they continue to spew nasty things at her, her voice becoming more and more fragile with every insult thrown her way.
"awh, guys, look at that! we broke her! go ahead, cry. nobody's watching." the blonde girl taunts. callie shuts her mouth even tighter to keep it from quivering. "please, can you just-"
"hey, how 'bout you guys think about, i don't know, maybe leaving?"
everyone's attention is now turned to tyler, standing now only a few feet behind callie. his eyes meet her teary ones and his heart falls. the black haired girl scoffs. "um, i'm sorry, what?" "leave. leave her alone and get out of here." he tells them seriously. "and why would we listen to you?" the red-headed boy asks snobbishly.
tyler shrugs. "oh, i don't know, maybe because the principal is literally walking down the hall as we speak." he gestures to the left with his head. the four kids immediately shut their mouths and don'y even think twice before scrambling around the corner.
callie throws herself into tyler's arms as soon as they disappear, causing him to stumble back a couple steps before returning the gesture equally. "i'm sorry tyler, usually i'm able to brush them off but today just hasn't been my day and i feel so weak an-" tyler cuts her off, pulling back a little to look her in the eyes. "callie, listen to me. everyone has their days, okay? you're not the only one, you're normal. you aren't the only kid who's a mess. in fact, you're probably talking to one of the biggest messes right now." he tells her with a small smile. she can't ring herself to say anything, so all she does is nod slightly as she looks up at him, her green eyes swimming with tears.
"don't listen to them callie. what they said is just a bunch of lies. you're literally the opposite of what they told you. you're nowhere near hideous, and you have so many talents, it's insane. they just threw stuff at you to make themselves feel better because they're just a bunch of insecure brats." he tells her softly, hands placed gently on her shoulders.
she smiles a little, wiping the tear that had escaped off of her cheek. "i don't know what i'd do without you tyler, thank you so much." she tells him, hugging him once more. "of course." he mutters quietly with a smile.
"you wanna head to maude's after school and get some ice cream?" he asks. her face lights up a little. "and sit on the swings across the street as we eat it?" "uh, duh!" "then heck yes."

all my life~ tyler x oc (part 4)
april 20, 2002
"hey tyler! you ready for your game tonight?" callie says cheerfully as she approaches her best friend in the lunchroom.
tyler looks up with his doe-like eyes, sandwich in hands and a smile on his face. "sure am. mom had me make seven hundred baskets before dinner yesterday instead of the usual five hundred, so i think i'm pretty prepared." he jokes. callie's eyes widen as she takes her spot across from him. "seven hundred are you kidding??" he shakes his head. "not in the slightest. she has me do that on game days, it's not the big a deal."
"how long did it take you?" "oh, 'bout two, maybe two and a half hours." callie's jaw drops at his answer. "dude i woulda just cheated my way out of it that's intense." she says, unwrapping her chipotle burrito.
"well it's not that bad when you're actually good at basketball." he says, smirking at her. "hey, i'm really not that bad!!" callie defends. tyler shrugs at her. "could you beat me in a game?" "well no, b-" "see."
callie sighs. "i was going to say no because you're just naturally gifted but whatever. maybe i just won't come to your game tonight." she throws out, folding her arms over her chest. tyler's mouth drops open. "callie you promised!! and it's the last game of the season!" he begs her. he's always wanted callie to come to one of his games, but she's always had something going on. tonight she finally didn't have any plans, so when tyler asked her if she could come and she said yes, he got so happy that he looked like he'd just gotten kissed by his crush. he made her promise to be there because if he's being honest, that's all he's wanted since the beginning of the season.
"i don't know..." she trails off with a smirk. tyler frowns. "come on callie, i know you're joking." "i don't know, am i?" "yes, you are because if you aren't, i'm not coming over tomorrow after school." "okay okay i'm joking. i'll be there tyler, don't worry. i'll even make a sign. oh, that's not a bad idea actually."
tyler laughs. "just don't make it too loud of a sign, like don't go too crazy." he tells her, opening his bag of chips as she raises her burrito to take another bite. she stops and lowers the burrito slowly as a smirk takes place on her lips. tyler's eyes widen. "no, don't you dare..."
