Photographer/Artist Spotlight:
Koyorin
Koyorin is a female artist who is an illustrator based in Toronto Canada. She developed a skillset from working on 2D illustrations and mixing then with animation elements. She is currently a freelance artist. As of now she only produces private work, but she does display her gallery online for other artists to view.
Koyorin’s work is based on cyberpunk, streetstyle/streetwear/, and 2d illustrations. Her work very attractive due to several elements that she likes to include. Such elements are realistic human forms, cybertech wear/appearance and apparel on her characters,  but also most importantly a bright color palette. She would take colors that compliment each other and have them a bright spectrum that emulates digital neon. Koyorins work also inspires me because of the different approach artists are able to take with the cyberpunk theme, be it the environment, futuristic cities, the apparel, or even smaller details such as Koyorins color palette.
The art piece below is the one that first introduced me to her works.

Gharliera
Gharliera is a Cyberpunk South Korean Artist who has been on a upward scale of population. Their work is mainly combining the cyberpunk theme and integrating it into Asian culture elements, such as inspiration from Japanese masks, to futuristic concepts like cybernetics, weapons, and so forth. In a interview by the ForTheWolvesHQ, Gharliera was interviewed and she gave some things that inspire her work,” The big category is movie, music, and travel. I think it is important to draw many artworks but also where the artist is inspired so I try to be stimulated in various fields. Music is also very helpful to me. I respect musicians as much as a good illustrator.”
I was very entrapped in Gharliera’s work because it is something I myself want to create later on. I think it’s a very strong ability to be able to modernize several concepts, and Gharliera being able to modernize her Korean background while also modernizing other cultures such as Japan’s is a huge feat. Japan is a cliché thing to use just because its been done so long, but a lot of artists including myself are very fascinated by by their past and present ideas, such as the idea before of using machinery to create industrial suits, or the entire concept of futuristic cities like flying cars and LED/Neon street signs.
Below are a selection of works that I’ve been strongly attracted to before. The work with the female figure with two faces is a combination concept of Gharliera’s style mixed with another Asian artist’s work Junji Ito.

Sui Ishida
Sui Ishida is a known Japanese Manga Artist who specializes in dark genre animations. Sui Ishida is most popular for his series called Tokyo Ghoul which was released in the years between 2012-2014, and followed a continuation of new seasons. The best part about Ishida’s work is that hes able to compose excellent stories but also his art work and style are very captivating. His art style consists of using watercolor and his color choice varies on a theme he settles on. He likes to use anything from a dark tone to pastel, but with the water color already flat as it is, when he switches to a colorful tone the artwork is immediately given more life. He’s also used his style in other clients works such as the artist Miyavi’s album ‘No Sleep Till Tokyo, TK’s album Ling Tosite Sigure’s Sainou, Co Shu Nie’s Asphyxia, and the NieR: Autmoata Series’ original soundtrack.
All of Sui Ishida’s work is an inspiration to me because hes able to digitalize a technique that looks very raw. Digital drawing itself and conventional hand tools produce different textures and forms, and the work that Sui Ishida makes is very beautiful because it retains the stroke and opacity that you’d only get from a brush.

Photographer/Artist Spotlight:
Ryohei Fuke
Ryohei Fuke is an artist based in Tokyo, Japan. He is mostly known by his artist name which is “Huke”, it is a mixture of his first and last name. Not much is known about Huke’s history, specific details in fact, but he is a graduate from an animation college in Tokyo, and from then on his used his profession to join a gaming company, he in particular specialized in character development and design. Huke later on left the said company and became a freelance designer, however he didn’t leave empty handed as he still used his animation development skills to further improve his own personal work.
In 2007, Huke created an original female character named ‘Black Rock Shooter,’ and this character’s art style influenced another of his personal projects creating another female character called Ryo, which became an animated character/face for a group called Supercell. Supercell then produced a same song called Black Rock Shooter, which is based on the female character, and from then on an animation adaption was created for Black Rock Shooter, and a video game.
The Black Rock Shooter character became a large inspiration to my art style today, because at the time it was being produced, I was already invested into the character when it first appeared. The medium that Huke used to create the character was a big inspiration to me cause of how it is textured. The character is hand-drawn and then later moved to photoshop to be colored and refined, but the main attraction of Huke’s art style is that it retains a rawness to it that mimics realistic metals and brush texture. The character Black Rock Shooter is also a fictional character based in a dreamy conscious-sque world that uses multiple shade of blue, to black as each character is themed with a certain color palette in that character’s universe. Continuing, with the mixture of the color pallet, there are also silvers, and so this further developed the theme of the character appearing into checkered environments, and the checkered pattern is something I draw huge inspiration from.

