Critical and Contextual Awareness
Personal Identity is the concept you develop about yourself over your life. This might include things you have no control over like where you grow up. Your personal identity is shaped by different aspect such as family, culture, friends, interests and your environment.
Artists often explore the characteristics that determine our personal and social identity. They construct a sense of who we are as individuals in society. They question stereotypes and conventions while exploring genders, sexuality and race.
What situations you would need to prove your legal identity is if you are buy alcohol, in an airport, going to the bank, going on a night out.

These photos were taken in the style of Keiichiro Kinoshita. I used the same framing style where she used where she held the phone in front of the subject so you could see the subject through the phone camera. I liked this idea because it was creative and also different to other photos i have taken

File management is important because you should always know where all your work and photos are and also to keep your work organised so that it is quick and easy to find. You should always keep your images backed up in at least 2 different places such as an external hard drive. The difference between Raw and Jpeg is that raw has a higher quality then jpeg but raw has large files and can only be opened with certain software’s where as jpeg has smaller file sizes so it opens with everything. Raw is better when it comes to editing images as Raw every bit of photo information captured by the camera sensor is saved with raw so you can bring out hidden details and shadows where as Jpeg can not do that. We organised our images in bridge by firstly rating and rejecting our photos. We rejected the photos we didn’t like, gave 5 stars to the photos we did like and gave 3 stars to the images we thought could have potential. We then made 4 different folders, Select, Edited, Web and Product. We put the photos we had selected to edit in the select folder then once we had edited them we put them into the edited folder so we knew where all the photos we needed were.

Still life. The object photographed represents something. The image normally fills the frame and is the only thing you focus on and is of a still object. We edited the images in Photoshop by changing the contrast and brightness. We also edited the background by making sure we covered up and little marks that were on the back drop so that it was all white.

Split lighting is one of the 5 basic lighting set up used in studio portrait photography.  Split Lighting at its most basic level is constructed with a single  light source placed 90 degrees offset from the subject and a bit higher than eye level, lighting one half of the face, and leaving the other in shadow.
Loop lighting is an essential lighting technique for  portrait photographers. It is easy to create with just a single light source. A loop lighting pattern is created by using a light source positioned just to the side and pointed down towards the subject.

We went to the Nottingham Contemporary Gallery to take photos of the exhibition to produce photographs to be used as promotional material for the exhibition. Before we went to the Contemporary, we looked at some examples of work by some of the artists featured in the exhibition. The work was by Trix and Robert Hunssmann.
My first image is an image of a chair with LED light legs. For this image I changed the exposure too -1 3/4. I also had my ISO at 1600, aperture at f.16 and shutter speed at 1/500. When I edited this image in Photoshop I put the brightness on -15 so that the legs of the chair stood out more. I also changed the contrast to 34 so it helped get a better composition overall.
In my second image I was looking a large piece of fabric that had been placed in this J shape. I liked the way this looked as it looked very artsy. I also used an ISO of 1600 and a shutter speed of 1/15 s well as an aperture of f4.0. I also shot all my photos in Tv (shutter priority).
In my third image I was looking at a long cuboid with square mirrors all down it in different sizes. I liked the way this looked as the artist has mad the mirrors look like this dented into the wood when they are actually on the surface. For this photo I changed my ISO to 800 and my shutter speed to 1/60.
The next photo was a photo of a women who was dancing with some jeans. The video that was playing was being played on the wall on a projector. I took this photo using a tripod to be able to make sure I didn't shake the camera and I used an aperture of f5.6.

One Point Perspective For this task we looked at ‘engaging the world’ and looking at a photo from one perspective. We looked at the work of the photographer ‘Stanley Kubrick’ In the first image I tired to make the image look like it was going on forever and the architecture of the building allowed me to do this. I used an aperture on f.14 and a shutter speed of 1/30. After i took this photo I edited it on photo and cropped the image to 16:9 like Kubrick does. I also increased the brightness because my image was slightly too dark and changed the contrast to 20 as well.
I did the same for my other photos. My aperture was 1/125 in both my other images but I changed the brightness slightly in the second image because my image was too bright. For the last image I used lots of people so it made the space look bigger.