~~~
"WOOOOOOO GO TYLER!!!!" callie yells from her place in the stands, holding her sign above her head. it says 'TYLER' in all caps and bright neon colors. she drew confetti and stuck glitter on the sign as well. tyler looks over in the direction of the sound and shakes his head with a smile upon seeing that she did, in fact, go crazy with the sign.
he keeps running after the ball with his teammates. his friend, nick, is guarding the player with the ball. said player shoots for the net, but nick jumps up and intercepts the throw, immediately sprinting and dribbling the ball over to the other side of the court.
tyler runs parallel to nick and stays at his pace. one of the other players runs ahead to guard tyler from rebounding. nick shoots the ball, but it hits the backboard and bounces off straight towards tyler. tyler fakes right and breaks left to get around the player in front of him, grabbing the ball and swiftly tossing it into the net, making the first shot of the night.
the crowd cheers, callie being the loudest of them all. "THAT'S MY BEST FRIEND!!!" tyler laughs before getting back to the game.
all my life~ tyler x oc (part 3)
march 10, 1999
"callie how do you math?"
"tyler, i'm a grade level behind you, i doubt i'll be able to help you."
"oh come on, you're a genius, can you at least try?"
after school, callie walked over to tyler's house to do homework with him. they'd been working really well for about fifteen minutes until tyler came across this one problem on his math worksheet that heâs pretty sure he did incorrectly.
"just because i'm almost ten like you doesn't mean i'll be able to do the math you're learning. i'm literally a year behind you. suddenly jumping into something i haven't even started learning yet won't end very well." she explains, trying to get him to let it go.
"or, it could go great if you're good at math. and, you just so happen to be good at math, so..." he trails off, looking at her with raised eyebrows and gesturing to his paper. callie rolls her eyes, sighing. "okay, i'll give it a try. but if i can't solve it, don't say i didn't tell you so, because i did." "yes!! thank you, you're the best." he says as he scoots his chair over to make room for hers.
she brings her pencil over and looks at the problem for a few seconds. tyler's eyes shift from her to the paper, watching the gears turn in her brain and waiting for her to get to some sort of conclusion. suddenly she pops up with some form of enlightenment written on her face. "oh, i know what you did. when you subtracted the fourteen from the twenty seven, you were one number off, nothing big. the answer is thirteen, you got twelve. but look, seven minus four is three, not two. two would be minus five." she points out.
tyler facepalms. "oh, yeah, stupid mistake. thanks callie. i told you you were a genius." callie sighs. "finding a stupid mistake isn't genius tyler, you probably could've found that yourself." "wait so you're calling me dumb?" "no, i just think you didn't bother to try and see what you did wrong, you just wanted my help." she says with a half as she picks her book up again and starts reading. tyler smiles at her for a few seconds before moving onto the next problem.
~~~~
"race you!!"
the two kids finished their homework about a minute ago and are now racing to the playground in the backyard. tyler swiftly turns the handle to the door that leads outside, flinging it open. callie closes the door and runs after the boy, determined to win. but, however, tyler reaches the slide and touches it before she can. "i win!" he says proudly. callie squints her eyes and hums in thought.
"yeah, to the slide." she says sneakily. tyler's eyes widen before the nine and a half year old girl leaps over to the ladder and touches it. "but i beat you to the ladder." she says with a smirk. "okay okay, we both win. but come here, i wanna show you something i found yesterday." the brunette boy urges her on as he makes his way towards the fence.
callie follows cluelessly behind him till he reaches the brown fence in the back of the yard. tyler looks back at her with a smirk before climbing up the fence and disappearing over the other side.