Photographer/Artist Spotlight:
Vincent Cianni
Vincent Cianni is a graduate from the University of Penn State University, Maryland Institute’s College of Art, and also SUNY New Paltz. Vincent Cianni today currently resides in New York City, and he also is a teacher and professor at The New School for Design in NYC. Vincent Cianni’s work consists of taking photographs along the topics relating to Community, Memory, and also social justice issues. He tries to convey his message through various platforms and mediums such as images, text, and audio. We students of Fresno State University were also given the opportunity to have the experience of meeting and speaking with Vincent Cianni.
One of Vincent Cianni's famous works is his book called: ‘We Skate Hardcore.’ The book ‘We Skate Hardcore’ was a book that documented the underground skating scene in the year of 1993, that year was also the year that Cianni recently moved to NYC. He in particular moved into the neighborhood on the Southside of Williamburg in Brooklyn, NY. This work originally started by Cianni simply taking in his new surroundings in his new residence, and in particular he was nearby a skatepark where he saw the same group of children and teenagers skating and practicing everyday. An important detail that shouldn’t be left out is that he documented this same group of people for atleast 9 years, and in that decade he saw this group become proficient in their art, and also saw this group physically grow up and experience the changes of  their area with them together. Eventually these children and teenagers grew to become their own persons and either continued to seek their profession they were so determined to accomplished or move onto a new craft.
I thought that “We Skate Hardcore” was a fantastic read. Because not only does it document Cianni’s time in NYC, it also gives a realistic approach to the environment that Cianni was surrounded with. The work itself didn’t feel forced, and it also documented real time events happening around the group he was documenting, such as new areas being rebuild for newer buildings, areas that the children and teens skated in becoming renovated and the possibility of having to relocate. The skating scene also has other artists that documented their experience with their growth or others growth with the sport, and I feel Cianni’s work might have been an inspiration or had an impact on the genre. The style of the book is similar to trends that are still present today such as particular shots of the skaters in action from certain angles like rolling or from below in the air, the color palette as well is also into consideration, as the book contained images that were grayscale or browned due to the old camera equipment at the time. This style is overall still being used today, albeit more so modernized or trying to mimic the now retro photography and videography.

Project Proposal #2
This next work is a compilation of photos trying to grasp the natural feeling of simply enjoying a weekend through the perspective of riding bikes and POV concept. I wanted to create this work because in a previous project, I rediscovered finding my old bike(Revisiting an old friend), however I wasn’t satisfied with the content, as I removed a lot, therefore this project is a continuation of the previous work, mainly riding. These photos were taken with a few concepts in mind, such as natural events(other people enjoying the day), weather conditions, and POV portraits. I will especially try to incorporate POV angles to give a perspective of how I perceive things.