Street Photography
This task was to do with Documentary photography and photojournalism. In lesson we looked at different photos from over the years to see how documentary and photojournalism has developed and the difference between the two.
Many documentary photography and photojournalism use black and white photography so that it why i took my photos in black and white.
For some of these photos i took them looking down on people to show the movement and everyday life of the people in the photos. I used an aperture of 3.5 and a shutter speed of 1/60 and i took some with an aperture of 4.5 and a shutter speed of 1/80.
I took some zoomed photos of peoples faces to get there emotions in there faces. I used a 200mm zoom lens so i could fully zoom into there faces. I also took these photos in black and white so they blinked with my photojournalism theme.

A narrative is the the story behind a photograph. To find out the narrative you ask the questions who, what, when and where. The narrative of an image helps us understand why the photography was taken and what the photographers intentions are.
The first image was taken by David Levinthal. In this image Levinthal uses different techniques to help have a narrative. He used little figures and doesn’t focus of there faces but instead focuses on what they are doing. He used little figures to tell a story of history without use focusing on there faces but what they are doing and there surroundings. David Levinthal makes the images look real by using dramatic lighting and a macro lens for that there is selects focus.
In Mariel Claytons photo it has a different narrative behind it. She also uses dolls but the narrative behind her images are very different. She uses Barbie dolls to show that the stereotypical life barbi is said to live is not always what happens. Also in the images she doesn’t make it clear what has happened so it leaves the viewer to ask the question of what has happened, why has it happened, what did it happen, and who does the doll represent.

Week Ome shutter speed task (accidentally deleted)
for this task we had to used the shutter priority and tried different shutter speeds like 1/500, 1/30, 1/4, 1” and 5”. We also tried different techniques like panning to make the images creative. Some of the images we took came out either too white or too black because they were not correctly exposed so they took a few tries before getting good images. For some of the shutter speeds we used a tripod so that we didn’t shake the camera and make the whole photo blurry.

context is finding meaning within a photo. Questions you ask to help understand context in a photo is where, when, what, who and why. In this image the where is a ship, currently in england traveling to and from america. The when is 1907 and the what is 20th century immigration with the poorer people on the lower deck. Alfred Stieglitz who took this photo, took it because he was compelled by the people below and he saw many geometric shapes in the architecture.
To help us find this photo on goodie using the context we had talked about we tried typing different suggestions into google using the where, when, what and why.
Primary research is where you get your research and facts by talking to a person and second hand research is where you look online or in a book after someone has written the research down for you too find. For this exercise we used primary research to begin with to try and find the image our selfs using what we thought the image was about and then once we knew the name of the ship, we used secondary research to find out more information.

TEXTURE
For these images I used the formal element texture. For these images I took a close photo of a tree branch because of the rough texture. I also took a photo of a door because the bark had a rough and cool texture. I liked the way the roughness looked in my images.

COLOUR
I used the formal element colour as my theme for these images. I took photos of the neon sign because it had a range of different colours and it was quiet bright so I liked the way it looked. I also took a photo of the street graffiti because it had a large variety of different patterns and colours because  they are all unique and look different to each other.

Passing Of Time.
For these images I changed my shutter speed to 1″ so that I was able to get the movement of people as they walked past. I made it look like that so it looked like it there was lots of people passing in the time of the shutter speed.
Next time I will take it in a busier place and on a longer shutter speed to it catches more movement.

Motherly Love.
For this photo I took a photo of a mother with her two children and I took this at market square. I should of checked my aperture and exposure because my image was exposed to too much light so it doesn't look good. Next time to take a better image I will check all my settings first so I know that my images with be correctly exposed.