"tyler?" she calls as she looks through the cracks of two of the fence boards. a laugh erupts from above. she looks up to see tyler's head peeking over, looking down at her. "come on callie." she looks at him for a couple seconds before grabbing one of the horizontal boards and hosting herself up and over the fence. she swings a leg over and stands on another horizontal board, looking down at tyler on the ground.
he's still smiling up at her. "jump!" he tells her excitedly. a smile forms on her face as well as she holds her skirt to her legs so it won't fly up on her way down. her feet leave the fence, landing on the ground not a second later. she pushes herself up off the ground, brushing the dirt off her knees. she looks around in awe as she comes to a full stand.
he found a forest.
trees are everywhere she looks, tall and green, leaves in full bloom. there are so many trees that they've grown so close to each other and the leaves have grown in number, shrouding the ground and preventing much sunlight from lighting up anything under them.
"how long has this been here?" "i mean forever i guess, i just never explored it till a couple days ago."
callie spots a red string of yarn connected to the fence and leading into the forest, going who knows where.
tyler motions her along and starts walking in the path the yarn is making.
oh. tyler knows where.
the red line goes a good way into the thick of the forest, the fence getting further and further away from them. it winds left and right, and soon callie finds herself wondering what the heck is at the end of this thread.
when finally, she sees it. the biggest tree in the forest. the trunk is as wide as probably four kids standing side by side, it has thick branches scattered along the trunk, and looks to be a little taller than all the rest of the trees. but the tree isn't the coolest part of this, no.
what strikes her even more is the hanging ladder connected to a bunch of wooded boards about a third of the way up the tree.
it's a treehouse.
"oh my gosh." is all she can say. tyler's smile only grows by the second as he, too, looks up in amazement at the house in the tree. it's built in a circular shape around the trunk of the tree, with the ladder going with up the center, leading to a trapdoor.
without saying anything, he starts climbing up the ladder, eyes watching his feet and hands to make sure he doesn't misstep. callie doesn't hesitate to follow him up, smile plastered on her face.
once she reaches the top, tyler holds out his hand and helps her into it. the inside isn't too 'wow'ing, but callie has never seen a treehouse until today, so is enough to make her want to stay forever. "tyler this is incredible! how did you find this?" she asks, still amazed at what she's seeing.
"just kinda...stumbled upon it." he replies with a shrug, hands behind his back. callie spots a window near him and rushes over to it, looking out of it. she can see almost everything. the ground is far below them, a fall from this high could definitely result in an injury.
"how safe is this thing?" she asks, looking back at him. "it's pretty sturdy, i came up here yesterday and none of the boards creaked or anything." he says simply with a shrug. callie squints her eyes and nods slowly. "yeah....you know how long this has been here?" "nope." "well we should probably get someone who knows about this stuff so this thing can be stable enough so we don't fall to our deaths." she says, very sure of what she's saying.
tyler nods. "yeah that sounds like a good idea. falling to our deaths wouldn't be fun." "no it would not."
the kids carefully climb down the ladder and follow the red thread back to the outside of the forest. they hop the fence and run inside to tell tylerâs dad about the wonderful treehouse they found.
âyou found a what?â âa treehouse dad, a treehouse!â tyler replies excitedly. âa treehouse, huh? well letâs go have a look then.â he opens the door, the two kids bouncing out after him.
~~~ some days later ~~~
callie flops down onto the rug atop the wooden floors of the treehouse. âahh, this is nice.â she sighs, relaxing after a long day at school. tyler drops in the beanbag by the rug and lays there silently for several seconds. âthis is the coolest place now that we have chairs nâ pillows nâ stuff.â he remarks, his hands placed behind his head.
âoh yeah. this is the best treehouse ever.â callie agrees. âoh wait, how does the couch feel?â she says aloud as she sits up from her spot and darts over to the couch, sinking into it immediately with pleasure. âtyler this couch is the best, come sit!â âi would, but this beanbag is so comfy i donât wanna move.â he replies, closing his eyes for a few seconds.
