ranting a bit but the last year of grad school is so fucking insane, i'm genuinely five seconds from just throwing it all to the wind and just giving up lmao how am i supposed to write a thesis, study for the bar (or my country's version of the bar at least) and still attend classes normally, study for tests and assignments, do well in my internship, and finish all my extra hours like

there's so much to write, there's so much to read, there's so little i know of what's going to happen to me

I know that everyone has realized this already but I absolutely love how on such a confusing album, she gave us a through line to understanding through the track 5s.

So Long London & How Did it End being the most directly about Joe & being the track 5s is such a lovely way for her to say, “this is what was behind it all. This is what I was really so upset about.”

I know it sours the song a bit for y'all because the fandom still hates his ass but The Alchemy is definetly supposed to be just as ambiguous about Travis/Matty as some other songs are about Matty/Joe

In bdilh she's singing "thinking it can change the beat/ of my heart when he touches me/ and counteract the chemistry/ and undo the destiny" which parallels "this happens once every few lifetimes/ these chemicals hit me like white wine"

There's also many references that don't seem to properly fit Travis too. At the start of the song Taylor is singing about being back and waking up from a hospital/long sleep, which could easily be read as her period of 'public inactivity' and the start of the tour. Sure, one could maybe argue that refers to romantic life too, but from all we know when she met Travis things were everything if not completely chaotic for her.

Furthermore, she sings "'cause the sign on your heart said it's still reserved for me" which clearly implies someone she had a previous relationship with some time before 'coming back'. The same with the heroin joke, it's heroin but THIS TIME with an e, so the person making the joke seems to have at least a previous experience with heroin.

And then again, the picture she's creating at the end of the song (of floors sticky with beer, someone being lift up shirtless) is at first glance of a football match but are all descriptors easily applied to festivals and concerts.

Ok, my point in all of this is to say that the more I listen to this album the muddier the muses become and I feel that's exactly the thesis of the whole album.

I’m too tired to do this but How Did It End really is the story from beginning to end. The mutual suffering from mental illness, her retreat from the spotlight, trying to make themselves fit into each other’s lives, the attempts to play grown up, the intrusion of fame/celebrity, the breaks, the insinuation of infidelity, the gossip, the maybe allusion to a certain life event, the pulling away from each other, the prying eyes all around hunting for all the details…

my problem w the TTPD roll out so far is that its using the sort of aesthetics related to academia (specifically dark academia) without seemingly diving deeper into what it really means? maybe its just the marketing and shes doing like a bait & switch but i would hope that she, out of all the people, would understand the irony contained in the self declared literary importance that comes with the imagery of quill pens, leathers and books she's putting up all over the place - how all these props are bereft of meaning and emotion, they are just pompous for the sake of it

when she announced the title, i thought this album would be an antithesis to folkmore, i guessed that she would use it to point out that all this old english writer in a cabin stick is exactly that - a costume. i saw it as a triple entendre: the album literally represent the tortured poets department, the one she runs because she's the master in sad girl lyricism; but also that the tortured poet, itself, is departing - and as such the tortured poet could mean both her Muse™ and also Taylor's own persona that she built up over the past few years

coming back to this in light of recent discussions on dev interviews and the ultimania to say that I think it's oh so funny that the same people who are so adamant that Aerith needs to stay dead because the theme of loss is the heart of the franchise are the same ones who are extremely against the idea of Cloud dying

I'm honestly just not sure if the main theme of the FF7 remake trilogy is loss anymore. Of the original? Yes, by a mile. I would say it's even the overarching theme in the compilation too, but fate, destiny and choice (promises, even) seem to be the new thematic focus of the story.
