Hi Ad! I'm Margot Robbie. Welcome to the new LuckyChap offices in Los Angeles CA.
Margot Robbie opened the doors of LuckyChap Entertainment's new headquarters to Architectural Digest magazine and showed all the work done with interior designer Scarlett Hessian to make every corner look like the production company's co-founders. Find out more:
Margot Robbie doesn’t consider herself an “office person,” but the design of LuckyChap’s new Los Angeles headquarters makes it hard to stay away. “I don’t like sitting in one place for too long, it makes me fidgety,” she admits. “So even though my office is beautiful, and it is incredibly beautiful, I spend a lot more time in there than I thought I would.” Margot, Ryan Gosling (Margot’s husband) and Josey McNamara — co-founders of the production company behind I, Tonya, Saltburn, Barbie and the upcoming Netflix comedy-drama Sirens — have never been drawn to the typical office model. “We’ve always been averse to meeting rooms,” McNamara says, noting that LuckyChap’s first headquarters was nothing more than a kitchen counter in a London apartment. Ten years and three relocations later, the trio knew exactly what they didn’t want in their new space: a conventional, clichéd studio space with movie posters on the walls. “We wanted it to be a creative space, not a curriculum,” says Gosling. So they called on Scarlett Hessian, a longtime friend and collaborator, to help them transform a 5,000-square-foot former fish store. “When they first showed me the building, I was a little scared, to be honest,” the interior designer says. Now, despite the modest exterior (the neon sign still glows outside, beckoning passersby), the interior tells a different story: one that’s layered, textured, and even a little cinematic. With high vaulted ceilings and an airy mezzanine, Hessian saw the architecture as a starting point. “We decided to go with a midcentury style and bring in a mix of European pieces to give it personality,” she says. The result is what Ackerley calls “a homey feel.” The oak-paneled kitchen, which serves as a communal space, feels more like a home kitchen, where the team often makes breakfast and gathers for lunch. The coffee station, with a mirrored panel and espresso machine, is such a standout that McNamara admits to driving to the office on weekends just to make a cup. “That’s how good the machine is,” he laughs. And while the branding isn’t overtly displayed, there are subtle nods to LuckyChap’s films throughout. A set of chairs was salvaged from the Barbie set and reupholstered for everyday use. “These are the exact chairs from the Mattel meeting scene with Will Ferrell,” says Ackerley. There’s also a blush-colored conference table (a subtle nod to the blockbuster) and a coffee table collection of the scripts for the company’s biggest hits. The same low-key approach extends to the company’s recognitions. “They didn’t want any of the awards on display,” says Hessian. “So I hid them all over the bookshelves. You might stumble upon a BAFTA.” McNamara recently found a Golden Globe in the press room.
LuckyChap Entertainment:

For the individual offices, Hessian tailored each one to the person using them. Robbie’s, for example, has multiple work zones. “She’s a hard worker,” Hessian explains. In addition to a two-seater desk, there’s also a laptop table that slides out into a plush sofa, all atop wall-to-wall carpeting for a noise-dampening finish.
Even with all this attention to detail, Robbie often finds herself heading outdoors: “I’m not really an indoor person. So if I’m reading scripts, having lunch or even in a meeting, I’ll go out on the terrace.” The sun-drenched terrace—laden with butterfly-attracting plants, vintage-style vases and red-accented C&C Milano pillows—is just one of many inviting spaces that feel far from corporate.
“We’re living in a work-from-home culture,” says Ackerley. “But no one here works from home by choice. People want to come to the office, and we’re proud of that.” It’s quite an evolution from the kitchen counter where LuckyChap started.

I’m thinking, ‘You just hit Leonardo DiCaprio in the face. They’re going to arrest you because that’s assault. You’re definitely never going to work again, that’s for sure.’ And then all of a sudden Marty and Leo just burst out laughing. Marty says, “That was great!” Leo’s like, “Hit me again!”

‘Everything happens for a reason’ is something that we have to tell ourselves all the time, because it’s good to have the idea that something good is around the corner. – Margot Robbie

You men, with your bad suits and your pumiced hair, you’re utterly predictable. I reckon to the point of carelessness. I’m the switchblade in the garters, the stiletto in the stilettos. I’m the surprise they never see coming. Who says mystery’s a lost art? Terminal (2018) dir. Vaughn Stein