âlazy butt.â âsass queen.â
march to the sea
a/n: so this is part of a collab i did with 13 other writers called the fourteen felonies. if youâre on instagram, search the hashtag #top14f and youâll find all our posts and explanations of what the collab is:))
third person p.o.v.
itâs that time of year again.
the time where they all march.
who march?
people selected at random.
how many?
in between one and two hundred men.
march where?
the sea.
why do they march?
thatâs the one question tyler doesnât know the answer to.
he was informed of the other three when he was selected. but when he had asked the question âwhyâ, he only got silence as an answer.
yet here they are, lining up and marching across the sand by the piers, along the line where the waves meet the shore, gently lapping up against the sand and receding again.
and he still doesnât know why he falls in line.
a week ago, when tyler received the letter in the mail telling him he had been chosen, the color drained from his parentsâ faces. he asked them why, and they wouldnât tell him anything other than âitâs not good.â
tyler didnât understand why they acted like that; he still doesnât. but here he stands now, marching with his troop. the officers gave everyone a loaded rifle and had taught them all to use it in the past week. this made tyler anxious. he asked the general if they would ever have to use them, and he assured tyler that they wouldnât.
but it seems highly unlikely. why would they teach them all how to handle a rifle and give them a loaded one if they werenât gonna have to use them? none of this has been settling well with tyler. the place theyâre at, their gear, the commanders and generals, everything just seems...off.
âmarch!â the commander yells. they all start marching, left right left right and so on. tyler looks out to his right, out into the ocean, and sees the loading dock of the boat that they came here on getting smaller and smaller as they travel farther and farther away from it.
two drops fall onto his arm. he looks up at the cloudy, gloomy, grey sky. he didnât even realize a storm was coming. okay something definitely doesnât feel right about this.
âeyes in front joseph. you could get a raindrop or two in that eye of yours if youâre not careful. and heaven forbid they see you cry.â his general scolds.
they?
tyler nods, contrary to his confusion. âyes sir.â he says as he focuses his eyes on the strangerâs back in front of him and grips his gun tighter in his hands out of anxiety.
the wind picks up quickly all of a sudden, sending a chilling shiver down his spine as his feet continue to carry him across the shoreline in sync with the others.
the wind blows heavily for about ten seconds before just up and stopping. it doesnât come to a slow or anything, it just abruptly stops, leaving everything in an eery silence.
the uneasiness in tylerâs stomach is overpowering. he slows his pace slightly and looks around cautiously. he turns to the man behind him. âshould we leave?â he asks the man. the manâs face remains barren of any emotion, almost robot-like as he recites âthis lineâs the only wayâ, causing tylerâs heart rate to spike.
he thinks he hears footsteps approaching from far away, but before he can turn and look, the commander shouts at him to keep his eyes focused forward.
he reluctantly complies as his stomach gets extremely nauseous. just as he takes a couple deep breaths in to calm himself, a gunshot goes off from afar. the line comes to a halt. tyler turns around just in time to see the very last person in the line drop down dead.
oh.
oh.
this is what his parents mustâve meant by not good.
but how did they know?
faint yells in the distance can be heard, confirming that there definitely is some hostile force heading towards them. he prepares to make a run for it, but the commander and general are yelling instructions at everyone.
âdo NOT step out of line! this line, the one you are standing in, is the ONLY WAY BACK. if you wanna get back to the loading dock, STAY. IN. LINE. and use those rifles!â
everyone turns around, staying in the same formation-only reversed now-and prepare their guns to fire. the mysterious enemy starts shooting again, hitting the men back and forth- injuring low to none, killing practically all. one by one the men in front of tyler drop like flies and soon there are only seven men left in front of him. tyler aligns his gun with his target in the far distance and pulls the trigger on his gun, only for it to crumble to sandy dust in his hands. his heart rate speeds up drastically and fear spikes in his chest.
this was obviously a trap.
his body becomes paralyzed with fear and he braces himself for impact as two more men fall to the ground, both dead. five left.
tyler feels a tap on his shoulder. he turns his head for a moment. âfollow me instead.â a whisper is spoken from the man behind him. tyler squints in confusion. âwhat?â âyou wanna get out of here without dying, right?â the man asks. he has dark brown curls, deep brown eyes, and is a good couple inches shorter than tyler. tyler nods as another person falls. four.