Photographer/Artist Spotlight:
Yuko Shimizu
Yuko Shimizu is a Japanese Woman who was born in 1965 in Tokyo, Japan. She is currently based in New York City, and her residency there is due to the influence that Japanese heritage and culture has spread far from Japan itself. Shimizu’s work is based on a wide variety of social issues such as cultural identity, race, and sex.  As of today, Shimizu would be in her 50’s, and throughout her life, she currently is a multi-award-winning Japanese illustrator, along with being a two-time Hugo Award nominee in the years of 2019 and 2020. She has also has been awarded the Caldecott Honor in 2021, which is one of the highest awards available for pictures books for her children’s book: The Cat Man of Aleppo.
Shimizu’s mediums consist of blending traditional hand-drawn styles and mixing it with digital software. She often uses traditional Japanese calligraphy brushes, and in some works she translates the work to woodblock prints.
One of her Shimizu’s work that has highly influenced me is her piece titled: DJ GEISHA
The DJ GEISHA was produced in the year 2008, and it is a work produced with the medium of using the traditional method of using brushes and then later on translated to digital platform for further coloring and development. This work was awarded the: Society of Illustrators 50(2008). It was released as a package design and book, not much is known about the original sizing as the composition is based mainly in its design book.
Yuko Shimizu was famous for combining Japanese culture and tradition and taking that root and expanding it to other modern concepts. The DJ GEISHA is one of the biggest inspirations of my life, because I often ran on the thought of finding new ways to also modernize my own heritage and culture as well, and to see an artist make an art piece that did both and still become relevant in the test of time is astonishing to me. I am also inspired by Japanese elements such as the beforementioned Geishas, Shogun, Bushido, Masks, other various parts of the culture. One of my other hobbies is also music, and the DJ GEISHA is like a mix of two worlds that I thought I’d never see a representation of.

Photographer/Videographer Spotlight:
Mike Adamson (DIVINE Media)
Mike Adamson is a young photographer/videographer who began the career in 2013. He is originally from the area of Connecticut, but now currently resides in Orlando Florida as Professional Drifter Adam LZ’s personal filmer. Mike’s early work takes heavy inspiration from underground cinematic works made in the years of 2014 to 2016, often utilizing the skater center focus with distorted surrounds, or using cold color palettes similar to fall. His previous residence in Connecticut help developed his early style easier since the climate in that area is generally very cold, producing a lot of blue tints due to frequent overcast and snow. His recent works now are more catered to his clients, his main being Adam LZ since Mike is his personal Filmer. He utilizes Florida’s warm climate but expanding out the oranges and yellows in his recent works due to Florida’s vastly warmer weather compared to Connecticut.
His Gear consists vastly from a Sony A7SII to a Red Cinematic: Red Kimodo. The Sony A7SII was his primary photography camera, mainly utilizing it for his own branding and poster prints. The Red Kimodo is his Primary for videography, he mainly uses it to film on racetracks or special events that require online streaming, promotion videos, and capturing.
Divine is like someone who I watched grow up although he is older than me. His early works are what I first discovered, and they encapsuled a visual that I thought heavily were suited to my taste. I was also inspired by the underground visuals of 2014-2016, but yet I was inexperienced and didn’t have the opportunities to have an interest in photography or videography. Divine Media’s early works are what I wanted my works to look like when I either began or refined later on. I also enjoyed the darker tone settings mixed with the balance of sunlight to contrast the cold environment to the sun’s warm tone of color.
He is often compared to other famous content creators of his generation like Krispy Media and Halcyon

Class project #4: Make your own theme
BMX,Biking
I was inspired while reading and looking at the book “We Skate Hardcore,” and I really liked the Urban theme and vibe of the piece. I used to be heavily invested into BMX and so I want to do a sort of concept where every piece of mechanical part of a bike I or the character touches, its like the memories stored in that object come flooding into the holder and shows them a brief critical moment, like an essential memory that exists. It would sort of be like a gallery in a game where you can go and revisit cutscenes. I want to include moments like riding in random areas, areas that proved challenging, attempting to do tricks, reassembling bikes, changing out bike tubes, adjusting brakes and seats, learning how to ride, teaching others how to ride, or even spray painting. I could also include moments like going into actual bike shops or urban themed stores like Tilly's and Zumiez that adhere to the urban and street style clothing. Those stores also sell merch or supplies to upgrade bikes and boards. I can capture interactions that would show development.
