Notice the emphasis on WHENEVER you fast and IF you sin. Somehow in our culture fasting has become optional and sin an absolute. Fasting should be a huge part of the Christian walk as it denies the flesh, therefore allowing us to walk in the Spirit more fully. Up until a few years ago, I saw myself as just a sinner saved by grace. I just accepted that I would always sin, always mess up. Yet the Bible makes it clear that it is possible to not sin. This is not commonly taught. Most Christians see it as something to strive for but not as an attainable goal in this life. I believe it is possible, though not in our own strength. Also, not by focusing on our sin and trying to change it. But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).