âfollow me then.â the man says. âwho are you?â tyler asks back as another drops dead. three. âiâm josh. you?â âtyler.â he breathes out, watching as two out of the three fall, one dead and one heavily injured. one.
tyler fails to slow his breathing as his mind spins violently. he doesnât know if he can trust this man right now, but he doesnât exactly have any other option. âi donât...i donât wanna march here anymore.â he says frantically to the man as they turn to the left and start walking into the water. âyou wonât have to. weâll make it back.â everyone else suddenly starts following tyler and joshâs movements and walk into the shallow water with them, still keeping the line formation. thatâs when the next gunshot goes off, causing the person in front of tyler to fall and lay there motionless, although the bullet only hits his leg.
âgo GO.â josh yells as he nudges tyler, dropping his gun and running for the loading dock with tyler, the door still wide open as it was when they left it. itâs not too far out in the ocean, so they only have so far to go until they reach the safe haven. the rest of the line, which is about only fifty or so more people, once again follow the lead of the two boys.
but they still show no emotion.
âitâs like theyâre brainwashed or something.â tyler points out as he and josh run for their lives, dodging bullets left and right. âthatâs exactly what it is.â josh replies simply. tyler almost stops. âwhat?â âtheyâre brai-â heâs cut off by three bullets pelting his leg, taking him out. this time tyler does stop in his tracks, running down to joshâs side immediately. he grabs joshâs arm and pulls him up to a stand.
heâs not leaving without josh. even if it makes everything more dangerous, he canât leave without this boy.
josh can only walk on his left leg since his right one got shot three times in almost the same spot on his thigh. tyler brings joshâs left arm around his shoulder and puts his own right arm around him. together they both make their way to the loading dock as quickly as they can. they only have about seven more feet to go before two more gunshots go off, the bullets pelting tylerâs upper back, behind his lung. tyler lets out a cry of pain as his body jerks forward and collides with the hard surface of the wild ocean water. âTYLER!â he hears josh yell before his head is submerged under the now reckless waves of the heavy storm.
his vision turns spotty at the edges and he can tell heâs starting to lose consciousness, probably from the loss of blood in his back. he tries to lift himself up above the water, getting to the point where his eyes and nose breach the surface. heâs able to get in a quick breath through his nose before a wave crashes into his face, pushing him back down.
tyler tries to hold onto the air he has as he fights the raging waves. his lungs are on fire, screaming for oxygen. to his relief, he soon feels a pair of arms reach down and struggle to pull him back above the waves. once his head brakes surface, he takes in a huge gulp of air, as big as he can get without hurting anything, followed by fits of coughing from the water he accidentally inhaled on impact. josh is standing on one leg with both his arms around tyler to help hold him up.
âcome on man we can do this. just a few more steps.â josh encourages. tyler nods as his chest heaves to gain the oxygen that it can. he looks down at joshâs leg, which is now bleeding significantly more than it was the previous time he looked at it, leading tyler to believe his wound is just as bad. the men around and behind the the two boys continue to rapidly collapse into the rough waves as the boys finally fall into the loading dock. tyler collapses onto his stomach as josh drags his way over to the side of the boat and quickly hits a button on the wall to seal the door.
tyler looks out the closing door of the boat, squinting, and sees the ocean water tainted red from all the blood of the men, now lying in their ocean graves. âwhat the heck...â he mutters. âoh my god.â josh says as he stares out the door in horror. âthey killed all of them.â
tyler stares the scene in front of them in disbelief as the door slowly goes up and up until the light of day is no longer seen. he rolls onto his back as his vision starts turning spotty. he looks up at the boy...josh, for a moment more. josh looks back down at him and gives him one of the warmest smiles heâs ever received.
thatâs he last thing he sees before blacking out.
~~~~
tyler wakes up to the harsh voice of his general yelling at everyone to âget the heck out of bed because theyâre got a big day ahead of themâ, only he didnât use âheckâ.
tylerâs heart sinks down to his feet. that was a dream?
he really should be thankful that he didnât actually get shot, but all he can think about is that boy from his dream and what he said. was the boy made up by his own mind? or is he an actual soldier in tylerâs regiment? is everything that happened in his mind going to happen now?
tyler slips his shirt over his head and pulls it down over his stomach, scanning the room of men in hopes to find someone who looks even remotely similar to the boy from his dreams. he stares everyone down, taking in every detail, but itâs no use. the boy is nowhere to be found.
tyler brushes his teeth quickly and shuffles out of the room with all the other walkers. they file slowly out the door, gnawing on tylerâs patience, wearing it down. once he gets through, he sharply turns a corner just as someone else does. he runs into them pretty hard, both of them stumbling back a couple steps.
