online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.

and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.

there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.

Ratio and Aventurine taking care of three black catcakes is the absolute cutest thing ever.

They take after their dads, obviously.

Every so often the three black catcakes travel to Herta Space Station to spend time with other catcakes for enrichment. And every time they bring terrible to their fellows, because they themselves have gotten very good at bluffing, games of chance, and winning really petty and pedantic debates.

I like to think that Ratio wore normal jackets and lab gear and blazers before he fell in with the Stonehearts.

Then the events of The Final Victor happened, and he went to his first Strategic Investment Division meeting, and Topaz was like what the hell do you think you’re wearing.

And then Ratio was like, what the hell do you think you’re wearing?

And Topaz was like, duh, my business short-shorts with side cut-outs, obviously???

And who was Ratio to second-guess the Strategic Investment Department’s idea of appropriate work attire? It’s not like he has a wealth of friendly colleagues. Or really any friendly colleagues. Or friends. And Topaz is probably the most sensible person in Pier Point.

Which is how Ratio bought a slutty boob window toga and found his people and stopped being sad that the Genius Society won’t let him sit at their lunch table, the end.

Ratio/Aventurine didn’t fully come together for me until I realized that this is just a really gay James Bond story.

Ratio is the hot scientist who somehow got sucked into a relationship with 007, and is tying to keep up.

Okay it's four in the morning and I'm not entirely right in the head and I absolutely have not thought through the ramifications of this in its entirety, but

Garleans can't use aether, but they can affect and be affected by dynamis. we've seen this in canon.

Culturally Garleans seem to have a lot of emotional repression, breaking through only when pushed to extremes, which has no doubt prevented them from actualizing the combat potential of dynamis in the past. There is now an opportunity for this to change.

as they rebuild and reform their culture we should see Garlean bards becoming a thing, and they should invent heavy metal

Don’t mind me, I’m just having some feelings about the fact that little baby lieutenant Jing Yuan would easily have been the least famous HCQ member.

And then, eight hundred years later.
