Possible ending to Linnie's story

So this is a bit of a theory about what the games ending could be.

Since this is somewhat dark and ties in to the Gethsemane comic I'll put this under a cut.

The Deal with Dura:

This deal was initiated by the MS. He pleads Dura to make his soul reincarnate so that Esperia could be safeguarded from the horrors of the Immortal war.

She agrees but on the conditions that he follows her orders to strike down any failures and act as another messenger for her when she wishes to communicate with the future reincarnations. This is why Linnie has "hallucinations" of conversations with him. Also why both Charon and Ludos died in mysterious circumstances.

During the first divine war, Dura, after seeing how bad the war is and how the original plan was not going to work, hatches a plan in order to seal Annih and the Hypogeans away forever, however, she does not give the MS the full plan. She requests the MS to guide his incarnations to locate the divine swords, their bearers and keep an eye on the current hypogean seals. The largest one being the Barred Gate (taken from arena).

Once the time is right, she will send the MS to deliver her ultimatum at the Barred Gate.

She intends to destroy/permanently seal it on Esperia's side so the hypogeans cant get through. This spell however, requires a powerful soul to be consumed since it tampers directly with the fabric of reality and something that Annih created. Gods do not have souls to use. Celestials souls are in a state that cannot be used. A soul that is old and powerful like the Arcane Soul will suffice.

Dura keeps this a secret until she tells the MS to deliver the news to Linnie.

Charon is the first Merlin to be asked to burn up the Arcane Soul. He was only told by Dura and he refused. He did not like the idea of Dura telling him what to do. He'd rather listen to Misarte or no-one at all. It really clashes with his carefree nature and because of this, Dura deems Charon as a failure, effectively sentencing him to death.

Meredith and Beatrice might have figured it out on their own but kept quiet. Meredith understanding the gravity of the situation being the merlin to fight in the first divine war and Beatrice accepting it because of how much a devout follower of Dura she is.

The rest I will leave up to your interpretation unless you want to read the drabble I have here about this theoretical ending.

Headcanons for the time at the Lyceum.

As a student:

-Linnie was the quiet straight a student. Who was actually just incredibly scatterbrained from his memory issues and only just holding it together. Cyran was the only one who got to see that side of him. Well at least the one of his other peers.

-Linnie didn’t have many friends when at the Lyceum. Almost everyone else ostracised him. I imagine that the lyceum used to be like the rich kids school. Then along comes Linnie, there on scholarship from a poor background. The news didn't stay secret for long. Some people were more amicable, but they're more like acquaintances than friends.

As a Professor:

-Those who pulled tricks would be dealt with harshly. He'd be very supportive of those showing promise or strong desires to learn. If he personally tutored other students, he'd be rather strict with them. He had to with Mirael to be able to let her keep her place at the lyceum and that transferred to any other students who had his direct tutelage. He uses a lot of practical based lessons to keep things engaging. He also helps out struggling or problem students.

Additional information about the length of the time spent at the Lyceum is below the cut!

-The Lyceum's courses takes roughly between 5 to 10 years. And takes students as young as 10 to 16 on their 10yr course. Then for their 5yr course, as young as 15 to about 21.

-So for example: Linnie was accepted at 15 alongside Cyran. They both graduated at 25 with Linnie starting to show the first signs of Merlin's Mark.

-The course was as follows: 1yr as an apprentice, 3yrs as intermediate, 3yrs as advanced, 3yrs at master.

Linnie's amnesia.

So we all know that Merlin's amnesia isn't exactly explained. Here's what I came up with to fill the void.

This is a lot of info so it's under the cut!

-His amnesia is caused by a Hypogean curse. One designed to weaken him. It goes through cycles. Becoming stronger to strip merlins memories and power away from him and then weakens over time as he gets those back. It is also the cause of his heterochromatic eyes and his changes back to his younger looking self. He looks around 20-23 at the reset and with enough memories to trigger his true from coming back he looks to be 30+

-Cyran was involved with the casting of the curse. He used his ability to stop a mage from using magic to make sure that Linnie couldn’t fight back.

-Cyran didn’t cast the curse. A hypogean did. This hypogean pulled the Great Will card on Cyran to get him to be involved so Cyran’s wish to be the best could be achieved. A kill two birds with one stone type of deal. Hypogeans and Cyran want him gone.

-The curse was originally designed to not only weaken Linnie but corrupt him. Either until he dies or he is turned into a Hypofiend.

-Despite this. Dura and/or the Celestials pour enough divine energy into him to seal the corruption away but unfortunately the damage had been done. They cannot reverse the memory and power removal.

-The curse has cycles. It activates causing his problems and then recuperates to wipe his memory again at some later date.

-When it has recently reset Linnie is disorientated, prone to dissociating and has low energy, both magical and non-magical.

-When a reset is imminent Linnie becomes fatigued, dissociative and has a loss of both cognitive and motor skills. It causes him to become incredibly irritable.

-Memory and power recovery are not pleasant. It causes his left eye to ache, sometimes feeling like it is being stabbed and causes it to become bloodshot and bleed depending on the scale of the memory gain.

-Every time the curse resets. he looses something permanently. Be that memories, powers or both.