âoh man iâm so s-...â
the man stops mid sentence with a shocked expression on his face. tylerâs face probably looks equally as surprised. brown curls, dark brown eyes; exactly how he looked in tylerâs dream. they look at each other like that for a good ten seconds before the boy in front of him speaks up.
âtyler, right?â tyler nods slowly. âyeah, youâre josh?â he says more than asks. josh nods in reply.
âiâm assuming we had the same dream then.â tyler states. another nod from the dark haired man.
josh breathes out sharply. âokay yeah this is a little weird.â tyler nods again. âdo you really think...all of that is actually gonna happen....today?â âlook, i really have no idea.â tyler nods, sort of dazed about this whole situation. âokay, should we just...see what happens then?â
josh sighs. âi guess so. i donât know what events are gonna play out, but i sure hope theyâre not gonna be like that.â tyler nods immediately in agreement. âyeah, that would be nice.â
after a few more minutes, the boys figure they should probably get in line with the other walkers. theyâre handed their guns and are all commanded to start walking along the shores.
tyler thought he had escaped this. he thought heâd been saved. but once again, here he is. he feels as if he were picked up and carefully placed back in his spot.
once again, he will be on a march to the sea.
end.

all my life (part two)
july 19, 1996
"why are you so FAST? UGH."
callie, tyler, and his two younger siblings have been playing freeze tag for the past hour in tyler's backyard while their parents sit inside, having a peaceful conversation.
maddy, tyler's three year old sister, hasn't really been playing. she's just been kinda wandering around, laughing, and occasionally joining in on running while the older three kids keep an eye on her.
callie runs as fast as she can, and it's almost enough to catch tyler. almost. as she desperately reaches out to tag him, her hand barely grazes the back of his t-shirt before he suddenly speeds up, running out of her reach. she sighs and pants as she rests her hands on her legs, bending over to catch her breath. she looks behind her to see tyler's six year old brother zack standing right behind her. he screams and darts away from her, although she's hot on his tail. once she gets close to him, she slows her pace to make it seem like he's faster than her.
"i almost got you zack!" she says sneakily as she slowly increases her speed. "no you don't!! i'm the fastest of anyone!!!" he says with a laugh as he continues running at what he calls 'super mario speed'.
callie smiles as she reaches out a hand and taps his back. "nOOOOOOO!!" he cries with defeat as he freezes where he stands. callie laughs to herself. "your 'super mario speed' is no match for the all powerful callie!!" she places her hands in her hips.
"but the all powerful callie didn't tag everyone yet!" another voice cries from a small distance behind her. she turns around to see tyler running towards his brother to unfreeze him. callie smirks as she develops a plan in her mind.
she puts her hands behind her back and waits. tyler gets closer and closer to his brother, yet she does nothing. finally, when zack is within arm's reach of tyler, callie darts forward and tackles him. "no!! not tyler too!" zack cries as he slumps in defeat. callie pulls herself to a quick stand, looming over tyler with a victorious smirk, crossing her arms over her chest.
tyler lays on the ground, frozen, catching his breath. "what was it you said about me not having tagged everyone yet?" tyler sighs. "i guess you-" he's interrupted by the joyous sounds of maddy stumbling towards them, laughing.
tyler's face lights up. "maddy!! come here, hit my arm!" he reaches out towards her. maddie stops and looks at her older brother. callie's eyes widen. zack straightens himself up. "come on maddy!" they cheer her on and motion her closer. she smiles and starts walking to tyler.