Headcanons about season development:

So these are what each season changes about Linnie and what he gets back per adventure. With some additional information about his demeanour. Contains spoilers for Echoes of Dissent!

-In the starter story he is very disorientated, grumpy and fatigued. Things come back at the most inconvenient times, like Merediths memory about Berial. He is stubbly, blond haired, left eye is purple. Blue and red default outfit.

-In SOS he gains the scar below his eye during the first fight with Berial. He is not fatigued nor disorientated anymore however, his imposter syndrome acts up. His left eye has a few specks of gold in it now. He stays in the default blue and red outfit.

-In WOI he starts to get a bit tired, mentally. This season messes with his trust and continues to make his imposter syndrome act up. Tasi reminding him of his duty sparks a hint of what maybe happened to Charon. He changes to the brown outfit with the green scarf. His hair has started to turn white.

-In COE he is mentally tired, wants a break. This season brings so much back to him. He remembers how he met Mirael, remembers fragments of Kirsty’s life. She is partly why he is so angry (causing him to recall a lot of magic) at Cryonaia. The conversation with the god of death sparks more memory stuff. Namely a fragment of the MS or Meredith imploring the god of death to forge the sword for Valka. Still in the brown outfit, now pins a sapphirine to the lapel. His hair is white streaked. His eye now has a gold ring around the pupil and outer edge of the iris.

-In EOD Linnie is still tired but being with Hogan cheers him up. He is forced to use a lot of magic to keep Hogan safe, to find everything out, that his hair is now more white than blond. Azkarion ‘sol’s comment of immaculate one and talking about the seed of life and Yggdrasil reminds him of Tasi’s message and it confuses him, how all these beings know that he is Merlin. Feli’s death causes him to summon the sword for the first time in 20 years in a fit of rage. Also causes the seal over his curse to almost break( a combination of grief and all the corruption around), warranting a stern talking to from the MS. He starts in the brown outfit but changes to the one he used in battle during the second divine war. His hair is almost white, his eye has not changed. No major memories were recovered in this season.

Some of Linnie's Headcanons:

We got some basic and silly ones here.

-He is pretty quiet and soft spoken. Spooks easily, is shy and painfully socially awkward. He can however be quippy and a smartass if he is in a foul mood. Doesn’t like to talk about his feelings but does it anyways typically winds up to his detriment. Has major fear of being inadequate.

-Due to being a powerful mage, his lifespan is extended greatly/ageing is slowed down dramatically; he probably could live to 200.

-He likes olive and sky blue/cobalt. Used to like Forest green and purple but those colours leave a bad taste in his mouth now.

-He can play the flute surprisingly well. Same with dancing.

-Mini Linnie: Mini-Linnie will affectionately bug people. He's basically like a glorified lap cat. He'll get upset if he doesn't get either cuddles or naps in peoples hair. He will wail and wail (maybe even get violent) if he gets pulled away from any of the following: Hogan, Mirael, Cyran.

I have some more stuff I’d like to get out eventually and maybe make a master post for this stuff to organise all the lore. Maybe I’ll just do some lore dumps?

The Swordbearers, or Dura's (apparent) Holy Mission

I am FINALLY DONE!!! Here I proudly present my entry for the fanart contest for AFK Journey and its new season Echoes of Dissent !!

My beloved Sworbearers, damned if I understand what the deal with them is but I'm dammed twice if I don't love it. I love stories where you have to gather a team of different and various characters and they all have different background and origin and personality and they have to form a team to save the world!!! which is something that i hope we get in the game?? idk if we will, i don't know if they'll ever even meet each other but i like them anyhow (also Valka my beloved my love my fav my graveborn my all i will always love u and the archetype of your character) (i also love u indris i love u temesia i love u sinbad (i think u can see my type now))

anyway I am very happy to have finally motivated myself enough to create some art and i had a lot of fun. I was, if it wasn't obvious, heavily inspired by the stained glass artworks in the Resonating Hall in the game, i've always loved that kind of art

Can you explain a bit what truly happened in the Gethsemane comic of yours ?

It's pretty dark... imo... and I noticed that the Merlin Incantations of Magister Linnie's universe slowly... Fallen... Tragically...

Good question!

Firstly this comic is an argument between Linnie/The Magister Supreme and Dura after she orders The Magister Supreme to deliver her ultimatum to him.

I Included the fates of The Magister Supreme, Meredith, Ludos, Leo, Rhosdyn, Beatrice and Charon to show the sacrifices made by them that would be thrown away by Duras actions. But to also hint at Dura having more control over Merlin than we see. She is the reason both Ludos and Charon meet untimely ends as those two are seen as failures in her eyes. I can go into detail in other post if you so wish.

Dura needed the Arcane Soul to reincarnate at least eight times before being deemed usable. The very last page depicts Linnie fulfilling Duras wishes.

This is my current interpretation of what could happen at endgame and much more information could be seen as spoilers. Although, I could post the drabble I have written to better show rather than tell you if you would be interested.

In all honesty the comic's events are not in chronological order and one page isn't technically canon to the main Favoured Luminary universe, it actually belongs to the Corrupted AU.

But that can again be dealt with in another post.