"come to callie, maddy!" callie intervenes, squatting in front of the boys with her arms wide open. maddy stops once again, looking from callie to tyler to zack, before a giggle escapes her lips and she begins taking steps again.
she stumbles into callie's arms as they close around her. callie laughs and stands up, holding maddy tightly as she smiles with glee in the older girl's arms. callie smiles at the two boys. "well, game over." she looks at maddy. the three year old looks at callie with her ever bright smile, her baby teeth showing through.
"dame ober!!" the toddler says, lifting her arms up in the air in victory. callie laughs. tyler and zack share a groan before the back door opens. "you kids having fun?" the moms peek out the doorframe. "mom, i beat both of them in freeze tag!!" the seven year old girl exclaims excitedly, letting maddy down to run to her mother.
"that's nice dear. daddy's gonna be home soon, so we better head back. tell mrs. joseph thank you and say bye to your friends." her mom says with a smile before returning inside. callie does as told and heads inside along with tyler and zack.
"you guys are welcome anytime you want, just as long as we're in town." tyler's mom informs them with a laugh. "thank you kelly, we look forward to seeing you guys again soon!"
"bye tyler, bye zack!" callie calls as the front door slowly closes. the boys say goodbye in return and wave before the door shuts all the way.

all my life~ tyler joseph x oc
july 16, 1996
"mom what's that?"
"that's a moving van, callie."
the 7 year old girl with long, brown hair and light green eyes watches from the bay window by the dining area as a big truck stops at the house just across the street from hers. five men crowd around the back of the truck and wait as the back opens. once it does, they reach inside and haul various pieces of furniture into said house across the street.
after the first two men bring the couch inside, a family follows them out of the house. "are those people gonna be our neighbors mommy?" callie asks eagerly, pointing at the family of six helping the moving people with their furniture.
the mother nods as she prepares the chicken pot pie to be served. "yes cal, they're our new neighbors. we can go give them a visit later after the men finish moving everything into their house." callie's smile grows as she spots a little boy with brown hair. that's about all she can tell about him from the distance between them right now, but he sparked her interest for some reason. and she wants to know more about him.
suddenly, the seven year old leaps up from her spot, dashes to the front door, turns the knob, and runs out of the house. her mother looks back at the door her. "callie? CALLIE! i said later, get back here right now!!" she drops the dishing spoon and runs after her seven year old mischief maker.
the little girl quickly glances both ways for cars before dashing across the street in a flurry of excitement. she reaches the other side of the street in a matter of seconds, eager to make new friends. however, her high hopes of a good first impression are lowered as she trips over the curb, falling flat onto the sidewalk.
"are you okay?" a small, concerned voice calls from above her. she pushes herself up with her arms and brushes herself off before looking up at the source of the voice. it was the boy she spotted from her window. he sets down a chair momentarily as he walks forward to her. "yeah, i'm good." callie replies with a smile.
"are you sure? because you're bleeding." the boy points out, gesturing towards her arms. she follows with her eyes and finds that indeed, her collision with the concrete had broken the skin on her palms and drawn a little blood from a couple spots on her arms.
"oh it's nothing, my mom can fix it." she brushes off his concern once more. the boy doesn't look very convinced, but offers his small hand out towards her. "my name's tyler. what's your name?" the girl shakes his hand a couple times. "i'm-"
"CALLIE!" her mom calls as she nears her little girl quickly. the children turn their heads towards her immediately. "callie you're not supposed to run off like that baby, you could get hurt." she tells her daughter somewhat firmly before her eyes spot the small injuries on the girl's arms. she sighs and shakes her head in disappointment. "and look what happened. i'm so sorry, was she bothering you?" the mother turns to the boy now.
"oh no, i was just seeing if she was okay ma'am, she's fine." he answers sincerely, throwing a small smile at the girl. she smiles in return.
"alright. well callie, honey, dinner's ready now. how bout we head back in, huh? i'm sure you'll be seeing your new friend more often." she tells her daughter sweetly. callie nods. "okay mommy."
her mom smiles and grabs her daughter's hand, walking with her back towards their house. callie looks behind her and waves to the boy. "bye tyler!" she says cheerily. he gives a small wave in return. "bye callie!"
to be continued...
